Terminator 2 - Judgment Day  (1991)

Arguably the best film of the trilogy. Arnold Schwarzenegger is sublime. In the year 2029, a computer called Skynet is fighting against a human resistance, after having nearly destroyed the rest of humanity in 1997. Skynet has found a way to send some of it's warriors, called Terminators, back in time. This is the story of the Terminator sent to kill the resistance leader in 1995, while he is still a child. The resistance sends a reprogrammed Terminator back to 1995 to protect the young man. The question is, can they survive against the new prototype liquid metal Terminator while preventing the creation of Skynet?

T2 as it is affectionately referred to on merchandising is breathtaking in its apocalyptic vision of the machine vs. human future. The film is accompanied by a powerful score by Brad Fiedal that will have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. Linda Hamilton?s acting, when she spots Arnie for the first time, is one of those moments that will etch in your mind for a long time.

Like Aliens did after Alien, the second Terminator film went bigger, faster, louder and (arguably) better.
The special effects were groundbreaking in their day. The atmospheric score accurately captures the feeling of menace and impending doom.
Also, like Aliens, there is a vein of humour running through the movie - especially sending up certain aspects of the first film. And whatever you say about the acting talents of 'Arnie' he is perfectly suited to playing the Terminator.
The often under-rated Linda Hamilton returns to portrays just the right amount of strength and vulnerability as Sarah Connor: the woman who has the weight of the world's future on her shoulders, and who must balance her love for her son with the need to prepare him for his destiny as a leader against the machines.
And this is what really makes this film so great - the fact that it is more than an effects laden excuse for CGI magic. It's about the drama of being human: the struggle of providing a decent future for your children. It is also a coming of age drama; as the young John Connor grows up and faces his destiny as the saviour of the human race.
The film wouldn't be nearly as interesting or loved if it wasn't for these extra, human, dramatic features. Special effects and action set pieces just don't work in isolation without a decent story behind them - as we have seen in far too many movies.
This modern classic is a must for any film watcher who likes a strong story as well as mind blowing action.

13 years and countless viewings, i can still watch the movie again. The sfx is simply outstanding and can hold ones imagination even today. A classic.

It is not possible to review this title. I couldn't start the actual film. Nothing but trailers and various people discussing how it was made. Useless.

This video just talks about how great the film is and how difficult it was etc. etc. but you are left non the wiser about how it was made than before you watched it.

This movie is so awesome! Cutting edge graphics for the early 90's teamed with excellent leads from Arnie, Linda Hamilton and Robert Patrick still make this my favourite movie of all time. It was the video I wasn't allowed to watch (since I was 9 when I saw it), but that didn't stop me! I'm really glad I defied my parents! The story is full of twists and turns, coupled with amazing CGI effects that were groundbreaking at the time of release. Robert Patrick sends shivers down me as the killer T-1000. The movie Arnie will always be remembered for, for decades to come.

This is by far the best of the Terminator trilogy. Following on from the first film, John Connor is now a teenager and in care whilst his mother has been placed in a secure unit. This time Arnie is the good guy and a new Terminator is sent to kill John Connor. Great special effects and gripping storyline, you actually begin to care about the Terminator (Arnie of course!).

Although i always swore by the original film, on second viewing this is a far superior effort,obvious budgetary considerations are a factor when comparing the two.A ground breaking effects film that is a high octane roller coaster from start to finish.My only gripe is the contrived ending with Arnie having to be lowered into the smelt... and that thumbs up at the very end was a bit of a toe curler.A great film though that stands up well if you haven't seen it for a few years like me.Terminator 3 was always going to struggle to match this film.

When the film was released in 1991, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" was the crowning achievement in special effects. At the time, Schwarzenegger was the top drawing action star in Hollywood. Cameron had shown his masterful touch with his awe-inspiring genre defining "Aliens" and the impressive "The Abyss". The record budget and then-draw dropping effects, mixed with a successful franchise base in 1984's The Terminator paved the way for "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" to quickly become one of the most successful sequels of all time

One of the few sequels ever made to be better than the original it was based on. Aliens is the obvious film and Judgement Day is every bit as good. More action and CGI based than the original Terminator it's amazing that it actually is an improvement in almost every way (given that this is normally what ruins damn near every sequel we see released today). Arnie in his perfect role supported by an excellent Hamilton and Furlong (if only they used him in T3!). This film is the bench mark for every modern action film there is, the ultimate in cool, arguably the most enjoyable film ever made.

Tipping the scales at a reputed $100 million dollars, this was allegedly the most expensive movie ever made. The original 1984 film cost one-twelfth as much, but obviously the nice people at Carolco did their sums right because this sequel hauled in more than the gross of the first picture, in its first two days of release in America. With James Cameron needing to re-establish himself commercially after the semi-flop of The Abyss, and Big Arnie revisiting the role that still stands as his best, there was obviously a lot of pressure on this one to deliver the goods, and it certainly does. No-one can walk out of this and say they didn't see the whole hundred mil up there on the screen in exploding vehicles, wrecked buildings, monster effects and sheer sweaty action. It opens with an intriguing re-run of the first movie's premise as a gigantic cyborg (Schwarzenegger) and a slimline ordinary joe (Patrick) are zapped back from the future, this time to seek out ten-year-old John Connor (Edward Furlong), the son of the heroine (Hamilton) of The Terminator, and struggle over his life, with the balance of a future that may or not be ruined by a cataclysmic war between man and machines up for grabs in the titanic struggle. However, the twist is that Patrick, a fresh-faced type who impersonates a cop, is the deadly mechanical baddie, and Arnie, in biker leathers and mean shades, has been reprogrammed to protect the brat and his mom and, in between the extensive carnage, gets to reveal that biomechanical killing machines from the future can have their sensitive sides. While the rewriting of Arnie's persona smacks of commercial cop-out, a sop to the Kindergarten Cop audience, this strategy really pays off when it comes to Patrick's villain, who is constructed from a liquid metal that can shape itself into anything it wants and also pull itself back together if blasted apart. A high-tech version of the Blob, utilising some of the most astonishing and surreal effects ever filmed, Patrick's T-1000 stands as one of the great monsters of the cinema. Like all Cameron movies, this shuffles its character stuff out of the way in the first two-thirds, and then delivers a succession of untoppable climaxes that are routinely out-awesomed by the next set-piece. Because it is a sequel, it's less satisfying than the more idea-driven original, but this is still top-flight kick-ass entertainment, and firepower fans will be in Heaven when Arnie does his shotgun twirl. When i went to see this film in 1991 i had a lot on my mind.just married,4 week old daughter,working all the hours and getting no sleep.then T2 woke me up.
right from the first bar of that thumping music to final bar at the end of the credits this film had me glued to the screen.
the SFX were incredibly innovative and even the script was great and not full of gobbledigook.
Non stop action and entertainment is what this film is about and it delivers on every level possible
my top ten list for 10years and this still is at the top.

Set 8 years after the events of 1984's 'The Terminator' this time James Cameron creates another successful blockbuster this time with the return of a complex, mind bending science fiction plot line & action, with appropriate blood & gore and special effects that may have never been bettered for it's ambition & quantity! James Cameron is one of my favourite directors and this film is pretty darn fantastic, so why 4 stars? i'm not sure, it's brilliant, better change that to 5 stars!

It isn't very often the follow up even matches the original but on this occasion I think the second one is better than the first. The Special effects are fantastic & the action and plot of the film as good as ever!!

Arguably the best of the franchise, benefitting from a well-deployed $100 million budget, this breathless chase film brings Arnie's Terminator back from the future to this time protect the leader of the human rebel force as a boy. That he's pitted against an upgraded version of himself - a model comprised of shapeshifting liquid metal - really ups the ante on the action front. With its relentless pace, committed performances and jaw-dropping special effects, this is pretty much the template of what an all-out action movie should be.

All these years later (could it really have been 1991?) this film is still up there! By far the best Terminator film. Even though the effects are dampened on DVD it is worth renting.

Its one of these few films you see that when you leave the cinama you still feel totally amazed for a few days as if you have just seen something exterordinary, and thats what it is. Still looks better than most films these days.

This film had a huge effect on me when I first watched it. I then watched it again and again and again and I still watch it a couple of times a year now. So much so it inspired me to create Terminator-3.co.uk (now offline) which I ran for a year and half (the website went on to become hugely popular and I got to go to the T3 premier). It's a shame T3 didn't match the standards of T2 but I guess, to a certain degree, that was expected due to the high quality of T2. T2 will always go down as one of my favourite films ever. Rent it and buy it - it's a worthy film for your collection.

Amazingly had never seen either 1 or 2, thoroughly enjoyed. Well balanced story and action, really got into it.

This film just never seems to become boring. I have lost count how many times I have watched and still enjoyed. For a 1991 film the effects are still impressive. If have never seen any Terminator films then watch T1 and T2 before you watch T3. Terminator 3 is watchable, but disapointing.

Terminator 2, Nearly 10 years have passed since Sarah Connor was targeted for termination by a cyborg from the future. Now her son, John, the future leader of the resistance, is the target for a newer, more deadly terminator. Once again, the resistance has managed to send a protector back to attempt to save John and his mother Sarah. It could get confusing as Arnie’s hear again but this time to protect John and Sarah. Totally awesome. Well Worth the rental to see it again.

The first Terminator was pretty good at the time that I first watched it. Looking at it now, I am struck by it's 80's cheap plasticness. As far as the third Terminator movie goes, well I saw it, then forgot it. T2 however, should be given a Best Sequel Award if there is such a thing! Lynda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor--who, in the first film, is a rather helpless and ordinary girl who simply happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but in this one, is a tough, smart, no-nonsense 'soldier' with a perfect physique (I am sooo envious). Determined, adaptable, and mostly capable, she will stop at nothing to protect her son John from the big, bad, terrifying Terminator. Arnold Shwarzenegger also returns as said terminator, and is very cool of course. Edward Furlong, who plays son John gives amazingly good performance for an amateur plucked from the street for this role. Although the film waxes mushily sentimental at times, it never fails to provide fun (if you don't think about the implausibility of it all too much) action packed entertainment.

this movie is quality entertainment, its probably the best movie made during the 20th century. the role of terminator was made for Arnie no one else can live up to his performance. if u aint seen this u aint seen nothing.

In a way you can almost put this film in the same bracket as Godfather part ll As it's a sequel that is as good as the original. James Cameron has a larger budget with this film and uses it to the max with great special effects that still look good today. Highly recommended.

This has got to be one of the best sci-fi films of all time. Brilliant film, full of action, I can watch it time and time again and probably will.

Rarely does the sequel succeed the original in terms of - well, just about everything. The story is tighter, the effects are grander, the runtime is longer, the script is better - yep, T2 should always be remembered as a pinicle of the genre. What's best is that if you haven't seen it for a while, now's a great time as Terminator has re-exploded into our landscapes; a new series and another film to come, this is the return of the Terminator big time. This ultimate edition reinserts 15 minutes of footage from the director's cut and disc 2 features further another two deleted scenes, one in which Sarah and John have grown old peacefully in non-Apocalypse world. I don't think there will ever be a better film given a better DVD release!

This one certainly deserves a place in a list of all time greats. The action, special effects and storyline are gripping from start to finish and the fluidity with which the whole thing develops is simply outstanding. A joy to watch.

This Is such an amazing film. Now Arnie's a goodie which is much cooler because the baddie is so cool. He shape shifts! But I'm not saying anything else, just watch the film. A good father-son film.

Arguably the best of the series, though in watching them all together, The Terminator is ultimately better for sake of its simplicity and T2's occasional mistakes. The plot is the same; SkyNet tries again and sends a new, more terrible Terminator, the T-1000 back through time, only this time young John Connor is the target. The resistance sends a new guardian, a reprogrammed Terminator, to protect him. This film undoubtedly catapulted Arnie's career. While the narrative of the once merciless, butchering machine now being a protector is greatly entertaining, the public took to Arnie's Terminator being the good guy too far. (see Terminator 3) The film is incredible and won many awards for ground-breaking special effects from ILM. I was obsessed with it for a long time. While he is quipping immortal one-liners, Arnie still plays the Terminator well, walking the cliche line of a machine learning what it is to be human. But it is the action sequences that make this film; from Arnie reloading a shotgun by flipping it around in one hand, while riding a motorbike, to the finale at the steel mill. One of the greatest action films ever made? Without doubt.

Hey hey hey, what they don't tell you above and what's not even mentioned on the disc, is that this is actually the special edition version!!! What a brilliant surprise. I first got wind of it when Kyle appeared in Sarah Conner's cell. My brain - 'Hello, what the hell is going on here, is my memory not what I thought it was?' Oh no, lots of lovely extra bits, so if you've not seen it for a while, get this version and it's a real treat. If you've never seen it, this is quite simply, the best of the four.

This is probably the best sequel ever made as most of them fail. At the time was the most expensive movie ever made and the effects do pretty well even by todays standards. A reversal of roles for Scwazennegger as his Terminator plays a good guy this time. Sarah Conner played by Linda Hamilton is no longer the meek and mild lady, instead she's a rock hard bitch hardened by the futuristic hunter of 1984. Great soundtrack and a must see movie

This is without doubt the best overall Terminator film of the franchise, featuring Arnie and Linda Hamilton at their all-time best within the roles. The story is less fresh than the first one - but the film is so engrossing and never lets up in terms of action. Edward Furlong puts in a very convincing performance as John Connor (far better than he is portrayed in later films) and some of his scenes with Arnie are very funny. Another favourite performance of mine comes from Robert Patrick - who for me was the real breakthrough in this role, with the T-1000 one of the best villains to be on screen in ages. Highly Recommended film.

you all know this film, so i won't bother going into any detail of the movie content apart from mentioning that his blu-ray features the full uncut directors edition of the film. this film was made for hd, so rent/buy it now!

When I got T3 as a xmas present last year, I hadn't watched either T1 or T2 before, so I just had to rent this one and now I've become addicted to the terminator films! All 3 films have action all the way through - from beginning to end - they just get straight into the films and the SP's are great!

I have to say the best out of all three Terminator films. The special effects are amazing. No nonense - straight into the action. This is the one you remember at the Quiz nights!!!

Having not seen any of the terminators before, it was an enjoyable if not slightly cheesy film.

If you want a film with lots of bangs and reasonably straight forward then rent this!

What can be said about the terminator series. It looks so weird and out dated now with all the new technology. Still good to watch all the episodes. Wasn't to bad, personally I don't think you could beat the terminator 1.

I remember seeing this at a midnight showing when it first came out and it blew me away. The effects are the real star of the film, but the story is strong enough to keep your attention beyond the FX.

It is such a close thing between this one and the first 'Terminator' for my personal favourite. They are both classics. It is only the fact that this one has been padded out a little that nudges this into second.

T2 was the demo disc for my first home theatre system 12 years ago. I recently updated the system. The new Ultimate disc with DTS sound track is one of the demo discs again. When you look at the film now, it still looks fresh and original and cannot believe this came more than a decade ago. Perfect disc to chill out and enjoy the special effect - both sound and visual.

James Cameron never fails to deliver a mindblowing experience and T2 is no exception! Every scene is packed with intense action and the plot is ideal for a Terminator sequel. My say is that this movie portrays the realistic nature of the Judgement Day better than the other two Terminator movies.

Terminator 2 is one of my all-time favourite films and this bonus disc does very well to provide extra information.

However, the disc has one major flaw - no music video for You Could Be Mine by Gun 'n' Roses. This video was a brilliant take on the film but does not appear on the disc and is very disappointing.

A more viewer friendly sequel to the original, much darker Terminator. A great storyline and the FX still stand up to this day.

This is a fantastic DVD if a little complicated to use.

Once you figure out the menu system, there are lots of tests that let you test both your audio and video components to the fullest.

The big problem with renting this DVD is that they don't supply you with the Filters required to use some of the tests.

This was a bit disappointing as it renders parts of the DVD useless.

But overall a good piece of kit!

Now, that Terminator has been sent back again but with a different assignment: Protect John Connor. John Connor(Edward Furlong) is now about 10 years of age and must evade a new Terminator sent to kill him;The T-1000(Robert Patrick). Sarah, John, and The Terminator journey together on their quest to stop Judgement Day, with a trailing, shape-shifting Termiantor trailing from behind. This is the greatest of the Terminator trilogy. I have watched three times in the past year and have not found anything that Cameron could have improved on. The move is a masterpiece in every aspect of film. Schwarzenegger's acting might not be incredible but this is the perfect role for him. He isn't supposed to show emotion or feelings. He is a machine. The special effects are incredible beyond belief. The shape-shifting T-1000 is some of the greatest animation I have witnessed in cinema history. It absolutely blew my mind when I first experienced this visual extravaganza. Sci-fi movies can rarely be made in such way that can be looked at as works of art. This is one of the few exceptions. The prediction of judgment day with Hamilton watching a playground full of kids be burnt to the ground is an absolute brilliant portrayal of Armageddon. The theme that men will destroy themselves is also shown throughout the movie also and is even said by The Terminator' It's in your nature to destroy yourselves'. This brings the movie to a whole new level of sci-fi. Overall, Termiantor II: Judgement Day is an absolute must see classic.
