Finding Neverland  (2004)

After his latest play is a flop, JM Barrie(Johnny Depp) is struggling to find inspiration for his next effort. While writing in the park one afternoon, he meets Sylvia Davies(Kate Winslet), a widow, and her three children. He starts to spend an increasing amount of time with the family, delighting them with his imaginative games and flights of fancy. But his efforts are not appreciated by everyone, especially his social-climbing wife(Radha Mitchell) and Sylvia's tyrannical mother(Julie Christie).

Marc Forster's wonderful movie doesn't pretend to be anything like a biopic of Barrie or a true telling of how 'Peter Pan' came to be. Instead Forster and screenwriter David Magee play fast and loose with the facts, creating a witty, subtle and powerful celebration of innocence and imagination. Forster cleverly drops in little moments which will later appear in Barrie's most celebrated play, and the transitions between the reality and fantasy sequences are smoothly handled.

But it's the outstanding ensemble cast which makes 'Finding Neverland' such satisfying experience. Depp is in his element as Barrie, giving possibly his finest performance yet. An actor who has made a career from playing grotesques and oddballs, he makes a fully rounded character from Barrie and never puts a foot wrong. He's matched by the ever-excellent Winslet, who plays Sylvia as a strong-willed young woman, desperately keeping a lid on her vulnerability for the sake of her family.

Radha Mitchell, Julie Christie and Dustin Hoffman are all on fine form in their supporting roles, and Forster also gets fine performances from the young actors playing Sylvia's children. Freddie Highmore gives a hugely impressive display as Peter, the stubborn boy who will become the inspiration for Barrie's main character, and Joe Prospero, as his older brother, handles a difficult role with subtlety and skill.

'Finding Neverland' isn't a perfect film, taking one or two too many trips to invented worlds, but it's a supremely rewarding one. The emotional second half will ensure there isn't a dry eye in the house as the credits roll. A gorgeous, inspiring fairytale which is guaranteed to steal your heart.

this film is superb. The film is magical, with the world of imagination and the world of reality seemlessly intertwined. The acting is terrific, with Johnny Depp as J. M. Barrie, making a good job of a scottish accent. Kate Winslet is perfect as Sylvia, and Freddie Highmore as the little boy called Peter, who is definately a talent to be watched in the future - he also played Charlie, alongside Johnny depp, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The story itself is emotionally uplifting, tinged with some very heart - rendering moments of sadness. the music is lovely, the directing imaginative, and the scenery is stunning. The movie tells the story of how J. M. Barrie created the magnificent play 'Peter Pan', and in this film, you get to see the events, that inspired him and allowed him to free his inner child. The setting is London 1903, where we find J. M. Barrie presenting his last play, which is plain and unsatisfying. He is eager to do better, but does not have a muse, which in part is the result of the attitude of his wife Sarah. She is distant, formal, and is interested in posing as an upper class family and showing a proper behaviour, more than in sharing moments with her husband. James usually goes to the park to write while allowing his dog, a beautiful Newfoundland, to wander around. This is how he meets his muses, Sylvia (Kate Winslet) and her four boys, Michael, George, Jack, and of course - Peter. From that point forward, he starts to get involved in playing with the kids and in sharing their fantasies, without caring about what others think of this. Sylvia is a widow, and the boys have suffered greatly by the loss of their father, especially Peter. But through perseverance and kindness, James M. Barrie, starts building a beautiful relationship with them, and having an effect on their lives. Finding Neverland is a truly spellbinding story, and well worth watching.

A surprisingly good film in many ways. My expectations weren't very high, but I was rewarded with a faultlessly accented Johnny Depp in another unexpected role for someone who could easily rest on his matinee idol good looks. The child actors in this film are what makes it really special, particularly young Peter on whom Peter Pan is based. He was unnervingly adult and appropriately so. We watched it twice, the second time with our teenage daughters, who loved it. Out-takes particularly enjoyable.

Well it made me cry. Any film that can do that surely means it's stirring enough emotions for one to believe whole-heartedly in it, so for me it's a good 'un.

The bit which really did it for me was the first performace of Peter Pan in the theatre and the impromptu version in the house later on.

Great performances from Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Radha Mitchell and Dustin Hoffman and so nice to see how the story of Peter Pan came about and the magical person that James Barrie seemed to be (even though his love-life and marriage left a lot to be desired).

Not a word I would often use to describe something as it sounds a bit namby pamby but it fits this film perfectly "Beautiful".

An excellent film from beginning to end, a gentle story, great cast and imaginary writing and sets. Johnny Depp and Kate Winslett were amazing in this moving portrayal of the life of J.M Barrie and how he came across the believable childhood story of Peter Pan.

I have to admit a few man tears were rolling down my cheeks come the end, and I could've sat through it again and again, and can't wait for the DVD release. I left the cinema having found my inner child and Neverland!

Lauded by critics with a seven academy nominations which is definitely over the top. Giving us the story of how JM Barrie was inspired to write Peter Pan (I'm not sure if it's based on a true story or not) the film shows another good, understated performance by Johnny Depp and that rarity of watchable child actors. Don't expect this film to be as marvellous as it's rated, it's a solid, warm and entertaining watch but it's basic sentimentality supported by good acting. There's nothing really taxing in the film and I think where it does deserve it's plaudits is with the look and feel of the film which is better than the story itself. Good but not worth a Best Picture nomination in any year.

This really isn't my type of film. I normally prefer comedy, action and thrillers. Not to mention I normally find Kate Winslet on the wrong side of annoying. But after all the hype I thought I'd check this out, and was pleasantly surprised.

Depp is in top form. Displaying all the emotions of a very simple man with a complex life. All the child acting is of an astonishingly high standard, especially when considered along such films as Harry Potter. Winslet, Mitchell and Christie all in solid performances.

The main star here though is a very well written story. A couple of times it edges towards sentimentality, particularly towards the end, but never goes too far. Which would have been easily done with this subject matter.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film despite my early apprehension. I'd even go as far as to say I preferred it to Million Dollar Baby, which I had previously declared worthy of it's oscar win. Everybody should see this, it should touch the heart of the most emotionless individual.

Not since Haley-Joel Osment's performance in the Sixth Sense has so much hype been made about a young actor, but Freddie Highmore derserves all the accolades. A touching performance from the youngster, along with the usual high standard of acting from Depp, bring this story to life.

It took a while to get there, but the ending was touching, and heart-wrenching. Recommended.

I thought, let's watch this 'chick flick'. I'd read some reviews that said it was a paint by numbers, soppy little film.

However, I was completely enchanted by the whole thing and was sobbing with the wife by the end of it.

Must do something more manly this weekend. Where's me power tools.......

The beauty of innocence has never been more relevant, this emotionally driven biopic depicting JM Barrie’s inspirations for the heart felt story of Peter Pan will reach and touch even the most cynical members of the audience.

Undeniable and quite sensational performances by Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp make this film stand amongst the all time classics. Depps indulgent and captivating power to enforce belief into the hearts of four young boys as they cope with the slow and painful death of those closest to them make it hard to believe how he was ignored at the Oscars. With a Stella cast this character and emotionally driven masterpiece of epic qualities is able to drag us through the lows of life and show us that belief is cure for grievance of the most brutal kind.

Well ive just finished watching it! The start was a tad bit boring and confusing! The end however did turn around to be a great story! Im 17 an i probably wouldnt watch it again!I got my brother(12) to watch it and he ended up goin to bed half way threw! Both my Mom and dad thought it was a absolutley brilliant film and gave it 5 stars! so i guess this shows its for the adult generation maybe?!?!?!?

Very enjoyable film, Depp shows yet again how versatile he is, but wanting to know what happened to the 'Lost Boys' afterwards did some research on the net, which is where one finds out how sad the story is concerning all involved. No wonder it wasn't fit to do the usual 'what happened after' info as the credits rolled.

The film may have been cliche-ridden, full of childhood fantasies, of what life once was, and how with dreams and vivid imaginations, all can be re-lived in Neverland, so sugary and sweet that you'd be turned off immediately. Not so. The film was enjoyable. The acting was great. Johnny Depp was again mesmeric, proving his versatility, confirming him as one of the great characters actors of our time. Where the film fell down, I felt, was in the way it addressed other aspects of J.M. Barrie's life, aside fom his writing and childhood fantasies.

The spiralling downfall of his marriage was never explained, nor was her acceptance of his relationship with the attractive widow and her four children, who inspired Peter Pan. Marc Foster the director did state in the director's commentary that this was not the intention. I think the film would have been more-rounded had these other aspects of J.M. Barrie's character been addressed. Or maybe that's another film!

I knew I would love this film. period drama, Johnny Depp, what more is ther eto say. I even knew I would cry. but I was left delighted and a twitching stain on the floor. cried buckets. loved it, see it do not miss this or we'll send the boys round! lol

Johnny Depps scottish accent was one of the best i've ever heard an American do. It was perfect and he managed to keep it up the whole film unlike di Caprio in 'Gangs of New York' where his Irish accent wavers quite a lot. Kate Winslet was beautiful and acted well as the mother of 4 boys. The boys themselves were spectatcular and Peter was especially good. A bit weepy towards the end so have tissues ready. This film will appeal to a wide range of ages.

A warm, easy to watch film that takes the viewer on a journey back to the halcyon days of childhood. If you're interested in literature you'll like this film, as it allows a voyeuristic view into Barrie's life and the inspiration for Peter Pan. Pan fans will love the fairystory links throughout and even those who've never seen or read Peter Pan will enjoy the insight into the life of Barrie the man/child.

For me this had a bad start, the film began displaying English subtitles, I went to the main menu switched them off and started watching it again, but again it displayed English subtitles so after doing this process several times I decided I had no alternative then to watch the film with the subtitles on. So the film itself was okay, I have to say I am not a huge fan of Peter Pan or fairytale films - never been big on fantasy films. This is about a man who becomes almost obsessed with 4 children spending every day with them (odd to start with) he is a writer and basically ends up writing the Peter Pan story. The acting was good (most of it anyway) some of the kids did not quite seem all that convincing at times but on the whole pretty good. The film was nice - you know, none violant, none sex, none bad language - but it really just lacked for me in something - some grit - something to get my teeth into - something to entertain me or even excite me a little. I am afraid to say for me it was just a little bit below average - would have got 3 stars if it wasn't for those damn subtitles!

As a lifelong fan of the Peter Pan story, I may be a bit biased in this. Watching the story unfold within the films story was a real treat. The performances were really enjoyable, and although you knew the ending, it was still affecting. May start out a bit slow, but picks up nicely.

I was so impressed with the whole film. Johnny Depp, with his scottish accent and 'true' acting talent taking on the character of J M Barrie. The film is an inspiration to anyone's creativity and imagination. It actually raises the subject of Netherland - J M Barrie's interpretation rather than Walt Disneys. It sensitively shows the tragedy of losing a loved one, especially parents. The children who were casted were magnificent, particularly 'Peter' whose performance had me in tears. Kate Winslett also was perfect for the role in that she came across as motherly, caring but with a sense of fun. I did not think that Dustin Hoffmann was needed in this film, I think another actor would have been just as good. But all the same it was thoroughly entertaining. I think that the film demonstrates Mr Barrie's genius and very kind, generous nature.

This movie is a very good movie! It just touched me in many different ways. It was magical and sad and it made you realize that without magic and imagination this world would be nothing, at least nothing exciting anyway. I thought Johnny Depp was perfect for this movie; he is such a great actor and shows such great emotion in this film. He brought the movie to life and I hope to see another like it maybe even something close to a sequel. Though I’m not sure you could expand this one anymore it said it all. It was a lively extraordinary movie and I might run out of tissues but I can always get more!!

Depp is good, barring an execrable accent. Winslett of course remains the best British actress under 40, and Freddie Highmore (the child actor playing Peter) steals the show. If you take with a pinch of salt the way in which JM Barrie's Peter Pan came about, the film unfolds with pleasure as the inevitable tearjerker finale builds to a crescendo. A great way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon.

I had heard great things about this film, so one Sunday afternoon I sat down to judge and enjoy, at first I thought is this going to drag on? Do I need action and fancy effects? Well no actually, the loosely based story of J.M.Barrie with Johnny Depp at his best reminded me of what it was like to still be a child and have an imagination, Kate Winslet was fantastic (somebody give that girl an oscar for goodness sake!). Word of warning for this amazing film...get ready to cry because you will..no matter how hard you feel you are..you will cry! I did, my husband did too...in fact I cried for about half an hour after the film had finished. Enjoy and don't forget the tissues! With a performance like Mr Depp's it is no wonder they cast him as Willy Wonka in the Chocolate Factory remake.

The performances are just great, especially from Kate Winslet, not a favourite actress of mine, but blew me away in this. I won't ruin it by saying much else, but watch it with tissues close by! A truly heartfelt movie, so much attention to detail. Just lovely.

The family watched it and were enthralled from start to finish. A beautiful movie that kept you engrossed but it was also somewhat dark. The wife shed a tear and to my amazement my two teenage boys stayed with it and enjoyed it. It just goes to show that you don’t have to spend a fortune on special effects to make a great film!

I was very surprised at how good this was. It had all the signs of a film I was going to hate but I liked it! It is funny, sad and heart warming. Don’t get me wrong it’s not ground breaking at all but the quality performances and great story make it a quality viewing experience. Johnny Depp’s accent was slightly irritating at first but it got better and you could tell he really enjoyed his role.

Well worth watching.

This marvellous and exciting movie grasps the attention and hearts of children and adults alike. The on screen relationship between Depp and Winslet is charismatic and enchanting. Depp manages to capture the hearts of the children inside the story through his fabulous acting and well rounded personality. Winslet's acting never fails to impress and you are left wanting more from James Barrie and his beautiful plays.

An overall moving and inspirational piece of film!

One of the best movies I didn't go to the cinema to see. It was moving and charming at the same time. Johny Depp is brilliant at choosing scripts and I will from now on watch anything he is in on the weekend after it is released.

I didn't expect to enjoy this film as much as I did. I only rented it because a friend said it was really good and after seeing little Freddie in Charlie.... I wanted to see this.

I'm glad I did as this is a wonderful film that is beautifully acted by Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet and particularly little Freddie. Johnny pulls off a good Scottish accent and the film flows effortlessly, offering highs and lows, laughs and tears. This is one of those films that actually makes you say how wonderful it is out loud - even if you are on your own!! Thoroughly recommended.

Adults enjoyed this movie, not children. It was charming even for Mum-in-Law.

could have been so much better! there was potential, the story was told quite well and the actors were good, but the silly special effects were just not needed and were too silly.

Neverland. A nonsense, a non-existing place, a Walt Disney cartoon world where anything is possible, the downfall of Michael Jackson, failure to grow up, . . . but always a magical part of childhood and certainly a place of creativity necessary to the artist. Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, believes in Neverland ardently. This is the story of how he came to write Peter Pan. His Neverland was to the family of children whom he befriended the equivalent of The Sound of Music's 'My Favourite Things' . . . a private imaginative place to go, to which to escape the wretchednesses of life. And all the way through this very subtle film which has no major highs or lows, you are moved. Tears don't drop from your eye at any particular point, but sit fulgently on the rim throughout. (And there's no 'language' or nudity, so this is one you can recommend to the old self-confessed fuddy-duddies, or let the children watch!)

poor acting poor story line that could have been told in minutes Dustin Hoffman looked half asleep and to top it all Johny Depp 's rendition of Mrs Doubtfire did not convince me that he was playing a Scott !

Firstly, a previous reviewer said that this film takes afew too many journeys into imaginary worlds. For some, this may indeed be the case, but for myself, I found it enthralling. The camera work and excellent editing shows some real thought, even behind the imaginary playscenes. They cut between imagination and reality with surprising swiftness (usually when the shot is in Peter's Point of view, a clever device) and usually bring about some nice gentle comedy. Not the most subtle of films perhaps, but I think this story has been wonderfully portrayed, and as ever I'm thrilled with both Cate Winslet and Johnny Depp's performances, as well as the four young boys, who make a wonderful choice for the Llewellyn-Davies family. Worth a watch!

I wasn't sure if this was going to be my cup of tea, and was concerned it may be a bit schmaltzy...but having read some really good reviews, I thought it would be worth a look (if only for Mr Depp). What a lovely film...fantastic, understated performances all round - especially from the children, and Peter in particular is wonderful and will break your heart. In fact, my heart was broken on a few occasions during this film, and I'm not ashamed to say I shed a few tears...all right I cried buckets, and so did my boyfriend, proudly and loudly!

Great story, but quite sad - the film was really good, i enjoyed it so much, but make sure you have some tissues at the end, I defy anyone not to be moved by it.

Johhny Depp proves what a versitile and empathetic actor he is , Yes it was a trifle slow, but for those who turned it off after ten minutes you really should stick to Action films which you watch but dont experience. This was an incredibly moving picture and superbly acted, I`ll be watching it again (and yeah I cried and Im an Alpha Male!!)

Well it's Johnny Depp so it gets the wife all drooly so I'm not complaining! It was a pretty good film too, atmospheric, good sets, good acting, nice story, sad ending. Its hard to put into words how this film works. Obviously the incredible performances by J Depp , K Winslet, and the brilliant Peter. We didnt know what to expect , but it portrays the playwright James Barrie, who created Peter Pan. Getting the idea from a family of mum (KW) and boys. Flitting from reality to imaginary/fantasy. Heart wrenching, funny, sad. Even if you are not sure about this one GIVE IT A TRY!!!!!!You wont be disappointed....

This film was well made, superb acting, but it fell totally flat because it had a boring storyline making it uninteresting, would have been better as a sub plot.

Overrated in my humble...overlong and just a tad bland and pretentious. But hey, everyone else seems to like it.

With the underrated release of 'Peter Pan' in 2004, J.M.B's classic story became my number one children's classic. I first heard of this film in 'Empire' Magazine (it scored a full 5 stars too) and was instantly curious. It's sad as it is funny. The acting is faultless and you really get a feel for the characters, even more so when you consider it's based on real life events. A definate must for all adult/ young adult fans of Peter Pan.

not at all what i expected so much better, a sad film but with a weird kind of happy ending. johnny depp and kate winslett have great on screen chemistry and are brilliant as usual. totally recomend this film

Lovely touching film. Jonny depp really proves he can act and Kate Winslet is good support. The person who really stole the show for me though was little Freddie Highgrove who at only a young age shows mega potential, he was utterly believable in the role. Lovely story well worth a watch...would have been nice to have an extra on the real story behind it though.

It was not at all what I expected, in the sense that it was not so much about Peter Pan and Neverland but more about how the story came about.

Johnny Depp played an amazing part. I would not say it was a kids film but more of a young adult.

This was a brilliant movie. Kate Winslet and Jonny Depp are both amazing. It was very sweet and touching. I think everybody will enjoy this movie.

What a lovely, lovely film. I don't care that it is not historically accurate this is a fantastic and magical film.

Both Kate and Jonny's performances are beautiful, the cinematography is gorgeous and the story will take you to a land far far away.

And you will cry.

Although a big Depp fan I admit I wasn't expecting to enjoy this.

Surprisingly both me and my partner did and found the insight into Barry's life touching and interesting. All the cast give great performances and Deppy's Scottish accent wasn't half bad. Look out for Captain Jack accent in one role playing scene too.

Very engaging film with avoided being over sentimental...don't skip the bonus items because there are some great out takes included.

Definitely one to watch if you are interested in books, costumes (they are fantastic), theatre and are a big kid at heart.

oh my god what can i say about this film to make it sound nice i gave up with it in the end it was so totally boring i disliked everything about it boring do your self a great big favour if you dont want to upset your self then do not watch this film i am very suprised by johnny depp but not by kate winslet she only ever chooses safe dull unimaginative roles well once again katie baby you have delivered the goods dull dull dull

Finding Neverland is a reasonable movie for the family to watch but i felt it was lacking a plot. ok so he invents neverland but that's it there's no real structure to this movie. but children and the grandparents will love it.

A truly magical thought provoking experience with all credit to Johnny Depp and Kate Winslett for yet more Oscar worthy performances. I had not read any reviews beforehand and was therefore quite unprepared for the tragic ending ... which was so very distressing to all concerned ... if only Fate could have enabled their lives to continue in a different way, would there have been yet another play with another script to follow????? Would definitely recommend this film to anyone ...

I think that Finding Neverland is an amazing film, but very sad. I watched this on my 10th birthday and I found it very enjoyable but at the end I was crying. I reccommend this to anyone who has seen Peter Pan.

A film about the troubles of growing up and the values of family. If you are the type, like me, to get emotional about this stuff, then you should enjoy this film.

Nice cast but seldom reaching top gear. Given the dark reality of the subjects life, this piece breezes over it in too light a manner. I expected a heavyweight approach and it was found wanting.

Expecting to see something along the lines of Hook, or Peter Pan - forget it, this is much more for the grown ups than the kids and plots the life of the author and the inspiration behind his play and book.

A group of four adults put this on just to see, and we were pleasantly surprised by the plot which although it was slow in parts, builds a fascinating picture.

Boring for younger kids, but a well crafted love story of a man struggling with his past.

I'd thought this film might be more for children or families, though watching it (by myself) I loved it (except the sad bits!). Lovely to see Johnny Depp & Kate Winslet together. I also learned a lot about J M Barrie (about whom I'd previously known very little). A treat, for individuals or for all the family!

this film was not what I was expecting it was a really boring film to see.

Although Johnny Depp gives a brilliant performance (even managing to out-Ewan-McGregor Ewan McGregor with his masterly scottish accent), I found this film a bit ploddy and overly sentimental. Kate Winslet, although well cast, doesnt really do very much other than be Kate Winslet in an Edwardian frock. The fantasy sequences work really well but I loathe Freddie Highmore (who plays Peter) - there is certainly 'something of the night' about him and his character merely comes across as an irritating and spoilt child, whom I wanted to clump at several points. Dustin Hoffman is really rather wasted in what amounts to a cameo role and Julie Christie plays Kate Winslet's mother in a very black/white 'penny plain, tuppence coloured' kind of way. Slowly but inexorably, the story grinds to a halt, laden down with treacle.

An unexpected gem of Depp & Winslet magic. I had not paid attention to the initial reviews of this film at the cinema releases to understand the point of this film. But having sat through it, i was overwelmed by it's grace and beauty. It is a charming tale of Peter Pan's origins that should capture everyones imagination. I'd watch this again with please. Be prepared to get the tissues out however.

If you're 80yrs old granny who likes to watch nice kids play in a park, please, rent it.

I wasn't expecting much from Finding Neverland, but it was the only film in the Top 100 I had never seen... From the opening sequence I knew I was going to be gripped, and was not disappointed. Towards the end I was sobbing like a little girl, which is a bit wrong as I am 36, and male. I didn't even cry this much at the end of Armageddon. If you are not comfortable crying in public just watch it when your other half is out for the night, but make sure you do watch it.

Here is the thing about making a movie about a historical figure. I won't argue that one has to be utterly true to biography. And I am not saying that some biographies don't benefit from dramatizations that are often compelling when cast with great actors and the relics of a bygone era. However, when a film like Finding Neverland is so much ABOUT a man (the author of Peter Pan, JM Barrie) and ABOUT how he came to write the play, and esp. when the REAL story (as recollected by witnesses, historians, and the man himself is already tragic, dramatic, compelling, etc.) why go on to tell the story so absurdly fictionalized and, worse, with those hateful 'tear-jerking' Spielbergian manipulations (half teary-eyed women folk, cue the music swells, let the kid cry....NOW and CUT!?)

Is it because the BBC has already told a truer account of JM Barrie and the Llewellyn Davies boys very well with their 'Lost Boys'? Maybe Hollywood needed a vehicle for Winslet and Depp (who seem about as bored with their characters as the characters seem to be with each other)? Or maybe they new some other studio was producing a Peter Pan film based on the script but they wanted to take the back door in and do a biog? Boring reasons and the film was dull too. It was worse than dull it was lazy.

There wasn't thought given to the depth or growth of Barrie's relationship with his wife in particular- that was washed clean of the nuance and drama that plagued his real marriage. And Winslet, lovely as ever, failed to make me believe she was dying. She was stubborn and she was coughing. Equals her Sylvia was on death's door? Barrie was meant to have become an uncle to those boys, so close he might have always been their surrogate father....but the play starts in the full push of an English summer and ends in the same glowing green of summer? A more dramatic choice (and a more accurate choice) would have seen them pass much longer time together, many years, many wonderful summers, not 2 months of playing in the garden.....lazy thinking. And put Pan's premiere at Christmas time (the true date as well) to embellish the supposed poverty of his adopted family (slightly untrue.) Give his menacing wife a foil- a menacing/jealous father (who I was alive when he met and indulged the Davies family.) Etc.

I don't blame the performers, obviously (or those lovely boys whose lines were worst of all- see the last scene where devastated Peter doesn't understand anything he's being told by a delusional Barrie and who just asks question after question after question like an irritating child why his mother is dead- seeming only to ask those questions so that Barrie/Depp can go on waxing lyrical about the magic of one's imagination and the metaphysical possibility to awaken the dead if one WANTS and BELIEVES etc. etc. etc. ), no, I blame the script. What a naff piece. Bland, undeveloped drama, too much repetition in the mood and pace of scenes ( I knew what the scene was about from the first shot and I knew it would be the same scene as last time.)

Finding Neverland involved no journey. They found Neverland and then they found someplace else to make a movie. That said, the boys performances were great, there was a wonderful rendition of the original stage production, and the fantasy sequences were delightful.

Beautiful movie...love this sort of family movie, tearjerker, great acting. I remembered once turned this movie on that I had actually seen it before but because of the lovely story I enjoyed watching it again.

I almost turned this off as I couldn't understand what was going on but I thought I would give it a chance and then found what an excellent story this is, I will buy this one for my collection.

Utterly superb and compelling drama with flawless performances from Winslett and Depp - whose Scotch accent might not have convinced those up north but fooled me. A nice, warm film with the power to tug at your heart.

The acting all the way through was phenomenal, but the performance from Freddie Highmore as Peter was extraordinary. Although not historically accurate the movie was beautifully crafted and enchanting just as Barrie intended Neverland to be.

Johnny giving another special performance this time as the Scottish playwrite who gave us Peter Pan. It has been a long time since Edward Scissorhands however in this role spends much less time in the 'Twilight Zone'. Finding Neverland is an excellent film with strong cast. Well worth its 5 star rating!

This was a real surprise for me. I like Mr J Depp, so will make an effort to watch his films (even though so many of them have dissapointed). This, however, is a truely special film. It has charm, humour, and real emotion. I had a big lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, but at the same time I was smiling. Excellent indeed.

A good performance from everyone in this movie but it just seemed to plod along at such a slow pace. Depp doing his utmost to pull off a scottish accent which is quite well done. The story itself is about the thoughts, the mind process, of how a writer gets inspired to write a fictional story book, this being Peter Pan, hence the title from the film Finding Netherland. The sequences that show what is going on in his mind as he is thinking are a little too bizzare at times when they should of come over as magical. For the die -hard Johnny Depp fans only...

Absolutely fantastic - took me back to my childhood watching it.

Dustin Hoffman waxes on and on about how gifted Johnny Depp is - and it's not just luvvie talk. The guy is good. The mark of a great actor in my opinion is someone who can shed his 'star appeal' the minute he steps into a role and you forget who he is in real life. Depp can do this big time. Accent spot on. Free spirited. And the lovely face doesn't hurt either. But what's the film like? Well I was expecting to cry more than I did. Normally I'm pretty good at the waterworks - but apart from the stunning historic detail and sweet story, it all felt a tad too long and slow for me. Loved the fairy fact though - when the first baby laughed, the first fairy was born. Beautiful stuff. It's the perfect flick to watch if you feel like 'chatting' to the kid in you again... Lots of magical moments and young at heart sentiments. A nice way to introduce a child to Pan's world...

Based on the story of the author of Peter Pan, James Barrie, who was the real Peter Pan. Johnny Depp's scottish accent was excellent and as always he played the role well. Another magical tale mixed with the sorrow of real life. A great Sunday night film.

If you've never known anything about the creator of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and the like then this film will open your eyes. A really tricky subject like adultery (or is it!) handled in a very unique and poignant way. And at last some child actors who can do so without making you wish to vomit all over the carpet.

the memories of growing up all came flooding back, imagination is a wonderful thing. i could have watched it again the minute it finished once i'd dried my eyes.

This film is excellent, Johnny Depp should have had the Oscar for this (or Captain Jack) subtle and moving portrayal of J.M. Barrie. The film reawakened my wonder of the world and the end left me in tears. Truly wonderful in every sense of the word, and the supporting cast were excellent. The extras were well worth watching - especially the gag reel.

SO loved this. Sentimental in places, but beautifully shot & imagined. Solid performances throughout, exceptional from Freddie Highmore. The film for you if you like your whimsy well thought out.

Possibly some of the best acting I have seen in years, by nearly all of the cast. Johnny Depp once again shows he is a great actor and the boy who plays Peter outshines him. A great script, I'm not usually one for period dramas, but the fact it was based on the true events of J.M. Barrie made me watch it and I'm so pleased I did. If you don't like tear jerkers or films without action avoid this, but if you like great acting and films of real thought, you don't want to miss it. Highly recommended.

This was a wonderful film with a first class performance from Mr Depp (yet again). Rarely do you really care about the characters, but each one of the actors in this made you care - gave you reason to worry about their fate. I can't recommend this enough.

Nicely underplayed by Depp. Lovely cinematography, tight sometimes witty script and a great raport between the actors make this film very enjoyable to watch. Add to that a nicely heart-warming story and you have one good film that's worth a rent.

Both Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet give rare performances of subtle, restrained depth which underline both the plot and the sentiment of the film, never letting the well-used special effects overwhelm their real-life story nor the develpment of the Peter Pan fairy tale. This unique film will help both adults and children appreciate fantasy and the complexities of real life. While achieving all this, the film investigates child development, family relations and social convention, without becoming 'preachy'. A really enjoyable and thought-provoking film.

This wasnt what I was expecting, but then again im not a huge fan of these period style films, Depp was good as usual but I found by half way I was reaching for the stop button. Must be me though as everyone else here loved it.

I feel sorry for those people who cannot appreciate a film like this, in which there is little action - but there's so much else! May be too subtle for some but a delight to myself and my two young boys.

As usual a fantastic performance from both Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. The plot was at times quite weak, leaving certain characters quite underdeveloped. The parts of the film where reality merged with fantasy were somehow implausible and detracted from what could have been complex relationships between characters and a deeper look into the creator of Peter Pan.

Not one given to gush over films, I cannot tell you what a fantastic film this is. I avoided it at the cinema with all the Oscar talk but my cyncism was totally unjustified. The acting is excellent across the board, yes, even the children. If you want to be carried to another world, neverless with reality checked, expect to be throughly satisifed with this charming, yet subtle film.

started watching with the kids and thought it may have been another version of the Peter Pan story - how wrong I was - it is basically the story of how JM Barrie got the Peter Pan idea for a play - I dont know how factual it was as I am unaware of JM Barries life - this was a film that got better as it went on - I am glad to have seen it and I am glad that it brought a tear to my eye despite my denials when the kids asked if I was crying - I am also glad that the kids saw it as I think it made them realise about the death of a parent and how it could affect them - beautifully done and would watch it again. Needless to say I have not seen a bad Johnny Depp film to date as he is on the road to being one of the greatest actors to come out of America due to his versatility and understanding of the roles he engages in. Lovely

I would recommend this film to anyone who has a bit of the Peter Pan in them. A wonderful study of childhood and how the child becomes an adult. A few deviations were taken with the truth/story but that did not matter at all. All the actors gave stirling performances, musical score great. Do watch this film and be moved by it.

This has Johnny Depp sporting a respectable Scottish accent as JM Barrie. The film centres around Barrie's relationship with four children and their mother, whilst he's already in a fairly unhappy marriage himself. It can be a bit schmaltzy at times but Depp's cheekbones make up for that and I have to admit I was crying into my hanky by the end of it. Sweet.

What a wonderful mixture of reality and fantasy. And Johnny Depp must be growing into a future acting legend - so versatile.

Johnny Depp must be the most versatile actor of our time. He is brilliant in this film as is Kate Winslet and all the childen and associated cast. I thought this was a lovely story, well shot and acted - one I could watch again and again.

although this is a pretty sentimental film it can also have a deeper and quite philosophical reading. The fear to grow up, to stop dreaming of a perfect world, to face the harsh and crude reality. It is beautiful to see the transition from childhood to adulthood of the children; and the refusal of the adult charactger to give up his dreams and his world of innocence.

I was prepared to be disappointed by this film, but swayed by the reviews decided to give it a go. Glad I did - it far exceeded my expectations. Granted the plot is a little on the thin side, but the acting all round, direction and emotional depth easily carried the day and amounted to an engaging and ultimately very moving experience. Definitely worth four tissues - sorry, stars - and one I urge you not to miss.

The most shocking thing to accept whilst watching this film is that it was not set in Nazi Germany or the in the Deep South of America,but in Africa 10 years ago, it is abhorrent that this situation was ignored by the majority of the worlds governments. Though harrowing (you will need a box of tissues!) an absolute must see for anyone.

What a wonderful film! Totally magical, thoroughly believable and charming acting all the way from start to finish. We were going to watch this with our 2 girls (4&5), I'm so glad we didin't as it wasn't long before we started crying!! Once we started that was pretty much it throughout the rest of the film.

Found this film incredibly boring apart from the last 10 minutes. My 8 year old daughter thought it was very boring also and stopped watching after about 20 minutes. Very disappointing film.

Good acting (though the children occasionally lead us into the customary kids-in-movies cringe zone) and the theatre scenes are magical, but the effort is let down by a mediocre script in my opinion (Dustin Hoffman is unusually wooden with his lines for example) and as usual with Hollywood movies this one is ok til about 2/3 the way through when it puts down the landing gear for a saccarine ending. But maybe that's the story - and maybe that's why the text was chosen.

This film completely charmed me. The two lead performances from Jonny Depp (never better) and Kate Winslet were excellent. The story is funny, moving and profound. The film's structure is based around JM Barrie and how Peter Pan came to be written. On a broad level the film tries to portray what it must be like to create a story, show etc.. The more specific issues relate to (as you would expect) the issues that Peter Pan itself raises - childishness, Never land, growing up etc... To complete the package, the direction is first class. There is a magical quality to the story telling that helps the visual impact of what you are watching, framing the issues that are being raised and provide some necessary humour. In short, see it.

I was very reluctant to watch this movie as it is not normally the sought of film i would watch. I was pleasantly suprised. if you can overcome the usual hollywood gloss that is always put on these films and enjoy the excellent performances, you will be intrigued by this small gem of a movie. As he does in pirates of the carribean, Depp drives this film along with his faultless performance. He is also supported admirably by Kate Hoffman and Kate Winslet. Without these the film would have fallen flat. This would be perfect on a wet sunday afternoon.

This film was a little more lightweight than I had hoped, but with a great performace from Johnny Depp and quite brilliant acting from the four children, the little boy Peter in particular. The special effects were beautifully done, so perfectly integrated as to be hardly noticeable. I thought the relationship between J.M Barrie, his wife, and the boy's mother, played by Kate Winslet, was a little sugary, and would like to have learned more about Barrie, the man. However, this was just a film about Peter Pan and how it came into being, and so I guess if one wants to know more about the man himself, there are books. All in all, a wonderfully executed film but apart from the acting, instantly forgettable.

How different to Capn Jack Sparrow or Willy Wonka or Edward Scissorhands or even the small part he played in Platoon. The young child actors were equal to their parts. Together they made a good story very watchable if not classic. If you enjoy a film that has not only superb acting but a very moving tale this is for you. Make sure you have your tissues handy.

This was a very interesting insight into Barrie's life but i pity his wife and I am not sure if his artistic nature gave him more licence for the times. However it was nice to see his charachter instill some wonderment and innocence into the children. What is fact and what is fantasy for both Barrie and the Auidence is realy irrelevant.

this film had me enchanted from the moment i pressed the play button till the moment it finished. We watched this film on a cold Sarurday afternoon, It is nice and relaxing and easy going just right to fall a sleep too, but that did not happen, johnny Deep works well and Julie Christie alway plays a good Bitch.

I watched this film with delight. Johnny Depp is brilliant. So is Kate Winslett. In fact all the cast are excellent and you can see why Johnny D wanted Freddie Highmore for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Freddie is an incredible young actor. I have no idea how true this story is to real life but whatever! I really enjoyed it.

Absolutely riveting film, beautifully performed by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. Once we started to watch we stayed with it to the end, couldn't leave the screen. Recommended to us by our daughter whose choice of film is not usually the same as ours! Well worth seeing through again and again.

Strangely enough, I enjoy films that make me sad. This hits the emotional spot well. The film is well made and illuminates the story behind Peter Pan well. Depp is brilliant. However by delving into the relationships of Barrie and the boys it leaves a lot of questions unanaswered. When I went on to read about the tragic reality of their lives I was disappointed that this portrayal is as far fetched as the story of Peter Pan itself!

brilliantly written , imagination and effects are great, easy to watch and follow and an enjoyable family film

I thought the film was wonderful to learn of the history and beginnings of Peter Pan and its author, for which I really knew, if anything that I might remember, nothing about. I agree with my wife, that its only downfall in the entire movie is the bad acting/character being presented by Dustin Hoffman who shows no sign of being an Englishman as he is supposed to represent in this film. Other than that, it is a great film, with good storyline and superb presentation. Not really meant for the youngsters, as my 6 year old was bored and misunderstanding alot of the film. Although my 10 year old was fixed on the film to learn what might happen next. You will enjoy this film if you are a kid at heart or want to remember what being a kid is all about.

Johnny Depp once again never fails to let you down. As you know, Depp is regarded as the best living actor in the world as of now according to the Actors Guild. It's a nice family film that is funny at times and comedical at other times and overall is a very sad movie. We are at the end of the day still children and it's nice to be able to live in the same beliefs as Peter Pan or perhaps more appropriately, JM Barrie.

I struggle with a title for this review because my overriding feeling after watching this film was one of being dislocated. It seemed too adult for the 6-10 year old kids I look after, but nevertheless a childrens' film. The less academic amongst the kids was completely lost but the others enjoyed the film and I think it was excellent because it challenged their idea of what a good film is and it held their attention throughout. It mainly charts the build up of events leading to JM Barrie's penning of Peter Pan and takes brief forrays into the world of his creative imagination at which points the film takes on a pantomime like quality. Worth a watch.

Its great to watch a movie without mindless violence and swearing (but only now and again) and this one is suitable for the family. Imaginative and romantic at times it really does open one's minds into how this writer saw the world and others. Some sad scenes but well made movie and would recommend.

I just couldn't get into this film. I tried watching it over 2 nights but the first night I fell asleep after 10 mins and the following evening I switched off only 35 mins into the film as I just couldn't take any more! I added this to my list on a whim... It was delightful! I am not ashamed to admit that I enjoyed this film even if slightly girly! Johnny Depp gave another tip top performance (and quite a convincing accent - I thought so anyway), Kate winslet was excellent, moving and the kids - although slightly too posh to really feel sorry for - were well acted parts! honestly add it to your list, your mates will take the mickey, but you'll secretly think it was good and moving! top stuff! you'll find you get quite excited to finally see some of the play towards the end... It won an oscar... for the sound track... costumes...yes... sets yes... score? mmmm can't really remember it???

After a somewhat slow start, this delightful film holds the attention and tugs on the emotions. Johnny Depp gives his usual immaculate performance, and the child actor who played Peter was superb. Definitely one to watch again.

I’ve never been quite sure of either Johnny Depp or Kate Winslet but in this beautifully told story they excel. A special mention should be made of Freddie Highmore who was the instigator of most of the tears I shed while watching this captivating film. The development of the story of Peter Pan through J M Barrie’s relationship with the Llewelyn Davies family is rich with emotion and humour. The fortunes of the playwright are paralleled in the family relationship but in reverse. Depp produces a very believable and consistent Scottish accent and he and Winslet play out the unspoken and non-physical loving relationship that develops with looks and inference. Isn’t that acting? A film made in the best ‘British’ traditions, of entertainment and story telling without resort to the extreme, my wife commented at the end ‘ not a swear word to be heard’. How refreshingly entertaining in that it left one with a good feeling. Thoroughly recommended but unless your heart is made of stone, arm yourself with a handkerchief.

Entertaining but nothing spectaular

But i have to say that this film has won me over, it was fantastic. Not the film i was expecting, rented it to keep a 10 yr old entertained, but kept me wanting more the whole way through!

Having seen all the fantastic reviews about this film, I couldn't help watching it with much expectation. However I found it very difficult to stick it through to the end. It is extremely ordinary, far too much overrated and not a bit interesting at all!

This film was very slow and lacked any eal excitement excpet at the end. I was expected the film to be finished without looking at the time. However I was constantly looking at the time. I found this film quite boring to be honest.

A beautiful adaptation of Allan Knee's play based on the writing and performance of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Johnny Depp seems a tad uncomfortable as the Scottish writer and Kate Winslet is in her usual period drama typecast. Yet this film succeeds in being enchanting from start to finish.

Excellent performances – inevitably – from the three adult leads, especially Julie Christie giving an unselfish performance as the bitch of an ambitious mother, who wants Sylvia to find another husband. Freddie Highmore was astonishing as the withdrawn Peter, the least easily seduced of the four boys when Barrie weaves his webs of enchantment; but overall the film was rather slow, and Barrie’s attraction to the family was never satisfactorily explored.

Not hard to see why lots of people like this. Not for me though. I just couldn't get my head round Johnny Depp's Scottish accent. A good, moving film but I couldn't help but wish it would just end. Didn't really interest me. More for old people and children. A little dissapointed.

The most notable thing about Finding Neverland is Depp's impeccable and nuanced Scottish accent. There really isn't a trace of his American twang and I must admit that this was something that I was worried about before the film began. Imagining Barrie with a Yankee brogue was just unthinkable and thankfully it didn't happen. On the whole, though, Neverland is little more than a capable film. Depp is his usual excellent self and he manages to steer his character clear from the inevitable accusations of paedophilia had there been anything sinister - or dare I say anything Willy Wonka - about his performance. Radha Mitchell is the very essence of English stiffupperlipism, invariably more bothered about the family reputation than her own failing relationship. Our very own Kate Winslet is an adequate 'other' to Mrs Barrie but sadly, despite the obvious depths of her talent, the character she chooses to play is merely a slightly older version of Rose from Titanic rather than utilise the freakish acting talents she displayed in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In general, Neverland was an interesting watch but that might have been because I have studied and researched Barrie rather than the merits of the film.

A good angle to tell the story of peter pan

You could be forgiven for expecting this to be rather dull and pedestrian. In the hands of a less skilled director and cast it could very well have been. As it is this film never fails to hold your attention and pulls at the heart strings without being in any way over sentimental. Highly Recommended Viewing.

Get your tissues ready, this film is really good, very sad and made me cry but the perfomances from all (especially the kids) are brilliant, really enjoyed it definately worth watching

Hard to fault the acting by all involved, and the story behind the sotries eveyone knows is also interesting. Sumptuous sets, but I found it dragged a little in places and was a touch indulgent. Definately worth a watch though, if only to find out more about the writer and possibly cry at the end (My wife didn't quite, but got very close). Well done Kate & Johnny

Never say never!! _wasn't too convinced on the idea, however after watching it....with a little tear shed in parts....i found it really enjoyable. A total chick flick....but Jonny Depp was brill....as always.

Well made film, entwining the life of Barrie and his famous creation Peter Pan.

Didn't enjoy this much. Thought it would be better given the cast. In fairness to Kate Winslett and Johnny Depp, they played their roles with their usual flair but the storyline was slow and 'twee'.

Probably the only serious problem with Marc Forster's surprising excursion into Edwardian London, is the remorseless assault the last couple of reels make on the audience's tear-ducts. Suddenly all pretence to subtlety goes out of the window (along with any semblance of verisimilitude, it may be added), as the cast and director conspire to try to make us weep and then weep some more. And the annoying fact is, the film really doesn't need it. Strong in its restraint, and never wallowing in sentiment, it refuses to white-wash Barrie, while still managing to celebrate perhaps the greatest play of the twentieth century (and if you don't believe me, go away and read it). Depp's Scottish brogue wavers on occasions; otherwise the acting is just perfect.

I think this is not bad a film to watch but may be a little slow for me.

This is a great film as it comes from a differnet direction compared to other Peter Pan films since it shows how he got the means to write it from the children. My wife cried her eyes out in the end, so making this a very nice Sunday afternoon Film, ggod for children as well as adults.

It's fair to say that J M Barrie never really grew up, and this creatively, was his great strength, and as a man, arguably, his greatest weakness. I watched this film with low expectations, but became captivated after the first ten minutes or so, mainly because the acting was outstanding - Johnny Depp's Scottish accent was quite impressive. By the time I got to the ending, I must confess I was deeply moved by the story which was both sad and uplifting. You probably need to be in the right mood for this film, but it's unusual and well worth renting. And it does leave behind unanswered questions about Barrie's sexuality and his love of children. I prefer to believe he was a man who simply refused to put away childish things, but perhaps I'm being charitable - as the film was.

An interesting and imaginative view on the life of James Barrie. Johnny Depp does a good Scottish accent and Kate Winslet is brilliant as always but overall a bit of a done to death storyline.

The film is superb and will be enjoyed even more if you are familiar with the Peter Pan story. Great for adults and older kids. Acting is great, but the storyline..it is just excellent. It puts you back in time, and blurs the boundaries between reality and dreams. This film touched me deeply, and made my day.

This lay on my shelf for 3 weeks until I got round to watching it. What a mistake. This was an excellent film and is worth watching just for Johnny Depp with a Scottish accent (not quite fife but we can let him off). I enjoyed this from start to finish but it was not my husbands cup of tea. A bit of a chick flick perhaps.

A thoroughly enjoyable film about the events surrounding the writing of one of England's best loved childrens fairy stories. Impeccable acting from Depp and Winslet though they nearly have the show stolen from them by the child actors who are just perfect. Watchout for the small cameos from Mackenzie Crook (The Office) and Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show). IMHO, Dustin Hoffman has the best line in the film. Highly recommended, though have a hanky at the ready...

This was a pleasant film to watch. Very enjoyable

I was really looking forward to watching this film, but not half as much as my wife who for the first time pleaded with me to turn on the projector and dim the lights.

After a fairly slow start it picked up to be an enjoyable film with emotional attachments that you felt between the characters. Not my first choice but my wife enjoyed it.

Thoroughly enjoyed this film which takes you behind the scenes (so to speak) of the story of Peter Pan. A great performance by the two main characters.

Well worth a viewing by anyones standards.

Depp has done it again with a fantastic protrayal of Barrie in this wonderfully adapted film. Winslett gives another outstanding performance as the mother of four fatherless children and Christie is top notced as Winslett's mother.

The film has charm, magic, wonderment and emotions that drives the story to its conclusion. If you were to see one film, than this would be it. The director does not put a foot wrong. This is a film that you can cherish again and again. The only fall back is that it could use a documentary about Barrie and the plight of the children of the story but this is not a complaint of the film, just the extra features on the disc.

A must see.

This is a lovely film - just make sure you have a box of tissues around - Depp is fantastic as JM Barrie and Freddie Highmore is brilliant as Peter the boy Barrie based Peter Pan on - the film is very gentle while exposing some of the hard ships faced by both Barrie in his relationship with his wife and that of the Llewellyn Davis boys and their parents.

A good film to watch with your loved ones.

We both thought that this was a wonderful film. To start with it was a little difficult to get into, but once you understood the build up for the characters, then the film took you away.

We both thoroughly enjoyed the film and I personally felt the emotions at the end, won't say too much as it will spoil it. A really wonderful film and a deserving 6.

The acting of Mr Depp superb, but the real sensitive moments performed by Freddie Highmore, well supported by all the actors who performed in this movie, young and old.

Good movie, for JM Barrie you could almost read Jacko ... well kinda'. Quite sad too really, with a restrained performance by Depp, who pulls off the 'less is more' paradigm better than any actor since Brando in his hey-day, and that's saying something.

I was surprised to have enjoyed this as much as I did, quite a sad film and very well acted, bit of a tearjerker.

Only added this to the list as I remembered hearing Johnny Depp had an Oscar nomination for it and had heard nothing else. What I got was a really well made, and well acted by all the cast, film.

Johnny Depp is superb and it really brings the story of Peter Pan to life.

My kids watched this and most of it was too sophisticated for them and it went way over their heads.

My wife and I sat down to watch it and were captivated! On the whole this is a really 'happy' film showing the love Barrie had for the 'lost boys' but the end (excepting the twist) is 'sad'.

This film was so well written and the parts were so well played you forget very quickly who you are watching and concentrate purely on the two that charcters that are key in this great film.

Quite a weepy one, with excellent performances from Depp and Winslet and some good acting from the children as well. Great if you like period drama, seamlessly merging Barrie's every day life with his magical imagined world.

In all the media fuss that arose around the Oscars of 2005, between the Aviator and Million Dollar Baby, it seems too many people (and Oscar judges) missed a minor masterpeice.

Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet continue to grow into fine actors, putting in performances to stand alongside their respective bests. In my opinion, Sleepy Hollow and Iris.

Backed by a fine supporting cast, including very talented child actors and cameos by many well known British actors, the leads help the director create an atmospheric visual and sonic tapestry that blends easily from reality to fantasy.

The visual effects while expertly done, are childlike and innocent and while some may see the film as a whole a little to light, I think it is a balanced as it can be for its all too short running time. How many films have you seen recently that finished too early? My only niggle would be the failure to go into any depth regarding J.M. Barrie re: the failure of his marriage, which is not explained fully for someone going into the story with no prior knowladge of the writer. But it is indeed only the smallest of niggles for a film which I think will be fondly remembered in years to come.

Before watching this film I really wasn't sure what to expect. I knew it was about J.M. Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan but that was it. I wasn't sure if it was a straight biopic or a fantasy about his imagination. Thankfully it was a bit of both.

The 'reality' elements i.e. Barrie's (Johnny Depp) marriage, his relationship with Sylvia Davies (Kate Winslet) and her mother (Julie Christie) are fantastic. This is mainly due to accomplished acting performances by both the leads and the supporting cast. Radha Mitchell as Barrie's wife is both beautiful and captivating, Julie Christie is ferocious. Barrie's interaction with the children, who so badly need a father, is truly heart wrenching.

The short imagination fantasy's that are interspersed throughout the movie are wonderfully realised but thankfully do not engulf the film. It would have been a shame if too many Neverland sequences had detracted from the honest human elements of the piece.

All in all a really enjoyable watch, one that I predict the whole family could enjoy. Lastly, do not panic but Depp does adopt a Scottish accent for the film, happily it doesn't waver badly and is not too offensive.

Throughout the movie we are treated to an experience of great storytelling that is handled with great care and never becomes over sentimental.

It has great performances from the entire cast, with the outstanding Johnny Depp playing J.M. Barrie; who he plays him with great aplomb and with a flawless Scottish accent.

This is a great movie and well worth discovering.

I don't think I have yet to see a film with Johnny Depp that hasn't been worth watching, and this is no exception. His protrayal of J.M.Barrie is intriguing and compelling to watch. Kate Winslett was disappointing and I felt a little more could have been shown of Barrie's writing but in all a very well put together film.

I enjoyed this film but the rest of my family gradually disappeared to do "homework" and the washing up! I guess it must appeal more to ladies than men!

It's a smaller film than I expected, but the acting was very good. Johnny Depp plays his role in a small and gentle fashion, ably supported by the rest of the cast.

Once again, the scene where Peter Pan asks the audience if they believe in fairies, and once again a powerful impact - I love that speech.

Telling the story of a grown mans 'inability' to let go of his child hood and an unsuccessful playwrite. Depp embarks on a story of fantasy with a mother and her children giving way to the story of Peter Pan.

Very upsetting in parts and funny in others i was very impressed with this movie.

As JM Barrie, Johnny Depp has created a storyteller and fantasist every bit as engaging and obsessive as his movie director Ed Wood. Equally great is Monster’s Ball director Mark Forster who gets surprising performances from all the children and never takes the easy dramatic option, right to the final scene. A real delight.

My husband wasn't keen on this because it didn't have any of the typical "boys" attributes to the kind of films he likes. The only weapons you see in this film are the the wooden swords of the Lost Boys! Personally, I found it quite refreshing to watch a film with no sex or violence!

Watch out for the actor who stars as young Peter - he's definitely going places. This is the first film I've watched in ages where I've had to fight back tears.

This is a pleasant enough film and most people will enjoy it, as my family did. Decent story, all about the creation of Peter Pan etc. Decent acting from Depp/Winslet. However, it was a glossy and cosy Hollywood version of the real story of J.M Barrie.

A totally heartwarming and beautiful film which is a million miles from the usual Hollywood pap. The touching and innocent story of J.M Barrie's journey to Neverland and his creation of Peter Pan is nothing more than a delight and you are completely drawn into his imaginative world when he meets and befriends Kate Winslet and her four young sons that inspire him.

Depp, as usual, is superb-as is his Scottish accent-and is abley assisted by Kate Winslet and Dustin Hoffman but the youngster playing Peter is the real star of the show.

I can't recommend this film highly enough.

A close friend of mine asked me to rent it out so we could give it a watch. I sat down with a few friends and we all absolutely adored the movie.

Johnny Depp gives an outstanding performance as James M Barrie, the chap who wrote Peter Pan. This is the first time I've heard a British accent from an American actor sound perfect...it sounded better than perfect!

Even Kate Winslet, who I am not over keen on, was brilliant. She really is starting to pick some great roles, 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' being another one!

This is great entertainment for anyone, be it on ya todd, with ya partner or as a family! This movie will make you laugh and cry at the same time!

My husband and I really enjoyed this film. We put it on with the kids aged 3 and 6 however they soon lost interest.

My expectations of this film weren't that high to be honest, but it's one of those rare films that gets better as it goes along. The climax is a real surprise and a tear jerker.

It was touching and funny and perfect for a Sunday afternoon. I'd certainly recommend it.

I have never really liked Peter Pan. But, I am a great fan of Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. I am a fan of imaginary films, like Moulin Rouge, I am a child at heart when it comes to that. That is why I thought that I would like this film.

I cried at the end, which is always a good sign for me! It has made me think of Peter Pan in a different light, and I look forward to watching the cartoon and thinking of how it might have been inspired!

I enjoyed it while I was watching it. Depp is fey and enigmatic, the children are good and we get some lovely interiors and costumes, but it did not satisfy in the end.

Too many meaningful glances and sighs and silences and not enough exploration of the relationship and the gossip it engendered.

It took itself too seriously for what was really just a pretty costume drama.

I really enjoyed this film. It was endearing, the cast were fabulous and it was one of those films that lights up your life. If you liked House of America then I would recommend this as its more main stream cousin.

What a beautiful film. It was a pleasure to watch from the beginning to the very sad end. It has no sex, violence or anything like that just a truly brilliant man with an extaordinary imagination and pure intentions. Why can't more films be like this. Definitely a film to snuggle up on the sofa, with chocolates and watch the fantasy unfold.

A truly beautiful movie to behold in all aspects.

The sets and direction and music perfectly complement a story rife with contradicting themes. The simple everyday joys that life can offer contrast with the cruelty and heartbreak of premature death. One man holding on to his childhood, a child rediscovering the joys of being young, while the elder brother becomes a man as he deals with the serious condition of his mothers health.

The family dynamics are reminiscent of the Von Trapps, substitute Depp for Julie Andrews and Close (playing Winslet's mother) for Christopher Plummer.
Top performances all round, and highly recommended.

Meet the real Peter Pan! Well, as real as he's ever likely going to be! The story, great! The plot, Excellent! But the ending.......Grab a hanky. If you have feelings that show when you watch a film and you like to feel that little lump in your throat? Then watch this.

I'm not one for a sob story and this film is not that, but a well written well filmed story about a man doesn't see why when we grow up, we should forget the child in ourselves. This Peter Pan is truly believeable and a real must see for the person that knows the child in theirselves but knows when the time need be to be a sensible adult. Bravo Johnny Depp.

Depp has never been better. His Scottish accent sounds as if it were voiced by Ewan McGregor, but it can’t be - can it? A little maudlin towards the end, and a tad implausible. But a box of chocs and rain at the windows and you won’t want it to end. The music is especially stunning.

This film was simply magical. Johnny Depp captures the mood and feel of JM Barrie and Kate Winslet is wonderful, as ever. The children especially Peter and Michael, are also good. This movie constantly dips into the furtive imagination of J M Barrie and you get swept along into his magical world.
Several moments are amazing and the flips between reality and the effects to illustrate these are especially good, (the pirate ship scene is marvellous).
Give yourself a treat and get swept into this magical world...

I rented this movie because it was nominated for so many Oscars, and because it was considered the underdog favorite to steal a few.

I was disappointed. I thought the movie was maudlin and artificial; as a result the imaginative leaps required by the audience (intentionally parallelling the "clap if you believe in fairies!" moment in the actual play) did not work.

It depended heavily on its actors, who rarely impressed. The child actors said unrealistically cute and clever lines in an unrealistically wooden way, and the female stars (Kate Winslet and Julie Christie) never emerged as more than one dimensional characters playing a bit part in a Johnny Depp movie. Kate Winslet was notable mostly for being incredibly gorgeous, distractingly so, because it made her difficulty in finding a husband quite unlikely.

Depp created a believable character but didn't save a movie with a weak plot and a 90 minute runtime that somehow seemed long. I enjoyed the Peter Pan book, movie, and play, and enjoyed how the movie dramatized events in Barrie's life that could have inspired him to write his play. That effect was spoiled in part, however, by the knowledge that the screenwriters changed the actual events of Barrie's life for the purposes of the movie.

It's not a bad movie, but I'd recommend using the slot in your queue for another film unless you're a particular Johnny Depp or Peter Pan fan.

I loved this mesmerising: gentle, humourous, insightful, interesting and convincing (except maybe the Scottish accent). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone, unless you're looking for car chases that is.

This film was not what I expected at all.
Assuming it was a modern day adaptation of Peter Pan I naively selected this film. In the frame of mind for neverland and tinkerbell I watched but my expectations never came to light.

The film is the writer of Peter Pan's life as he wrote the play.
It is touching and brilliantly written and did make me cry at the end through the sad story and its pathos.

I wasn't ready to be emotionally challenged when I started the film, but if I was I would have enjoyed it more.
Think of it as the Peter Pan version of Shakespeare in Love.

Johnny Depp with a Scottish accent living in Edwardian London. I felt his perfomance was somewhat restrained perhaps because he was grappling with the accent, and the magical essence which the movie tried to encapsualate was perhaps missing at key moments. The central performances by the young male actors was excellent however. Dustin Hoffman was... well Dustin Hoffman.

Overall some fine moments evoking an interesting period of British History, but ultimately, lacking depth.

And a bit sad is the best way to describe this. Depp is, as always, excellent and the film is clever and very touching. Highly recommend for a sunday evening, but bring tissues!

I must admit I had high expectations about this film, having read the glowing review in Empire magazine.

I'm not saying I disliked the film but I felt that there was something missing.

Freddie Highmore I agree is worthy of the praise he has recieved for his role as Peter. But I felt that both Winlset and Depp have impressed more in other roles.

Overall better than average film but nothing to write home about. There is a lot of sad moments in the film so have your hankies at the ready.

This is a fantastic movie which really pulls you in. As the final credits rolled I found myself saying this was the best movie I had seen in ages.

Just as I've said it was a nice film to watch when you don't want anything too heavy, too lovey-dovey, too adventurous, etc.

It is also visually interesting and leaves you thinking (just a little) about the characters and their lives. The children were wonderful in this, which is a good switch from the good-looking but bland child actors that usually star in "Hollywood" films. Not surprising, this director also directed "Monsters Ball," which was fabulous.

He is a strange actor but love him or hate him this is an excellent movie. Very touching and watchable, bottle of wine relax and enjoy.

The tale of JM Barries writing and the ideas that lay behind the "Peter Pan" story are beautifully put together in the touching, well acted and beautifully paced film. The ending is perfect and I would recommend the film to anyone. It is are perfectly cast and the sections where Peter Pan is being staged are, well, magical!!

J M Barrie was the playwright who dreamt up Peter Pan back in 1903. This film tells the story of how he was inspired by the family he befriended as he sat in the local park. At the time he was struggling to come up with a new idea following the flop of his latest effort in London's theatreland. Johnny Depp puts in a fantastic performance as Barrie and he is supported brilliantly by Kate Winslet and Dustin Hoffman. Victorian England is brought magically to life by the filmmakers.

The story is full of emotion, sadness, happiness and tragedy and if you don't shed a tear at this then you can't be human.

This was recommended to me and I was slightly disappointed. It never really seems to start and I found myself getting on with the housework while it was on. Watch it if you really have nothing better to do.

Quite a moving and different view on the creator of Peter Pan and his relationship with a family of children and their mother- well worth a look.

An excellent movie, great acting and a very engaging story. Depp in particular is remarkably good and is one of the few actors whose work I would watch purely because he is in it.

Despite what I thought was a slow start, this film does improve and turns out to be an enjoyable film best suited for family viewing.

No swearing, no violence and quite good!

Finding Neverland is a unique film, not fitting easily into any of the categories of romance, or adventure, or whatever. It avoids stereotypes and that is its strength -- a warm film that takes a sideways look at human relationships and creativity, and delivers something special.

Bit slow to start with, but eventually got going, not too bad worth watching. Good actors and acting, could have been better regarding Kate Winslets role.

Winslet - a word that strikes fear into my heart. I desperately wanted to see Finding Neverland, a real-life story of JM 'Peter Pan' Barrie, inspired by true events.

After all, it has Johnny Depp as the main actor - who scarcely puts a foot wrong, be it in a comic or straight role.

Sadly, it has Kate Winslet as Depp's foil, and here is where I spent ages deliberating whether or not I should overcome my personal prejudices. Finally I did, but to no avail.

Depp is wonderful - how he manages to immerse himself so completely in a character, so you forget how beautiful he is, is quite a phenomenal achievement. Equally, Freddie Highmore, who plays the young Peter is superb. Julie Christie is also great as Winslet's mother.

But then there is Kate - so stuffy and unemotional and unemotive that she hangs over the rest of the movie like a pall of black smoke.

Most people could probably overlook this, but if you haev any doubts about Kate Winslet, don't be surprised if she also ruins this movie for you. You have been warned!

I poignant and rewarding film. Crucially, you don't spend the film cringing at Depp's Scottish accent, as it's spot on. Also, the film is absorbing enough to allow you to forget that Kate Winslet is Kate Winslet.

It's possibly a bit limited in terms of scope, and we could certainly learn more about who J.M.Barrie really was, but what this film does cover, it covers beautifully.

Load of rubbish really. Very little plot in a film that is far too long! Had to keep skipping sections to get to the end faster, and in the end gave up.

Finding Neverland is beautiful made and magical. It shows what we all should do, Dream and Believe!

An all-round 'nice' film. Johnny Depp is great in the main role. It wasn't as sugar-coated as I was expecting, which is a good thing. Ideal for fans of period romances.

I had no idea what the film was about when I rented it. I love most of Johnny Depp’s films, but this was just wonderful! I think Johnny is a very versatile actor and I love his Scottish accent!! Kate Winslet was just lovely.

I will be buying this film as I will watch it again and again!

From start to finish this film had me hooked (no pun intended). Johnny Depp was, as usual, superb, Julie Christie excellent as Kate Winslets over protective mother, but the star for me was little Freddie Highmore as Peter. He surely is a star of tomorrow.

Finding Nerverland was brilliant, a tearjerker, love story and boy grows up all in one. Johnny Depp is perfectly convincing as a Scotsman and Kate Winslet and the young cast do really well. Excellent movie, in my favourites of all time in this category!

I really enjoyed this film and was surprised to learn so much more about John Barrie. Beautifully presented and left me slightly near tears at the end!

Really enjoyed this, the cast were fantastic, I found it a bit slow in the first 5 minutes but then it took off. If you are fed up of shoot em up or thriller movies this is it.

Costumes are perfect. If you have older children particularly fans of Peter Pan they will enjoy this.

Freddie Highmore is a fantastic little actor, he had me in floods! Kate Winslet was great, as usual, as was Julie Christie. A definite must see! An enchanting story, appealing to anyone who liked Peter Pan as a child. I loved this film so much, all my friends are 'gonna hear about this.

I am a big JD fan and although his movie choices often crash and burn, they are never dull. This is the highly emotional tale of that geezer wot wrote Peter Pan.

Dont be fooled its apparently gentle story, you will be caught up in the tidal wave of emotions that seep from every frame of this film i.e. its a bit of a chick flick and you will cry.

But its got more heart and intelligence than most of the rubbish around lately, and for that, and Jate and Johnny's performances, it must be commended.

An emotional journey that takes us two stars to the right and straight on til morning. Or something like that.

Johnny Depp is on fine form as usual and so are all the supporting players. Winslet, Hoffman and especially those darn pesky kids. Each of them putting in a wonderful performance which will make you laugh, make you cry and keep you entertained as events take a turn for the worst.

Putting the pieces of Pan together is part of the fun and everytime we step inside John Barrie's head we are greeted with some of the most enchanting imagery of recent years. The ending is a real choker.

The movie does take its time in reaching its tissue teasing climax, even with a reasonably modest running time, but Nevaland is never too far away and beats at the heart of this gem of a movie.

This is simply a most gorgeously sensitive film. I had originally feared that it might be a bit 'preachy' - but I couldn't be more wrong. The performances are beautifully subtle and understated which in turn makes the characters - especially that of Depp and Winslet all the more beleivable.

This film really brings home the message that time is always snapping at our heels and we should spend as much of our time as feasibly possible actually enjoying ourselves and using our imagination in a pro-active way to achieve this. The fim ends on the theme of imagination also - this time reminding us of how it can help alleviate pain - if only we let it.

As a final point, it's a pity this is not as popular as many other films released at the same time as it's just as good as any of the so-called blockbusters out there.

This movie is a truely charming adaptation of the story behind the creation of Peter Pan. I found the acting to be first class by all parties involved. It was impossible to find fault and will appeal greatly to a universal audience.

The only, ONLY downside is Depp's pretty poor Scottish accent to match his pretty poor Irish accent from 'Chocolat', his pretty poor English accent from 'Sleepy Hollow' and from 'Hell', and his unrecognisable cockney-Keith Moon hybrid accent from 'Pirates of the Caribbean'

That's it. That's as much as I can say against it. Depp, Winslet, the kids, the bit-parts, all spot on. Sets, costumes, direction, script... Rocking.

I'm a pretty manly man (according to my mummy) but even I was misty at the end.

This is an amazing film, of which I highly recommend.

Not only was the story good, and the acting superb. The message behind the tale is very powerful and is a reminder of how when you grow up sometimes the most important thing we forget is how to actually live.

A lovely film in many ways, and I'm really not the weepy film kind of girl, but this film is not your normal weepy, although it did make me cry like a baby!

One for young and old a like. Not to be missed!

It's always interesting to see how well American's do British accents, and Johnny Depp is no exception; particularly after his Mick Jagger impression in Pirates. However, his Scots accent was probably less curious than Kelly Macdonald's English one... Anyway, that notwithstanding, I rather enjoyed Finding Neverland. Depp was as entertaining as ever, Winslet nicely underplayed her role when it could so easily have been hammy, and the kids' acting was all good too (with the possible exception of the youngest). The costumes were gorgeous and the sets idyllic. A nice, Sunday afternoon movie.

I loved this film! Why Mr Depp was panned for his accent (again) I will never know - if anyone wants to hear a truly awful "British" accent, then watch Keanu Reeves in 'Dracula'. Now that’s a bad accent...

Kate Winslet is quite charming in this film and it's poignant and lovely and worth a watch.

My son loves his Peter Pan video he'd watch it all day every day if I let him. He watched this film with me and totally understood that JM Barrie was the man that made Peter Pan. We loved it and would recommend it to everyone. Good clean happy and sad family viewing.

Yet again, another amazing performance from Johnny Depp.

The film is subtle, and yet tugs at all the heart strings by the end of the movie.

For some reason I'm reminded of the film "Shadowlands" - they both deal with the loss of one's parents - so if you enjoyed that film, you shouldn't miss this one.

A brilliant film, 'Johnny Depp' is masterful in his role as JM Barrie.
'Kate Winslet' is a good single mother also.

The kid actors are also ones to watch as they put in a memorable performance.

The plot is one of the Peter Pan story, i.e it needs no introduction.

I was surprised that the inclusion of these two great actors did not produce a more gripping film. I think the fault lay with the dialogue - it was just a bit too corny. Some lovely visuals though - definitly watchable - just not great

From the start this superlative cast, crisp script and enchanting muses capture your imagination.

It charts the creation of Peter an in the mind of CM Barrie and the scandal (of the time) which seems prudish in the extreme. Depp, as usual, is superb - only matched by a fantastic female cast and the appearance of Peter - played by the boy who also plays Charlie to Depp's Willy Wonka.

This film will make you cry, a powerful grown up "Shakespeare In Love" with more passion, reality and unreality thrown in.

With a slow start, the pace soon picked up and as a viewer you were wisked away into fighting along side the characters in a battle between imagination and reality.

Art and life became one. Beautiful cinematography. Rare to see a film set actually on location in London. Love Kate Winslet in any depiction of an English period character. Great film for all the family. Very touching.

Wow. Quite simply, what a wonderful film. I wasn’t sure what to expect from it but I had the impression it would be a ‘Disney’ epic targeting juniors. I couldn’t have been more wrong (thankfully). It’s a truly touching, intriguing story with comforting philosophical undertones that stimulate thoughts about the meaning of life and beyond.

The performances by all the cast was superb. Depp’s versatile talent brings the film to life and Winslet perfectly compliments him in a role which fits her like a glove. Perhaps the most surprising casting success was the children. Their performance was way beyond what I would normally expect for their ages. In particular, the child playing Peter (the character JM Barrie based Peter Pan on) possibly sealed this movie with the most ‘real’ acting I’ve ever seen from a child.

It is one of the most enchanting, beautiful films I’ve seen which had also had a thought provoking, meaningful story. A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable film for all the family.

I tell you it boils my blood to see a Scottish character done badly when there are so many talented actors here. I'm a big fan of Johnny Depp but his accent here is terrible and much as it pains me his performance is more than a little stilted aswell. Sorry Johnny but even the dog is better than you. Marketing shmarketing - this could have been excellent with a quailty Scottish actor playing Barrie. It's deeply moving and funny. All other performances are very good, especially the little boy playing Peter who is fantastic. I liked the touch of casting Hoffman too with his links to the Pan story.

It was beautifully done and kept my husband and I enthralled for the whole time.

My husband wasn't as keen to watch this film but was surprised at how good it was.

A good movie for a weekday evening when there is nothing interesting on tv. It's a chick flick and pulls all the right heart strings. It reveals a little, but not enough of the man who was and invented the forever young Peter Pan. It also deals with grief, the importance of family and the ties between children and their parents, across a number of generations and beyond death.

The boy who played Peter Pan is nothing better than miraculous, strange little face that made you cry before he had opened his mouth, what casting, and Depp putting in one of his best performances, he continually surprises, it's not a children's film as I thought, very grown up.

This was wonderful film. It was refreshing and full of suprises. Jonny depp was excellent, his scottish accent sounded fine to me but I'm sure there'll be a few scotts who disagree.

A well handled and senstive film that will have grown men weeping like small children. The director uses delicate tocuhes to capture the dreamlike world of neverland created from the experiences and imagination of the JM Barrie. A story that manages to entrall, entertain and capture the pure emotions that link a mother and her children. Pass the tissues and prepare to cry.

Slow start, but with such an excellent cast soon began to be enchanting. So interesting to see the buds of the idea form and then realize their potential. Didn't want it to end.

Although Kate Winslet and Johnny Deppe were very good in this tale about the writer of Peter Pan - it was very slow and at times I was close to switching it off before the end.
I'm glad a perserved but beware - if you are expecting a film for children with lots of fantasy & fun - this is not it!

The background to the genesis of Peter Pan proves interesting and thought provoking. The author was himself a man that never grew up and had the most vivid imagination.

I watched this film with my husband and we both really enjoyed it.....Well at first he picked up his study book as he didn't think that it would be much fun, but after 10 mins his book was shut and he had a big smile on his face as he watched Peter Pan come to life........Johnny Depp at one of his best roles.....Wish it could all be real.

After some time of avoiding this one for what now seems like foolish reasons, I finally succumed to my wifes pestering and sat down to watch this one. From the very beginning I was hooked. Johnny Depp gives a fantastic depiction of a man I new very little about. Although I am an Englishman I would say that his Scottish accent was spot on and helped to draw you in to the story. Kate pulls of another great performance and the pair of them together show just how difficult it must have been to be free spirited in the closed minded society of the time. I would recomend this film to everyone it taught me a great deal about the sad beginnings of a beautifull story that had not even crossed my mind.

I wasn’t disappointed, this is one of those films that has you

This is one of those times in your life when you ask"Just what happened to my childhood?" Finding Neverland is an absolute treat to the Peter Pan's of this world, It reminds us of those innocent days, when your imagination was able to "imagine" rather than ponder how the interest rate has risen.
The film never really deals with why James has such a loveless marriage, and the actress playing his wife has an awful lot to put up with! Most of us adults would have to sympathise with her.
Fantastic acting by the kids who steal the show and a difficult mark for the adults to reach.
All in all pure fantasy to lighten the heart, A must to watch... Look out for the crocodile.......AAAARRRGGGGHHH!!!

It is quite rare that you get a film which slowly engulfs you without you even noticing, but by the end of this film i was completely moved.

Both Freddie Highmore and Kate Winslet deserve particular credit for the spellbinding performances they put in, with Depp alongside them flawless as ever but the other two impressed the most. The film begins slowly with J. M Barries imagination unfolding before your eyes in his Neverland.

The message in his master work Peter Pan, being to retain the quality of youth and don't be too quick to grow up is conveyed beautifully as a stage play and you can imagine the wonder of what it must of been like to been around in the time of its creation.

It is a elite movie about a great mind which needed to be portrayed on film. I f you dont have glassy eyes by the end of this like i did then you are surely very cold indeed.

This film was a real surprise one we avoided at the cinema and then watched enthralled on DVD.

A good Sunday afternoon film - enjoyed by the children but would be better for slightly older children or adults.

I rented this dvd for my wife to watch, me being a lover of the tarantino school of drama myself.

I watched from over the top of my laptop while working, had to stop as the story and acting like the peter pan story itself draws you in. Everyone right down to the dog gave an oscar performance.

I gave this a 6 rating and would recommend it to anyone from 8 to 80 a winner and has certainly changed my opinion on mr depp as a serios actor.

Now back to work because i didn't finish my work last night because of it, dont you miss it.

Wonderful movie!! Watched three times and each time it made me feel the same way as I felt the first time.. Down to earth characters, good acting, all sorts of emotions, sadness, happiness, love, embarassment... I strongly suggest this one.

I thought I would enjoy this film, what was surprising though was my husband & 2 sons aged 9 & 11 also enjoyed this film.

I would have probably given it 5* if I had enjoyed alone, but have given it 6* as it was a great family film, which we all enjoyed.

This is an amazing film that made me cry!


The lead characters are at their finest and they should all be proud of making such a wonderfull film that Im sure will be watched for years to come.

Moving without being overly sentimental, enjoyable from beginning to end.

It's an interesting take on "Peter Pan" showing how the great story was conceived by virtue of the author's involvement with a complex but loving family.

I didn't know what to expect with this film, but I did expect Johnny Depp to be good.

I wasn't disappointed there.

His accent was brilliant and he seemed to just fall into the role.

However, I did find the film very slow going and I was itching for it to end, but couldn't switch it off.

The end was worth waiting for.

Johnny Depp as J.M. Barrie. He never puts a foot wrong although his Scottish accent might be laughed at by those living in Barrie's native land.

Supporting performance by Kate Winslett as the mother of the children entertained by his stories of 'Peter Pan'.

A little sentimental, but gets by with the expertise of the direction and the acting.

This film deserves all the accolades it has received - I want to add another one.

Johnny Depp and co - turn what could have been a boring run-of-the-mill story into something approaching perfection. The additional Bonus Bits are great as well - watch them!!

I learnt more about JM Barie with this DVD than I ever knew before. Should be up there with the classics.

I rented this film because it was recommended to me. As i watched it i sat back and my jaw just dropped. It started well, became excellent in the middle and ended excellently. Johnny Depp is just superb, as an actor and as the cahracter in this film. He has an uncanny ability to just beldn into his characters. jsut superb.

Very pleasantly surprised, I had my reservations but thoroughly enjoyed it. And had a cry to! This is a PG rating and my 8 year enjoyed this but I would not recommend a younger audience.

When I added Finding Neverland to my rental list It was purely because i needed a family film for a Sunday afternoon. Little did I know that I would be engrossed in this amazing story, crying almost from beginning to end I was more than a little suprised at this fantastic story. All the actors were superb and the relationship between Barrie (Depp) and the children was second to none. I can't believe that being a literature fan I did not know the amazing story behind where Peter Pan came from. A mesmerizing film that I would happily (or sadly in some parts) watch over and over again.

I rented this for my wife, with no intent to sit and watch this sentimental rubbish, how wrong was I?!!! Depp is superb as is Winslet, infact the whole cast are great! By the end I was sharing the box of tissues with my wife. It's heartening that in the world today we can still find little gems like this which can move even an old cynical B'stard like myself! next stop Bambi.......

This was a really entertaining and highly absorbing film and even more interesting as it is based on real life.I would thoroughly reccommend it.

I absolutely loved this movie. A beautiful tale of the life of a playwright and how his inspiration for the best play he has ever written came from 4 fatherless boys. Witty and exciting, a must see!

a heart warming yet very cheesey flick

I wasn't sure about this to start with especially when Johnny Depp started dancing with his dog but I'm SO glad I stuck with it. One of the loveliest and most heart wrenching films i've seen. I tried so hard not to be a girl and cry but alas, the boyf and I were both sobbing like babies. If you want a tear-jerker -this is for you.

I really enjoyed this film, although I did expect it to be more child orientated. My 6 yr old son was quite bored by it. A touching and magical film but more appropriate for older viewers.

A beautiful story of innocent love and the importance of friendship.

A charming period film about the friendship that develops between Barrie played by Dep and the widow Davis played by Winslet and her children, the result of which was the actual play Peter Pan. I thoroughly enjoyed this film which I didnt expect to and Dep, Winslet who looked fantastic and Hoffman were all fantastic. Well worth seeing.

Finding Neverland brings to life the true story of J.M.Barry's journey in finding the inspiration and real life characters for 'Peter Pan' . Victorian London is brought to life quite remarkably and wonderful theatre scenes of the production of Peter Pan with Dustin Hoffman playing the Theatre Owner with his usual flawless style .

I'd seen the trailers and wasn't sure if I'd like this one but I'm pleased to say I was very wrong ! It is a delightful tale of how Peter Pan came to be with fantastic performances by Johnny Depp & Kate Winslett with very good supporting roles from the children. A tear jerker but well worth watching.

It started off as a nice tale, and it kept me very interested. Then somewhere along the line, it grabs you and your emotionally hooked. There is no real love story, but I cried buckets at the end. A wonderful story. The lead as usual pulls off a fantastic performance, theres even a little bit of jack sparrow in there if you watch really closely. Loved it to bits.

Johnny Depp is usually great, but he is not an English gent, Kate Winslet is usually great, but she is no wilting violet, Julie Christie is usually great, but she is no grumpy dumpy. The mixture of fantasy with turn of the century realism didn't work. (With Moulin Rouge it did) The staged version of Peter Pan in the film was no better than a poor panto - did anyone do any research into the technology and stage skills available at the time? A Great Pity.

I'm no big fan of biopics - even those only loosely based on reality, mostly because I find them staid and too focused on factual events. 'Finding Neverland' avoids this because both script and direction stay true to Barrie's sentiment of belief and imagination. The set it stunning and there there seems to be a good feel for the period too. Winslet and Depp are good, but the real stars are the kids who give out some of the best child performances I've seen. OK, It's probably not a film for everyone - but even blokey blokes would get some brownie points from the girls without too much hardship. I also liked the commentary in the extra features, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the film enough to want to know more.

This is such a nice film, and acted superbly. Had smile on my face all the way through, and a good film to watch around this time of the year. Made me wish i was a kid again.

A wonderful film that moves along at a nice pace. All the actors are excellent, with partucular nods to Julie Christie and Dustin Hoffman in support roles. It is funny and moving in equal measure. Make sure you have the hankies handy though.

This had the potential to be a wonderful and engaging film, but it never quite got there. In the end the sadness and slow narrative overwhelmed the touching nature of an innocent friendship and a childrens fantasy world.

Well I watched this with my girlfriend and mother, I personally found it boring and dull not at all interesting, but my girlfriend and mother both really enjoyed it due to the factual content and I believe Johnny Depp helped with there viewing pleasure. My Girlfriend would have liked more story with the boys growing older as I think there was far more tradegy in there life, but i was glad it finished when it did.

What a film this was. From the outset the plot was scene was set, the cast superb and the storyline worth every second of viewing. This is a film I would highly recomend to others.

Captivating movie - toatlly out of the ordinary - will not be every-ones cup of tea but my partner and I both enjoyed it.

Those who found this boring or overdrawn simply have no imagination and do not deserve to see a film of this calibre. The story although not a true biopic of JM Barrie is a touching glimpse of how Peter Pan might have been created. I am astounded every time I watch a film with Jonny Depp on how versatile and how good an actor he is. His Scottish accent is impeccable. He completely draws you in and makes you believe he is that person. The fantastic Kate Winslett also doesn't disappoint, and the young actors playing the brothers show a lot of talent. Radha Mitchell plays her part as Barrie's wife beautifully in that we can feel sympathy for her. One word of warning - have a box of tissues for the ending. I won't give it away but it's very sad. If you believe in fairies, see this film.

A really wonderful inspiring story, beautifully played and directed. Probably the best film of that year.

I really enjoyed this film, it had a interesting storyline and flowed really well. Depp is very convincing as a Scot, given his woeful Irish accent in Chocolat, and Winslet works well with him. Its certainly a grown-up film that kids will enjoy rather than the other way round. There is one, unintentionally, funny bit in it when they show a village cricket match. We see someone get bowled, then someone appeals, the umpire says no and then the batsman walks. What is going on there?

This film tells the story of JM Barrie and how he found his inspriation for Peter Pan. Whilst Winslet and Depp are good in their roles, the children actors make this film slushy. Overall, the film dealt with emotional issues well, but lacked pace at times.

Was not really that keen on seeing this film but so glad I did, it was really good. About the life of Mr Barry the man that thought of peter pan. It is quite sad at the end and not what you expect. Excellent would recommend.

It’s a great Sunday afternoon film and I was quietly surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. It take a different look at the well know storey of peter pan and lets you meet the writer and his inspiration. Lovely film but a little sad in places

I am a huge fan of Peter Pan - i have read the book and seen all the films. This was something completely different but wonderful all the same!! I loved it so much and really enjoyed getting a different spin on the much loved story.

I really enjoyed this delightful film. It was a gentle and warm film made me concentrate. I knew nothing about J M Barrie, and so I learned a lot. I recommend it highly.

A really moving movie that was superbly enjoyable. Didn't know what to expect of it and love it.

Some may find it far too sentimental and soppy, but I found this film to be cinematically beautiful and a lovely story, based on the true story of how J.M Barrie came to write Peter Pan. Its wonderfully shot and has the genius casting of Dustin Hoffman as the theatre owner (don't forget that he played Captain Hook in Hook with Robin Williams). I will say, have a box of tissues ready - you'll need them for the ending!!

An interesting insight into the author of Peter Pan

A wonderful film that had me smiling and in tears thoughout, a truely lovely but sad story acted out by two great stars and some fantastic child actors, great cast all round. Real chemistry between Depp and Winslet. Bit soppy for some I suppose but had me spellbound.

A wonderful film, beautifully cast, Johnny Depp and Kate Winslett were marvellous, but they were outshone by the acting of the children. The film could so easily have been over sentimental, but it drew me straight in, and I have to say I wept at the ending. Superb!

I believe in neverland and I believe in fairies. This a very well made film and I absolutely love the theme of the film. We all gow up but please dont be a grown up!! Its amazing what the ability to see well beyond reality can produce, Jm Barrie has given the world the most wonderful story of all time Peter Pan!!

This was a lovely film. It seemed to get off to a slow start but it's worth staying with it, Depp was good and Winslett was her usual brilliant self. The story is a gentle paced love story, and the ending definitely brings a tear to the eye, so get your handkies ready. Excellent, well worth seeing

Oh my word, how I cried! But what a lovely film. Johnny Depp is forever the quirky gorgeous and loveable character, despite the fact that the character is not whiter than white. Not sure what the actually true story is (it says it's based on fact) - maybe I'll google it to find out - but this film made my Sunday afternoon & I gave my little boy and extra big hug when he came home later that day. Get the hankies out!

This was a lovely film about a timeless theme - the desire to return to the child within us, but ultimately it failed to quite deliver either emotionally or intellectually. There was a lot of near magic-realism in conjuring up the imaginary worlds and blending them with reality. This reminded me of Fanny and Alexander, though Bergman's film is ultimately a deeper and darker exploration of the same themes. I was moved - there is a killer line about Pan's real identity which caught the throat - but somehow I thought it lost the more complex elements of the story. Johnny Depp was excellent as ever, but he seemed more an 'idea' of J.M. Barrie rather than the real person and maybe that is why in the end, like believing enough in fairies, I could not believe enough in the film to keep it alive for too long in my mind. Still worth watching though and not the sentimenatl dross you would normally get out of the US of A!

Better than first expected, we would say its well worth seeing.

I've never seen a Johnny Depp film that I haven't enjoyed and this continues the trend, although it's a completely different role from some of his other films. The costumes and settings make this fictionalised account of Barrie's life a great film to watch and the acting, especially from Freddie Highmore, doesn't disappoint.

Very moving and loved it

I thought it was absolutely wonderful! At first I thought it was similar like Hook, another Peter Pan story but it was more about a man who want to do Peter Pan performance at the theatre and met a woman with some children who like to play in it and their mother was ill and very weak. Really good plot and it can be real emotion too if you're as sensible as I am! It worth a look!

i enjoyed watching this film my daughter was a little disappointed as she is only 5 and found it a little hard to follow but i thought it was great a real sad story a great rainy sunday afternoon film

What a lovely film, about James Barrie who wrote Peter Pan and the family of boys who inspired the story. Barries imagination was fantastic and Johnny Depp was brilliant as usual. When he plays pirates with the boys he appears to be Jack Sparrow for a while, coincidence that. Well worth watching.

This was a good film. It was a bit deep and meaningful. and the fantasy bits were strange. But overall, it was ok. My 8 year old was allowed to watch it with us and had to have bits explained and some other bits sailed over his head (fortunatly) - not a film that I would really recommend for kids having seen it. Not because there is anything particularly graphic in it, but more because they wouldnt understand and would maybe find it boring.

The most important thing to say about this film is that it concentrates on a whole number of issues surrounding the life of Barry, but thankfully does not go down the road of the purient 'nudge nuge' child molesting male that has a been a scenario that has arisen in recent years. Not only a good film but an interesting and imformative one.

Fantastic film about much loved author JM Barrie. Johnny's Scottish accent was very good, and Kate Winslet delivered her role very well. The star of course was Freddy Highmore who played Peter Davies, the inspiration for Peter Pan.

This film was full of magic of the imagination. It proves that you are never too young to play and use the power of your mind. It bought me to tears, and left me with a warm feeling in my heart. Memorable and fun, highly recommended whatever age you are.

This must have looked a tough film to make on paper, How the playwrite JM Barrie came up with the idea of peter pan through his imagination, but it works really well. Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are as great as ever, and the scenes of how Barrie comes up with ideas are excellently portrayed.

Looks and sounds like a childrens film but a bit deep for little ones. If your child liked Beatrix Potter they'll love this. Great for girls 8+. My 5 yr old son got bored very quickly but daughter thought it was ok.

Like the review title says - this is not a film for kids and really should not be categorized as a 'family film'. There is nothing that would upset children it is just is about adult themes not ones that kids will relate to. It's about J.M.Barrie NOT Peter Pan. That said, for adults, it is a good interesting film.

what a great magical movie! i loved every single part, great acting! this movie is for all ages young and old alike, very funny, it showed you how diffiernt we are today, we all have our own neverland and this just shows that it fine to be old but act young (being young at heart). never land for me is our dreams and the movie is a real family fav! Barrie the writer and creator of Peter Pan and Kate Winslet and Freddie Highmore were good as the mother and son he befriends who inspire him to write his greatest creation Peter Pan. The imagery was vivid and stunning and the depiction of J.M. Barrie's relationship with his 'adopted sons,' was touching and moving. Sometimes all we need to do in life at times is let our hearts feel young and never grow old and cynical just like Peter Pan. This is a good film which young and old alike will enjoy!

Based on a true story this visually delightful film takes you back to the innocence and joy of youth by focussing on JM Barrie's relationship with his neighbour's mother and children. As author of Peter Pan, the film shows how he got his inspiration from time spent with the family and games like cowboys and indians, and pirates he played with the children. One scene where he watches them getting ready for bed and imagines them flying out of the window is particularly poignant, as is one of the final scenes where the children's mother sees the magic of Neverland for herself.

I wasn't sure what to expect of this film - I knew it had had rave reviews but wasn't sure of the content. I have to say that I wasn't expecting to be as deeply moved as I was. Johnny Depp, as ever, is faultless and plays such a different role to his Captain Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean that it's a masterclass in acting. Kate Winslet compliments him perfectly though perhaps top honours should go to the little lad playing Peter (Freddie Highmore). What is most to the film's credit is that it manages to confront adult themes of loss and mortality with childhood innocence and playfulness. It must have been so difficult in these cynical times to leave no hint that J.M. Barrie had anything but completely innocent love of these children (consider Michael Jackson's trial) and yet you do absolutely and fully believe that there was nothing untoward going on here and that it's you with the problem if you think otherwise. The result is an endearing study of the warmth of humanity of J.M., his grasp on the harsh realities of life but his denial that that is all there is. Finding Neverland takes us to a place in ourselves that we vaguely remember from lost childhoods, and whilst never slipping into overwrought sentimentality, makes us all a little bit stronger knowing that place is there.

By the time I watched this, I had forgotten the synopsis, and it was far better than I expected! I am sure that this is a very worthy film, deserving of all the glowing reviews that have been written so far. Unfortunately, both my wife and I are hard of hearing and are forced to watch all films with subtitles showing. The film of itself would probably have been fine to watch, and probably very enjoyable. Regrettably, we were unable to follow the plot because although the dialogue was reflected accurately by the subtitles, there was non-stop narration/stage direction which was not subtitled. We were obliged to give up within 10 minutes. Some directors are too clever for their own good !

It's not often you stumble across a film like Finding Neverland, completely enchanting and magical. The story of JM Barrie and his writing of Peter Pan, this film is a delight to watch. Johnny Depp is wonderful as James Barrie and demonstrates what a diverse acting spectrum he has. Kate Winslet is super as Sylvia. A fabulous film - perfect for a cold sunday afternoon and one i will watch again and again, especially when in need of inspriation and enchantment.

I'd put off watching this because I thought it would be soft and sentimental and because I have never got what Peter Pan, the play, was about. In the end I got it for a family evening in. This film is special because the two leads are so strong and so affecting. It is worth watching for the power of their performances alone.

Any lover of the Peter Pan story will be fascinated by this charming film. Young and old in my family loved it, for different reasons. Even the most impatient of my kids stuck with it and let the whole thing unwind. Grown ups of course, could shed a tear as well!! The links in the play with the story itself and with real life are quite memorable. The magic grew as the film went on The kids stole the show from Depp and Co, which is as it should be. A thoroughly good film.

Watched this as a family and everyone enjoyed it. A little bit of fairytale does the soul good!

A somewhat 'rose colour' tint to it but enjoyable nonetheless. Nothing to really talk about here. Good performances and a good story that didn't try to be anything other than what it was-a tender love story of a man and a family. Sad to see the wife gets short thrift but I guess you have to give the plot a bit more of an edge.

This film has a good mix of J M Barrie biography and the magic of Peter Pan. Great performances by Johnnie Depp as J M Barrie and Julie Christie as the disapproving Mrs du Maurier. This is an excellent family film.

Very watchable film, though chacterisation of EM Barry a bit weak-we never knew what really made him tick, whether he really fancied the mother all along and the children were just an excuse etc.

I really loved this film, its so well made and you instantly fall in love with the characters. I cried almost all the way through as the film is so endearing. I would certainly reccomend it for adults and a little older children as my 4 year old wasnt interested at all.

Johnny Depp is superb in his role as Barrie. Imaginative and very touchingly portrayed.

if you like j depp you will like this top story with a bit of maybe truth to it me and my kids liked it more so myself.

Very good, thought johnny Depp played a different roll and he played it well. the whole cast was good and the working between members worked well. A movie just for children from 5 to 95 as just like the story we never grow up.

good film but audio description unuseable because it's much louder than the dialogue - either you can't hear the dialogue or you're deafened by the audio description

Loved this film having seen a previous attempt in the past that was not quite so appealing to me. Having written this I really thought the ending was a wee bit mushy after such splendid acting etc,

This film has got a good story line but we found it a little bit long winded.

i loved this film, i think it was so sad at the end i nearly cryed. the way that everythin thing he did with the boys he fund different ways of how to make a play with it all it was amazing. n the fact that he got so atached with the family as well makes me think there is always some one out there that will look after.

Finding Neverland is the story of how Peter Pan came to be written. It's a terribly sad story that really explores what it's like to be a child or have the imagination of a child. I think we all forget what it's like; this film brings some of it back. The photography is fantastic and the characters wonderfully portrayed in what could easily have been a flop. If you're a fan of children's literature or biographies you'll love this movie.

This is a fantastic film, it has an amazing cast and is funny and sad in all the right places. If you like Jonny Depp and Kate Winslet then watch it.

Wonderful film. Johny Depp absolutely brilliant and a great supporting cast arond him. Gives you a lovely feeling afterwards and you might need a tissue or two!

A classic J Depp movie, captivating as usual! If you like the weird and wackiness of Depp then you will enjoy this movie. Good effects, humour, happiness and sadness. Kate Winslet also starrs and it is just as great as Depp in the movie, they make a good partnership and the connection is emanated beyond the screen.

Thougth this film was an excedllent period piece. Good acting, set and really liked the fact that it was based on a true story. Would recommend this film.

I watched this film with my daughter and we really enjoyed it. As one of the most famous childrens tales and watched over and over again the story of Peter Pan is something that most of us remember. This film was different because it explains where J M Barrie found his insipation for the story as well as detailing some of his own life. We found it fascinating and funny and sad too, but I won't say any more because I don't want to spoil it for people who have not seen it. All I can say is for those grown ups who still believe in fairies and those of you that want a trip back through your own childhood again ( the nice bits ) it's well worth watching.

It was a good film! Children was amazed with magic when there was no TV or no cinemas. But I can't remember the film which I last watched about five years ago!

It really is. You won't name too many modern films that are emotional but not sentimental, sweet but not cheesy, and romantic without any reference to sex. This film has it all and more. The main character JM Barrie (Depp), a famous Scottish playwright, is struggling to find inspiration for his next work, what with his marriage unfulfilling and his last play a complete flop. A chance encounter brings the Davies boys into his life and heart and art - and their mother, Sylvia (Winslet). A strong-minded young widow, she's bringing up a bunch of boys who are still broken-hearted with their father's untimely death. She finds support and deep respectful affection in him, as well as a worthy man figure for her sons. He meets admiration and approval without criticism and inspiration without end, but most of all - his creativity finds an outlet, this family needs his talents! Every day with Barrie is an adventure for the boys - playing new games, achieving new goals, learning more about themselves, these children find an adult who shares their fantasies as if they were his own. Breath-taking performances from Depp and Winslet. You will never guess if these two are simply very close friends or they feel more for each other. The film would be nothing without the Davies boys, their tyrannical grandmother (but since this part is played by Julie Christie, you find yourself feeling for the character at the end), beautiful scenery and Depp's Scottish accent. On the surface, 'Finding Neverland' tells you how Peter Pan was created. But deep down, it's about finding neverland where you can be together with the people that matter if the real world is not ready for your union yet. The film is not biographical, the directors play with the actual facts but not overly so - just enough to make this sad story an uplifting and inspiring experience. It makes you feel good about people. It touches your heart and leaves you enchanted.

I really loved this film the first time I watched it, it is such a lovely story. Always great to see Johnny Depp and he plays the part beautifully. Made me cry the second time round too.

I wasn't sure what to expect but i thoroughly enjoyed this film. I found it very interesting throughout.

This is def a Sunday afternoon film. Really lovely viewing and leaves you with a feel good factor. Not action packed but easy going. Both my partner and I enjoyed it.

I was surprised at first to find this film so engaging and so delicate at the same time! The story line is simple but very well described without unnecessary sentimentality and the two main characters exquisitely interpreted by J. Deep and K. Winslet are likeable and realistic. This film is a fusion of reality and fantasy, a recipe that is typical of every fairy-tale such as Peter Pan, where morals are given without a judgemental tone.

I found it hard to believe the enthusiasm of so many of the very many reviewers of Finding Neverland. Have my partner and I lost touch with our inner child? We lasted ten minutes so the tissues remained in the bathroom but oh dear, what a gloopily smug lot of unconvincing tosh. But we are clearly in a minority.

this film wasnt what i expected. A very slow start to what seemed a long film, rented thinking this would be a great family film but was dissapointed. The only highlight was the ending because its the only bit tht really made any sense.

Depp is unrecognisable from his more showy roles. Indeed his does very little as the unhappy author of Peter Pan, but he does it beautifully. His incredible performance is really the only reason to watch this gently told tale of creativity, friendship, loss and childhood.

Lovely film. I had read an article about J.M Barrie in the papers a while back, and hadn't realised he had had such a sad childhood, as mentioned in the film. It often seems the case that the greatest literary writers have often had traumatic childhoods, and this seems to bring out their very genius. Although i never read his works as a child, I can quite see why he and the likes of Michael Jackson would want to escape to Never land. Both had childhoods they were desperate to escape from.

From watching the trailer to this film, I expected good things. Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are two of my favourite actors. However, I found this film quite disappointing. I found it very hard to get into, and couldn't find myself believing in the characters, even after watching a good half hour of it. I found the acting quite disjointed, and quite dull, as if the people weren't really 'living' it. I don't think it was the fault of the actors, maybe the script writing just wasn't as good as it could have been. Still, that's the good thing about lovefilm, you can get some really great films, with great stories that stay with you for ages, and then other ones like this one that just weren't what you expected.

really sweet film with Johnny depp playing a fab Peter Pan. Great for families or kids. Enjoyed the gentleness of it compared to most films I watch these days!

Is he the best actor of his generation? He certainly seems to be one of the most versatile performers. A great film with a wonderful supporting cast.

I thought that the beginning was very slow, compared to the other Johnny Depp films, but once it got going, the middle and the end was fantastic. I loved it. Cried my eyes out!!!! Go Johnny!!!!

I loved this film. Johnny Depp showed himself to be a really classy actor in this, showing someone who can do stuff other than the usual weird comic parts (Willy Wonka, Captain Jack). Kate Winslett is always good. I loved the plot & thoroughly enjoyed seeing the birth & creation of a much loved story. I don't know how much of it was based on fact, but I really enjoyed watching it from start to finish.

I heard many great things about this movie; mainly about Johnny Depp and his Scottish accent. However I was suprised at how much I enjoyed it. The movie is not historically accurate however I enjoyed the changes that were made. Peter annoyed me at times and I didn't like his character at all. I am not a fan of Freddie Highmore's acting, especially in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In this movie he just broods throughout and he gets no sympathy out of me. Overall though, a very good movie which made me shed a tear at the end; Johnny Depp was perfect, as always. Definately watch it if you have not already.

This was a great portrayal of a friendship blossoming between one man, and a widow and her 3 sons. It shows how peoples perceptions of something can make it look ugly and sick. Whereas in reality it is beautiful and innocent. The acting is of the standard we expect from Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp, and the 3 boys are marvelous. It is a great way to show how the use of ones imagination can really bring joy to suffering, and how friendships are not all about the sexual and the depraved, oh and it is a visually stunning film also.
