Al Murray - Time Gentlemen Please - Series 1  (2000)

I was a big fan of this show when it was on Sky.
Al Murray is a Genius at stating what popular culture is about whilst making fun of our own Englishness.

The stereo type characters are wonderful and there are versions of them in every pub in the country. Any one who doesn't find this funny doesn't drink in a real English Pub.
I can't wait for the rest of the series. Would recommend this to any one who is normal.

If you like Al Murray, stereotypes, xenophobia and catch phrases then this is for you. Al Murray’s pub landlord persona works much better when he has someone else to share his distorted view of the world, so if you loved him in stand-up try this it’s much better.

A nicely written comedy that has the guts to be non-PC at times, like good old British comedy used to be! A must for any Al Murray fan, and any true Brit who understands that anything can be poked at in the name of humour. Hopefully the rest of the series will be released soon.

Al Murray is one of the funniest people i have ever seen. He knowsthat big secret of British comedy make fun of the French!!. This series made be laugh soo hard i nearly fell of my sofa it is soooo funny

I felt compelled to write a review of this series as I want to warn other Al Murray fans to avoid this. I'm amazed to find that Richard Herring was the main writer of this as he's normally very good too. I gave it a fair chance (I watched two full episodes before giving up) but this was genuinely painful. The jokes are sub-'Terry and June' standard and, other than that, it is just padded out with pointless swearing and gags from Al Murray's stand-up shows. Pathetic.

this was nowhere near as good as his stand ups or happy hour don't get me wrong i'm normally an Al murray fan but this was a let down

Al Murray is likeable as ever but he is just regurgitating the same tired material in nearly every episode of this sit com. After a while it gets a bit boring and only offers a few laughs throughout the whole tape. Add to this Julia Sawalha's irritating faux australian accent and apparent rampant sexuality and phil daniels poor performance with the only laughs based around his continual farting and you get a really mediocre comedy. Its watcheable if you've nothing better to do but i dont reccommend it!

I rented this after enjoying the recent Al Murray's Happy Hour on ITV, but was very disappointed. There were one or two good gags: I might have enjoyed this more if I'd seen it before Happy Hour. I think Al Murray works better as a stand-up performing to a live studio audience: you get the feeling the audience is having a good time, and when the guests are going along with the joke, it all adds up to the kind of show you wish you were seeing live. If you watch Time, Gentlemen, THEN Happy Hour, you will find Happy Hour repetitive, as Al uses the same catchphrases in both. Of the two, skip Time.., and choose the latter, as it works better.

I'm a big fan of Al Murray's stand up,so was eager to see this.I could'nt have been more dissapointed.Pure Rubbish

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to sit through a partial recycling of Murray's stand-up material interspersed with the sound of chronic flatulence. Julia Sawalha and Rebecca Front are wasted in this, while the other actors put on the all too familiar look-at-me-I'm-in-a-sitcom face that makes the classic comedies stand out as exceptional. Better to re-rent Murray reciting 'Tvinkle, tvinkle, liddle schtaaar!'.
