Simpsons, The - Season 1  (1989)

If, like me you firmly believe The Simpsons can be watched and re-watched without losing anything, you'll love this collection.
The Simpsons does get even better with later seasons, but this was a great place to start from!
Classic moments such as Bart at genius school, Lisa singing the Blues and Homer mistaken for Bigfoot all came from this season.

DVD menus are laid out logcally with episode titles on the main menu and options to select scenes or play whole episode etc. on the next level.
All pretty standard and caused me no problems.

Only 4 stars because the 5 must be reserved for later seasons!

These discs are a good transfer and both sound and picture are very good. But the menu structure is beyond belief, it is very difficult to navigate these discs. As regards the programme.... either you like the Simpsons or you don't. I do. A lot!

A bit of a mixed bag with some great early episodes and a few rather mediocre ones.

It's interesting to see how it all started but most of the early episodes are quite sedate in comparison to the later series.

This is where it all began 15 years ago, and yes the animation may look pretty bad, but there's no deyning that even then we were viewing something special. The only real shame is that there are only 13 episodes, but back when they were made no one knew what an amazing rite of passage we were about to embark on and what it was planning to turn into, but who cares there are 350+ episodes beyond this series, so you can look forward to that. hell if your even reading this, go and buy it, you know it makes snese.

A classic family fun entertainment especially for the grown ups. The Simpson’s may have be around 15 years old but you can never grow tired of this cartoon institution, although not as smooth ,slick and funny as recent seasons this still is a must see for any Simpson fan!

Very funny, good entertaining fun for everyone with classic episodes that need to be watched by all to appreciate the genius that is 'The Simpsons'.

Although it looks odd with the old animation, it's classic simpsons. Any simpsons fan will love it. Its good to see how it all began and how much it has advanced.

Only a few episodes to sample on this final disc but some pretty good ones. There are some interesting Special Features including a look at the inception of America's alternative first family.

The Simpsons incredible success is testiment to how clever the producers of the series actually were in the creation of this gem. Family life, zany characters, soap drama all with a twist. It's hard to pin point whats so likeable and watchable about the simpsons, the episodes, music videos and merchandise that it spawned showed it definetly touched a nerve somewhere! Great family entertainment.

what a pleasure to watch! the first ever season and what memories . if you like me have not watched the simpsons for years then i recommend starting all over again. you will forget how much you laughed at this!

All of the simpsons on season 1 are excellent and i would give them 10/10 and i hope the second season will be like that as well.

The Simpsons from the first time i saw them has always been a favourite of mine, timeless and classic this is one cartoon series you cannot afford to miss out on.

The Simpsons has to be the most consistently excellent show on TV. There's barely a weak episode, and some of them reach peaks that border on the genius. Outstanding entertainment!

What another great simpson season. many episodes seen before but ya can watch them time and time again. Never getting bored of them. Just so great but only to a simpsons fanatic. A must for anyone who missed some of the first simpsons great. Even though watched season 1 after all the other seasons.

I got this DVD season 1 shortly after it came out cos i originally had all these episodes on tape but i played them to death that much i wore the tape out but i still feel this DVD will only apeal to those old enough to remember all the early 90's simpsons hype this holds so many memories and its still smashing to watch . Who says the best things don't come from america ?

The First 13 episodes of this fantastic series is well lived up to, and displays some of the great Simpson storylines, scenes, characters, and famous lines throughout! Beware of the animation, and sounds of some of the characters, and the opening title - as this was their first series they were newly fangled, and quite frankly ' didn't know what they were doing'! - 'Al Jean, Executive Producer'. The commentary is laid back and at times interesting, but yet again this was their first DVD and they aren't half as entertaining and factual as the other DVD commentaries. A great 3 1/2 hours watch, and nether the less great for all ages, and newcomers to the series.

The Crepes Of Wrath : Bart goes on a student exchange to France and ends up as forced labour. Krusty Gets Busted : Krusty gets framed for robbery by his trusty side-kick Sideshow Bob. Some Enchanted Evening : Homer and Marge go out for a romantic evening and hire the babysitter from hell.

Season 1 Disc 2 contains 5 episodes ..... Moaning Lisa : Lisa comes over all melancholy and is consoled by Bleeding Gums Murphy ..... Call Of The Simpsons : Homer buys a mobile caravan and takes the family for a trip into the countryside where he is Mistaken for Bigfoot ..... The Telltale Head : Bart hacks the head off the statue of the towns founding father, Jebediah Springfield, and almost gets linched ..... Life On the Fastlane : After receiving a bowling ball for her birthday from Homer, Marge decides to take up bowling and gets bowled over ..... Homers Night Out : Bart gets a spy camera and catches Homer on a boys night out being the life and sole of the party with an exotic belly dancer ..... Brilliant!

Firstly I'd just like to say how happy i am to be writing the first review, Yay me! Secondly, what can I possibly say about the Simpsons that people don't already know, so hilarious, amazing characters, funny storylines and loads more. If you don't know about the simpsons already then watch them, they're Grrreat!

By far the best cartoon series to come out of the US in a long time. Barts antics make it a pleasure to watch, and Homer, well what can one say. Well worth a watch

Classic comedy show. First season where it all started has to be the best

Absolutely the best animated programme in the world. Rated 4 stars as i agree with other reviwers, 5 starts must be saved for the later episodes. Great to see the first series on DVD. No loss in quality or sound and the menus are easy to navigate. Well recomended to rent or buy!

the simpsons season 1 was brilliantly funny but the qulity of the disk was bad. It just kept skipping back to the first scene

I love the simpsons and my daughter who is nearly three loves the simpsons but don't like the menu as she liked to watch each disk to go bed but only plays one episode at a time but no worries for me now as she goes to bed earlier and they r on sky one great

Good mix of episodes on this disc. Makes you relaise how long the simpsons have actually been going, by how much they have changed over the past years. I hope the next disc is just as good if not better!... I certainly will NOT be disappointed.

A must for Simpson fans of any age..............

The first ever Simpsons episodes. It's great to see how it all started, from long before I got hooked. The animation is a bit different from nowadays, but given the vintage I was surprised how consistent it was with more modern episodes. One thing that definitely hasn't changed is the spot-on humour - a joy, and worth watching at least twice each!

No wonder they can't seem to stop making more episodes. Everyone loves Simpsons, if you haven't watched any of the episodes and you like cartoon series like Futurama, American dad, Family Guy then you'll love the simpsons, wonderful first series

The first season of one of the best known shows in the world. 13 episodes of the first season of the simpsons, telling the tales of Homer,Marge,Bart ,Lisa and Maggie and their lives in the town of springfield The simpsons is well animated and the stories are amusing and well written, i personally enjoy futurama more but still have enjoyed watching these episodes from the very beginning.I think we are all glad that we dont know anyone like Homer but we all still watch for him to say D'oh!!!!!!!

Funny cartoons, Typical American humor, but still good to watch and have a laugh.

The Simpsons in their usual plenty to laugh at form. Especially loved the episode where Homer loses his Christmas bonus and takes a second job as a department store Santa. If you ever wondered where their dog got it's name "Santa's little helper" you will find out if you watch this.

teenagers seem to watch this over and over and over...They still laugh at the same things in the same episodes so it must be good.

As this is the first in a run of approx 14years and over 300 episodes, these originals are just as funny now as they where when they shot "The Simpsons" into the world spotlight, dragging their creator Mat Groenig with them. The yellow "working class" family keep you laughing throughout as they have continued to do over the past 14 years or so. Also for those very few of you who still think that this is a cartoon for kids, "you need to watch" you will soon realise this series is for everyone. Simply brilliant.

I personally never tire of the Simpsons. If you are a fan, then this a must.

They don't always play the Simpsons on TV in the right order.

You need to watch this first disc to find out the beginnings of some of the characters. Santa's little helper for example.

They just can't go wrong can they? You can just watch them over and over. The whole family can love them.

Even though the kids don't get all the jokes which is a good thing, they can love Bart, Lisa and Maggie while the adults are crying with laughter at the antics of the lovable Homer. Keep them coming.

The only negative thing i'll say, and it's only a tiny thing, is that the animation looks a bit dated compared to the more recent simpsons, it's great to watch the first ever episodes to meet all the characters again and to see how the family aqquired their pets! can't wait for the next in the series to arrive now!

I've never seen The Simpsons in order. Although the first disc is ok, it pales in comparison to later episodes. Nice to watch though!
