Spaced  (1999)

This is one of the best sitcoms I have ever come across! In fact it is the best. The only bad thing about it is that there are only two series. Spaced can be watched and re-watched and you will still not get bored. The script, directing, and production is wonderfully slick. Quite surreal at times but not overly ridiculous, fantastic collection of characters. Suitable for most ages, and will appeal to most types of humour.

Spaced is packed with humorous movie references, clever witticisms, sarcasm, pathos, clever twists that you don't see coming, hilarious slapstic moments, inteligent writing and pretty much every comedy trick in the book. For Simon Pegg, Jesicca Stephenson and Nick Frost, this is where it all began! It is where Shaun began to shoot the Dead and where the Fuzz became Hot. It is the sort of humour you come back to after a first showing and still laugh out loud at. In fact, I am on my fifth viewing in two years (which is a lot for me - I usually watch a film/series twice at most). Spaced is by far the funniest thing that has come out of the British comedy stable for an exhorbitantly long time. I always show this to people who haven't seen it yet and gain perverse satisfaction that they like it as well. In much the same way, I urge you to see this (and stick it through to at least the 4th episode as the humour becomes funnier as the series matures). Watching both Spaced 1 and 2 also makes a second viewing more pleasurable as you begin to notice things that you missed the first time around and thus gain more pleasure from the 2nd viewing. Any series that can make a dog, bamboo and lightning a hilarious cliffhanger ending has my vote on any day of the week!

I urge all comedy enthusiasts to watch Spaced. Comedy just does not get much better than this. It is, without question, essential viewing.

Myself and my friends are huge fans of the series, and are compulsive quoters. Being a Spaced expert/nerd, I was prepared for an airy fairy documentary that barely scratched the surface of a programme which is such an essential element of my pop culture conscious. I wasn't expecting such detailed analysis of the intricacies of both series, such a level of cast/crew participation and such original presentation.

The documentary is essential viewing for hardcore Spaced fans. It features the emminantly likable cast/crew, a number of fans and some questionable B-celebs (some of whom I'd have prefered not to have to hear from). It even features a small vision of Tim & Daisys' futures... something that will no doubt have fans misty eyed in nostalgia.

A great treatment and perfect final word on one of Britain's best loved comedies.

Not Funny....Boring...need I go on? (I actually wrote a full review on here, went to check what a 'spoiler' was then went back to this page and the review I had written had gone....! This, therefore is a summary of that original...which was far longer, inciteful and helpful to those who are thinking of renting this...!)

Littered with Pop culture references and unashamedly geeky. Having spent a fair bit of time dossing around and sharing flats with a variety of weird and wonderful people, I found Spaced pretty easy to relate to. It perfectly portrays the lives of people who are fast approaching 30 but still haven't found a direction in life. If you've seen Shaun of the Dead and liked it, you've really got to see this.

A perfect reflection of life flat-sharing in London. I think what touched a nerve, and what touched my funny-bone so completely about this series of Spaced is that they seemed so much like me and my friends, as scary as that may sound.

This won't be your kind of comedy if you're after some gut-clutching humour. On the other hand if you like your 'observations on life', if you like to laugh at the absurd and at yourself, then this is a must.

Spaced has to be up there with my favourite Sit-Coms: Blackadder, Red Dwarf, The Simpsons etc etc. But unlike the others listed above very few but the most cult immersed individuals know Spaced. I have yet to meet a person who, having seen Spaced doesn't, at the very least like Spaced. Many who know it love Spaced and in the style of Monty Python fans can recite at least a few of their favourite lines. Set in North London, Daisy and Tim have recently been made homeless and as such decide to pretend to be a couple in order to attain a great flat in Chalk Farm (near Camden.) Other people in their building include their Landlord Marsha who's (pubescent daughter despite viewers never seeing is rather vocal on why she hates her mother) and Brian (a modern artist who has a “something going on” with Marsha). This may make for a rather mundane Sit-Com synopsis but the Cult Comic, Movie, TV, Game etc etc. references and British blueprint strange comedy is just.... great! Also the inspiration for Shaun of the Dead… the Performance Art Episode in particular! Just trust me. please Please PLEASE! Rent, Enjoy, Recommend! You really will love it!

'Spaced' is perhaps the ultimate reference for in-jokes. It is often quoted and being a fan brings something of cult status to anyone who proclaims themselves as such. I can certainly see why it was so popular and it seems to have stood the test of time, because I came to it fresh and found nothing that dated it in any way. The acting is very good, there are some really fine turns from Pegg, Stevenson and, indeeed, all the supporting cast, who have all gone on to fame in their own rights. The direction though, is inspired. Edgar Wright tries every trick in the book, and some he apparently invented, to give 'Spaced' its defining wacky and surreal feel. The homages to movies and other comedies are so numerous you need to watch it over and over to even hope to pick most of them out. Even the pictures on the walls pay homage to various films and are the source of in-jokes. Why then do I not give it five stars? Well, as much as I like it, and I will be buying the special edition released in July 2006 so I really do, it did not make me laugh all the way through. There are lags in the humour, as the surreal direction and strangeness take over and as wacky as this is, the point of a comedy sit-com is to make you laugh and when it is not doing that, no matter how weird and wacky it is, it is not living up to its remit. I appreciate that this is due to its work in progress status, for all concerned, we are dealing with a genre defining comedy here and I accept there will be misses as the hit is honed to perfection, but there are still misses where there is no comedy and only strangeness. 'Spaced' certainly deserves its cult status though and I forgive it the experimental weirdness, because it is a work of genius in its own right that progressed to the excellence of 'Shaun of the Dead'. I cannot wait to see the second series of 'Spaced' and I wholeheartedly recommend this first series.

This disc arrived before the disc with series two - I am really glad that I kept it to watch until later and would warn everyone that you don't want to watch this until after seeing every episode.

I'm not sure that I needed to know quite as much information as this very detailed documentary contains and at times it was a bit cliquey but it was worth hiring for the last one minute long scene which shows what happened to Tim & Daisy later on.

However I recommend that people who haven't watched Spaced before should:
a - put disc one and two on their rental queue immediately as it is a brilliant series
b - if you enjoy them, put disc three in the queue afterwards

And they say sit-comes are dead. Spaced breaths new life into the genre making it a laugh from start to finish. 4 stars - 5 if you're a sci-fi freak (like me!) and can get all the in jokes and Star Wars quotes.

This is a brilliantly funny and inventive series, and the DVD's are packed with extras such as entertaining Cast & Crew Commentaries and lots of out takes...
The show itself was a breath of fresh air, taking a very self aware approach to sitcom, and with TV, Film and other homages every other scene.
Shot very slickly each episode is fast paced and very very funny - definitely recommended.

Spaced is an incredibly funny, witty, charming ode to all movies (e.g Star Wars) and occasionally a broad swipe at movies(e.g The Phantom Menace!) All this while supporting it's basic premise of a couple pretending to be more than friends to rent a flat in the house where the Landlady, Marsha also lives.

Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright followed this up with Shaun Of the Dead. There is much that is similar in style and humour. If you have seen 'Shaun' but not this, I urge you to rent. If 'Shaun' was your bag you will love this. I did. Also enjoy playing 'spot the cameo'.

Last christmas my boyfriend said he wanted this box set for christmas, i had never heard of it but i bought it anyway. then my boyfriend got ill & and i gave it to him early to cheer him up.... i sat down thinking 'god i am going to hate this'.......... 2 days later we had watched every single episode! FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC!!!!!!

For me Spaced is best sitcom in recent years. It's the story two twenty something flat hunters, Tim a would-be comic artist and Daisy a " still to be published" journalist, who decide to team up and pretend to be a professional couple a la Green Card in order to get their hands on a flat from Marsha the always intoxicated landlady. Tim's best friend is Mike, who never manager to get into the real army and has never quite got over it. Daisy best friend is Twist who would like to think she works in fashions, if you count a launderette as the fashion industry. Neighbour Brian is an artist who works in "pain, despair, terror" ... "But not watercolours". Spaced lives in it own surreal world, there are many homage's of various cult film and TV references (as diverse as star wars to 70's kids programme heads and tails) which makes it a joy to watch again and again, You'll always spot something new with each viewing, which makes it a joy to watch again and again.

Hilariously funny. Quirky characters and brilliant performances all round. Lots of people have complained that they only made two series. Personally I'm glad to be left wanting more. It would have been a shame if they'd spoilt it by carrying on until it died a natural death, as is the case with most sitcoms. Both series are equally good, but the second series does thankfully build on the relationships between the characters rather than just re-hashing what has gone before. The bonus disk is also worth watching, even if it is a little self-congratulatory in places.

Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson @ their comedic best - this was the origanal series from which Shaun of the dead was created. Laugh out loud - if you don't then you really are a zombie. Try and spot how many films are 'spoofed' through out and revel in the genius that is SPACED!

I've always been a fan of Black Books and other lesser known british comedy actors such as Bill Bailey and this series was a real treat. I'm sure everyone can see part of themselves in one of the characters and the very clever writing creates situations very true to life but also ridiculously funny. If your average normal everyday life was a movie, it would be spaced!

Relive some of the best moments of series 1 and 2. Enjoy seeing your favourite characters again and the people who play them. This CD contains a feature length 'making of'. It digs deep into the minds of the creators and explores why they did it in the first place. Join them as they revisit some of the places and faces that made the show what it is. I enjoyed seeing the real people behind some of the shows other interesting characters and the affect the show has had on people. The feature is fast paced and entertaining from start to finish. If you are a Spaced fan this is really worth watching, if not just so you can find out why they haven't made a third series.

Like many others I missed this when it was orginally screened. Then I watched one re-run episode on E4 and decided to catch up on both series. I'm now hooked and like not wanting a good book to end I have held back from watching the last two episodes (will I ever find out what happened to Mike in the tree?). Spaced contains loads of little references to popular movie culture, clubbing, video games etc. that will either having rolling on the floor with laughter or you simply won't get. And chances are, if you're not in the 25 to 35 age bracket you won't get all the gags. Bill (part man part troll) Bailey also makes a couple of cameo appearances and through getting into Spaced I've now found out that I missed another 3 series sitcom that BB was in called 'Black Books' that I'm going to rent. Finally, if you're a fan of Star Wars the Phantom Menance... I'm sure they don't really mean it.

Everything about Spaced is simply fantastic. After watching the series a few times, you begin to notice other little delightful quirks about the series. For instance, the fact that this show, like anything else Simon and Jessica have been involved in, is so genuinely nice! They are very obviously real life friends, but are also very obviously fantastic actors because it's actually heart warming at times to watch how they get on, and the opposite when everyone nearly splits up. It's so refreshing to see a sitcom where people are actually nice to each other, and act like proper friends. The jokes and references are all fantastic, and intelligently done - this is a far cry from jokes which are dragged out too long, or made too obvious, or pointed out too much. They simply allow the joke to develop and the viewer either gets it, or doesn't - no more attention is ever drawn, and it doesn't even ruin it if you don't get it. Sheer genius in every respect.

As Fantastic as the first series, with excellent parodies ranging from Pulp Fiction, to Star Wars, to everything in between!

At 1 hour and 20 minutes this documentary is a tad too long. But, like many sensible people, I am a great admirer of the people behind Spaced and it's great to see this retrospective look at the two series.

If you have watched and enjoyed Shawn of the Dead, then you must watch Spaced, Simon Pegg and Jessica Stephenson's predecessing comedy gold. Full of clever film and TV in-jokes and great characters who I think we can secretly all relate to, this has to be my favourite sitcom ever.

If you have ever been a student, living in London and are now aged in your thirties this series will probably appeal to you. Brilliant oddball characters, cool plots and laughs all the way through. Comedy genius.

Not having seen Spaced on Channel 4 before I was extremely entertained by the first series and the second has got me completely hooked!

Very funny scenes which make reference to well known films and more hilarious scenes when the friends have their nights out! Watch it I'm sure you will enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

If you belong to the extinct race of the 90's clubber, you will appreicate and remeniss about certain aspects of this film. It made me and friends feel good about the attitude of the whole experience. Priorities are up the wall, and characters are well known, usual suspects and whoever wrote this smutty titaltion has meet these people on the streets of london. (Possible trying to avoid them too...) Great acting and refreshing tiresome dialogue. Great to chill out watching on a sunday afternoon or a thursday night. It had me smiring and giggling.

Believe it or not this is the first time I’d seen this series and good-lordy-lord did i enjoy it. It’s well observed, all the characters had aspects in them, which I could relate to, and sees in other people. What I enjoyed most was the homage to film and popular culture which creped into each episode.

Ah, these guys are fantastic. such a shame they didnt make any more of these. Great characters, and really off the wall humour, nicely filmed. Intelligent & unusual.

Just watched series one - it's okay but I've already seen series 2 which is much better! If you rent disc 1, then make sure you watch disc 2 before deciding whether you like it or not! That said they're both still class, as always with Simon Pegg, and have some great film references - as long as you've seen the film in question! Definitely worth renting.

I like most 'alternative comedy' type TV shows (eg Peep show etc), but I just could not 'get' this....

I absolutely love Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson and so as you've guessed it I am a big fan of Spaced.... Witty, funny and the adorable pair what else do you want!!! Spaced first series breaks you in gently, on how they met and came to move in togeather. It also introduces you to the other wacky characters in their life.... FAB!!!!

Classic Pegg. He seems a genuinely nice guy, so you cut him some slack, despite the fact that he continues to serve up only above average 'British' comedy time and time again. OK, I'm the best part of ten years late giving 'Spaced' a go. It's alright. A mish-mash of pop culture references and sit-com, with dollops of weirdness, largely provided by the always excellent Mark Heap - a hugely underated comedy actor (check him out in 'Green Wing'. Faultless). Stevenson gives us 'Dawn French for the nineties', not a bad thing, but not the most original either. Frost does what he does best. I'll give the second series a go and see if it builds on the first. See what I mean about cutting Pegg some slack?

Drug fuelled late nineties living to a T. Playstations, pills, spliffs, dead end jobs, housemates from hell and zombies, yes zombies. In short, a series that most 20-30 year olds will feel unconfortably familiar with.

After seeing most of the first series when it aired on TV I thought it was worth a second, closer view. I was right, it is certainly worth the cult classic tag, but is looking eerily dated. Perhaps this is because everyone else has caught up. The 'cut to fantasy' technique pioneered in a very British way here is now abused by most big budget US sitcoms (Scrubs, Malcom in the Middle etc.).

Spaced is refreshing and quirky rather than being downright hilarious, the characters are slightly far-fetched but mostly believable (except Nick Frost in his trademark 'Danger Incoming Attack!' survivalist mode). The central non-romance of the lead characters lends a bit of nonchalant charm to proceedings (think Tim and Dawn) with Simon Pegg leading the way with a refreshing master class in under-acting.

The comedy of Spaced lies in its references to popular culture and as such is bound to run the risk of looking dated, but if you like Alan Partridge, The Office, Brass Eye, Royale Family you'll have no complaints because Spaced is the younger, tripier equal of these comedy greats.

The highlight of Series One is the extended nightclub scene. Never has the chemically enhanced 90's club experience been done so effortlessly and with such affection, avoiding all the usual cliche's -'my work here is done....'

A somewhat dark and ecletic mix of comedy with Shaun of the Deads star and Cheryl out of the Royle family pretending to be partners so that they can rent a flat in the london suburbs after their efforts singly are useless.
They wind up living in a somewhat surreal household where the mad artist from downstairs and the Mortisha like landlady from upstairs gel together to make life somewhere to the right of normal.An excellent watch for someone who wants something a little different.

I'm not really sure why there are three disks for this since the original DVD release fitted onto one. It may be the new version including extras on the third disc, which included a rather in-depth documentary - but you must 'skip to the end' for some important information!

Well, I'm biased but for me and my peer group this is probably the best, definitive comedy series, summing up the twenty-something generation in a way no series had done before or since. The characters and storylines are great; no canned laughter, the absence of which is often the sign of something that's actually funny; and stylistically beautiful.

If you've not seen it before, give it a try, you'll like it or hate it, but at least you've had a taste. If you have seen it before, you'll know what I mean. And why don't you own it already? Well?

Spaced is truely one of a kind. Daisy and Tim, two mid-to-late twenty year olds, both find themselvs homeless. But fate looks upon them, a great flat, ?90 a week, only drawback, married couple only. No prob, they pretend. Spaced is about friendship and films, it has some of the greatest comical moments I've seen, and I've seen alot. If you think it's full of referneces, you only spotted half of them. Strongly recomended to anyone who enjoyed Shaun of the Dead. Likewise, Shaun of the Dead is strongly recomened to anyone who enjoyed Spaced. ShaunOTD is made by the same bunch of people, for all who don't know.

I really enjoyed Shaun of the Dead and so I was encouraged to watch Spaced. I did and I thought it was OK... then I watched it again 3 months later and laughed my a*s off. The comedy totally relies on you having empathy for the characters and really likeing them so it just gets funnnier the more you watch it, and the more you feel part of their insular group of friends. Worth renting, but you might need to be prepared to rent it again in a few months to really get to the joy.

A joy from beginning to end. The final episode will make you want to throw your television out of the window for the simple reason that there is no more Spaced to watch, and that nothing displayed on its screen in the future will possibly be able to match the zen- like purity of this beautiful, beautiful story. I'd watch it a few times first though, because you'll notice new things every time, and the pathos as much as the gags will keep you coming back.

having loved Shaun of the dead I wasn't sure that I would enjoy this as I was afraid it would colour the characters portrayed in Shaun. However the mad mix of sitcom and movie parody that made Shaun so good is evident in this programme. There are too many moments to mention and even if your not a sci-fi geek or a robot wars fan you will constantly find the references and jokes hilarious. I even discovered they had used the building I work in as a set for one of the programs.

I like many others who have submitted reviews here missed out on Spaced when it first hit our screens on Channel 4. I rented this DVD purely on the basis of finding out what all the fuss was about - boy was I glad I did!! Fantastic comedy - all the things I'm looking for in a sitcom. Without it being like 'Vicar of Dibley' for example and being too homely and clever for its own good - it's just brilliant.

Not tons of bonus features on this bonus disk - but the feature length doc about this very funny sit-com is well worth watching if you are a Spaced fan. Also included is a montage of clips from the show which is good, and cast and crew bios.

This is a fantastic sitcom with a truly likeable set of characters and extremely bizzare plots. The acting is strong and character development adds some depth to the collection of misfits. The real icing on the cake though is the film references, particularly the recreation of the final scene from Empire Strikes Back. The sound track is also a gem. Keep an eye out for the mash up of Camisra 'Let me show you' and the A-Team theme tune. I think the only thing that has prevented this from a achieving greater popularity is that it's appeal maybe somewhat limited to the 25 to 30 age bracket.

Until not very long ago I lived in a shared house in North London. At the time I caught a few episodes of 'Spaced', thought it was great but never saw the whole lot. But now that I've settled into middle-aged married obscurity in the west country, watching all of 'Spaced' was a wonderful blast of foetid Zone 3 air. Both series are fantastic, but episode 5(?) of the first - the clubbing one - is a masterpiece of televisual theatre. The character of Tyres really exists out there too, complete with drug-induced mood swings and Ardoyne accent. Where are you Rory Fenton when we need you?! Recommendation - watch Spaced back to back with 'Peep Show' - also brilliant.

Another triumph for Channel-4's television comedies. Spaced is a tough competitor for the likes of 'Black Books' and 'Teachers' (although not as well known), with its witty, sarcastic and brilliantly performed mix of bizarre comedy and film parodies. No doubt a must-have for lovers of 'Shaun of the dead', with the insanely funny Simon Pegg as the lead in both. Rent it, then buy it!!!!

I love this series. It is surreal and unusual at times. This series has much more abstract humour and much more of 'Mike' than series one which I really enjoyed. Great fun, very silly, very enjoyab;e throughout.

I am a HUGE fan of Spaced, i love it! One of my favourite comedies ever. If your looking for just pure comedy and not interested in the facts of the stars or how they made the series then dont bother with the bonus disc and just stick the actual show. Interestting and enjoyable all the same.

This serie is great. Get the whole thing, it is really worth it. Don't expect anything intellectual. It is a mix of science fiction: you do wonder who the alien is in this group of people, and silly funny hysterical comedy. It is about 2 people, complete strangers moving in together but who have to lie to the landlady by telling her they are a couple. You will see the crazy downstairs artist neighbour, the crazy landlady and her daughter (well, you will hear her) and the main characters friends. My favourite episode is the one when they go clubbing... This is a piece of real life. Unbelievable!

It's easy to see where the inspiration for Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz came from watching Spaced. Like most alternative comedies, it's not laugh-out-loud funny, but it is highly entertaining and the cast are brilliant in their respective characters. Rent Season Two as well!

I remembered this from when it was first on television and rented it as I remembered it being extremely funny. However, what was funny when I was in my early twenties just isn't anymore. It has aged really badly and unfortunately most of it just isn't funny...although Nick Frost's scenes nearly save the day and are the stuff of comedy legend!

if you are a film mad person and like hot fuzz wit the shinning and resedent evil(soz about spelling) this is so funny . had such a laff watching it

I thought Shaun of the Dead was an okay film, not as good as everyone raved about it. I thought I'd give Spaced a go, and I was more than impressed. It is so much better than Shaun of the Dead and is a real modern classic.

This is one of the best written comedys ever! Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson ae amazing and vey talented, its just a shame there were only to series.. they made up for it however with both Shaun of the dead and Hott Fuzz, but there was not enough of Jessica in either of those! still Spaced will always be a cult classic!!

I love this sitcom!! I'm not going to rent it as I already own it, but I felt the urge to say how I feel about it on here anyway! I must have watched it so many times and yet I still laugh just as hard. It's funny from start to finish and I found I could really identify with certain aspects of the characters. I'm sure most people will have had an experience similar to one addressed in SPACED. It's one of the most original comedies I've ever seen, pacey and downright hilarious in places and I wish they'd done a third series! I would highly recommend renting, if not buying, this DVD as you'll want to watch it over and over again!

In my opinion, Simon Pegg can't do much wrong, but this really is an amazing series and I miss it. Subtle, and very clever comedy,. which I think accurately reflects many people who end up sharing. If you love Shaun Of Tne Dead and Hot Fuzz, you will like this :)

spaced is one of the best british comedy shows ever made if you are between the age of 14 to 29 it is a must see. cult classic

I can't really say if you would get offended by this film, but its a comedy that works on laughing at the unfortunate through timing. It very funny, and isn't offensive just very silly, but I can't work out if they are supposed to be offending anyone or just playing on a nations (UK) humour.

Watched these back to back on a rainy Sunday afternoon - perfect viewing - really funny and well written. Highly recommended

watched this as missed it when it aired on channel 4 and i am a big fan of shaun of the dead/ hot fuzz so wanted to see how it all began. It is an extremely quirky comedy- some laugh out loud moments but not quite as funny as i had hoped - pegg in particular is always very watchable and amusing just dive in expecting too much -nice and odd but not quite top draw.

I was away living in america when this was hitting the UK screens. Not that 've had a chance to catch up on it I'm gutted they didnt makemore. Not much story to each of the episodes which doesnt take away from them being well written, original pieces of comic genius.

I watched the first series on TV some time ago and thought it was extremely entertaining. This second series does not disappoint - well worth a look, especially if you're a fan of Simon Pegg. The film references on the DVD make it even more interesting to watch.

Great way to get into the mind of some of the cream of British comedy - writing, acting and editing. This is a great sitcom which echoes your student days and feels like putting a blanket around you, sitting you on the sofa with a cuppa and a pack of biscuits. A real treat.

I remembered Spaced from when it was first on Channel 4 and I loved it then. It took me back to my days as a student living in shared houses. Jessica Stevenson (Hynes) and Simon Pegg's scripts are very funny and the ensemble acting is top notch. This is what TV comedy is supposed to be like. Funny from start to finish.

I didn't catch this show first time around but I really enjoyed this DVD. I remember seeing Simon Pegg doing backup on the Bill Bailey show and now of course he's a star in his own right with films like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz so it was interesting to see the in between bits. I found Spaced a good example of current British comedy talent and wll definitely be buying the DVD box set soon.

Like most people who love Spaced for all the reasons previous reviewers have mentioned I already own the DVDs. However, I had to see the extras documentary included in this special edition so I used amazon rentals.

The extras disk is ace! There's a fun music video that uses loads of the shows dialogue but it's the documentary that you have to see.

Simon, Jessica and Edgar tour the locations and chat about all you could want them to in that friendly banter style that works so well. All the other memorable characters/actors chat about the Spaced days. There's also some great before spaced clips from shows that Simon and Jessica worked on.

It's weird to watch and think of how people like Bill Bailey and David Walliams weren't as famous as they are now when they did Spaced.

Best of all on the end of the documentary is a lovely moment that's a bit of wish fulfilment for fans still praying for a 3rd series.

So, basically if you have resisted buying the previous version of the DVDs and were thinking of getting them now I would get this Special Edition if I was you.

Before Shaun of the Dead & Hot Fuzz there was this, Spaced my all time favourite sitcoms, if your a fan of films this series is for you, plenty of homages to the greatest films out there, whats great about this is that if you havnt seen the films they pay homage to its still funny! Yes there maybe only two series but I think it's enough because if they kept going on it would have turn rubbish, like most sitcoms nowadays. Anyways a great series to put a smile on your face 5 stars!

This show is just comic genius i need not say any more, but for GenerAl this is no wannabe Boosh as this came far before it and believe it or not Pegg is not pyschic or in possession of a time machine and if you were a fan of Pegg like you claim you would not make such a statement as you would understand the genius. Anyone who has seen Shaun of the Dead and not Spaced first i would recommend watching this without SOTD on you mind as all you will do is look for simalarities between the two which will do Spaced no justice at all. I watched this on channel 4 when it first came out and five years on it is too funny. I loved it so much i joined the fan club on FaceBook, sad but true. The whole cast are genius and i thats a word i rarely use.

I caught some of these frist time round and after Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz decided to watch these. Some of these are very good, other not so. The jokes, work about 60/40. Some good stuff, but a lot seems like trying to hard, and some of the characters don't work well (Brian, Marsha). Many ideas in this you can see ended up the films, and the many of the film references are funny, and you keep trying to guess them, as the episodes are full of them. Not as funny as the films they've done, but still worthwhile to watch. And better than Channel 4 recent sitcoms.

I loved this series first time round. I just had to rent it out again. What it gave me was the beauty of hindsight regarding Pegg. It is quite obvious to see his writing talents at this early stage to what would lead to a very successful career in the movies. All that aside, this is a very funny home grown comedy set that will have you in stitches. Rent it. rent it now.

Need I say more? Hoping series 2 is as good.

Episode one was a rollercoaster of surreal moments and sharp wit. Unfortunately the remainder of this sitcom did not live up to the start. The only one that came close for me was episode five, which seemed to revert, just a little, to the spark of episode one. First episode introduces all of the main characters and weaves them into the storyline leaving the watcher high on laughter. As you watch this, it becomes clear that the two writers/actors have hit on something big, sharp and new. Unfortunately as this sitcom progressed I cared less and less about the fortunes of both charactures as the sharp surreal wit was replaced by, well - a pretty average sitcom about two strangers living together. If it wasn't for the gloriously awful landlady and her 'friend' Brian, I would not have made it to the end. Save yourself some time: hire it out, watch episodes 1 & 5, and then return it for a better watch!

I had heard people mention this for a while and never bothered to rent it as I am lazy! But, people at work were talking about it only a few days ago, and I didn't want to be left out. This dvd was brilliant! Amazing writing, very quirky sense of humour. You get 'sucked in' to the characters. They seem very real somehow. Basic story... 2 strangers hook up to rent a flat together as the landlady only wants a 'professional couple'. The series then follows what happens to them and the comedy that ensues. Look out for memorable parts such as 'Patrick Coxs shoes' and Colins kidnapping :-) I recommend this series to people who have any sense of humour at all J

All it took was the opening scene to remind me what a classic Spaced is. 10 years on and still as fresh as it was in it's day. Proper belly laughs. Nick Frost is the stand out hero of the series for me. Can't wait for the 2nd series and the documentary.

I was diasppointed with Spaced firsty because it wasnt a film. I know I selected it but it was low on the list.I didnt appreciate the humour, just not funny , too mundane. Sorry!

Why? Why send this at all if i wanted to see the bonus stuff i would have bought the dvd not rented it!! what a waste of a what could have been an interesting nights viewing. I can't even fault the programme that was great but bonus features as a single dvd..........pointless!

I'd never heard of this comedy before and was looking through and came across Spaced. So, seeing as the few films with Simon Pegg in that I've seen and really enjoyed I thought YAY, GOTTA WATCH. I was soooooooooo disappointed - I've watched up to episode 3, willing and hoping with all my heart that I'll find something to bust a gut over or fall off the sofa with tears streaming - but no, nothing - I nodded off. Just didn't 'get' it. Will watch the rest of disc 1, cos it's well known that you have to try something a few times before you know fully if you dislike/like and who knows. maybe?! A girl can change her mind ;-)

I'm not going to write too much here so hopefully you'll take some time to see it for yourself, if you already haven't. This is one of the best comedies of all time (in my humble opinion) wonderful insight and cracking jokes as well as a good sprinkling of pop culture references (try and spot them all). if you want to see where Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were born take a look. for me the 90's in a nutshell , playing Resident Evil for ten hours on a comedown . . . ah those were the days !

I only discovered Spaced about a year ago, despite actually being first shown on TV back on 1999. It is absolutely genius and I would be shocked if there is anyone who does not find this series amusing. Very clever in the way it is written and can be watched over and over again. I will rarely watch a series back to back and then restart immediately after finishing... but I did with this. More comments are picked up on each time you watch it. Very unfortunate that a third series was not made, it's the type of humour that would not get boring and could not be exhausted! Well done Pegg and Stevenson!

The humour genre which led to Sean of the Dead has its genesis in Spaced. It played rather dark on my system, but the claustrophobic North London atmosphere's made up for that. Unbeatable.

It is hard to explain how awesome this tv series was. But i can sit and re watch it happily. So many fantastic episodes. I admit it suffers a little from references about current events in some of the episodes! But would happily recommend it!

If you have seen Shawn of the dead or Hot Fuzz then this is a must see, even if you havent seen them, this is still a great series from great writers, it captures the way most people in their early twenties live or have lived at some point perfectly, its a slice of fried gold!

This is a great series, odd, funny, and chock full of blink and you miss them pop culture referances - It didn't hang around long enough to get predictable either. Watch and enjoy!

You will be. Very surreal anarchic, but gentle british comedy. Bit like Ealing Comedies on acid, Til' Death Us Do Part on Ecstasy (you (may)just love the partied out cyclist) - you'll either love it or hate it, thrive on the buzz or wither on the line.

Everyone should watch Spaced all the way through at least once. It is a show that speaks to everyone on some level. It's funny, well written and shows a real attention to detail, in its references to popular culture. Rent it now, you wont be disappointed.

Spaced Has its moments I rented this because I adored Shaun of the Dead and thought it was hilarious. I found Spaced by the same writer less funny, but it did still make me laugh at times. Certain episodes are better than others, especially the dog episode. The DVD itself has good extras; the outtakes are practically worth it alone! Spaced doesn't quite live up to the hype created by its fans, but definitely worth a watch This won't be your kind of comedy if you're after some gut-clutching humour. On the other hand if you like your 'observations on life', if you like to laugh at the absurd and at yourself, then this is a must see dvd.

I was rubbish and late in getting to this series and missed it on TV, so was glad to be able to rent it. Really funny - Pegg and Stevenson are hysterical. If you liked Shaun Of The Dead, you will like this. Will be getting the second series.

This bonus DVD just rounded off both series perfectly. I won't give away why but there was definitley a pay off that true spaced fans will appreciate. The characters and sets are revisted and Simon Pegg, Jessica Stephenson and Edgar Right take a trip down memory lane. Excellent!

Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson are brilliant as loser flatmates in the second season of this too-short series. This season is even better than the first, featuring battle-bots and dog-napping and more fantastically funny moments from Mike, Marsha and Brian.

From the people who brought you Shaun of the Dead, this is an earlier TV series (season two). Season One was much weaker, especially the first few episodes. Season Two is consistently inventive and funny throughout.

How do you describe spaced? Well it's about two people who are down on there respective luck,and decide to rent a flat together-pretending that they are a couple so they stand a chance of getting it. It's more than that of course, but to say any more would be giving the game away,very funny,with some great reference's to sci-fi humour.With Simon Pegg at the helm (Shaun of the dead),if you liked that, you will love this,same type of humour -sit back and relax it's quality !

If you have enjoyed Sean of the Dead then I can't recommend this enough. While the plots of the episodes are not quite as surreal, the characters more than make up for it. Lot's of cheeky references to films and we can all share in Tim's pain stemming from 'The Phantom Menace'.

Rented this because I didn't catch many episodes when it was originally shown. I expect it would have had more impact on me first time around. It is still funny and the character types are excellently played.

The spaced series was aimed at the twenty somethings who have trouble realising they are adults and are still trying desperately to cling to their fading youth. Its characters are well created and observed. The scripts are funny and simon pegg and jessica stephenson are at their best. As a twenty something bloke who doesn't want to grow up I found a lot of similarities to my own life and view of the world. Definitely worth a look.

Fine the Title to this review is cheesy but hey it's a film reference which is pretty apt as Spaced is full of them. It is the most humourous British comedy in years and is a welcome break from some of the rubbish released at the the moment. This series has it all making jokes out of star wars and pretty much any other film you could care to think of!

I remember watching spaced when it first came out in 1999 so i was about 11. I got it out again after seeing it in '50 best comedies' or something and im just reminded of how brilliant it actually it. It so funny, with so many film references slipped in quite causally. (Look out for scooby doo and close encounters to name a few). Set in a bedsit 'its not a bedsit, its a flat' Tim and Daisy who dont know each other quite well go about their daily lives, ones a writer ones an artist. It goes from the real to the surreal which makes it so good. Its written by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, and is great all the way through. Its just great top notch comedy all the way through which i wasnt expecting even though i saw it ages ago. Look out for cameos by David Walliams and other comic actors. Funny writing all the way through even though very little happens to the two, but if you like Shaun of the Dead then you'll love Spaced. Definately a must-see.

Superbly written comedy surrounding the lives of 2 guys into Pubs, films, sci-fi and computer games. Something great to watch when you fancy something funny when you're not in the mood for anything too heavy and you just want to relax on the sofa. Put simply, any fans of the film 'Shaun of the Dead' will LOVE this!

After watching Shaun of the Dead, I heard it was inspired by one of the episodes of SPACED.

After watching both the first and 2nd series, I can't believe I never watched them when they were on TV! Absolute comedy gold! The comic timing is perfect throughout, has characters you can relate to and the whole thing is acted out beautifully.

I enjoyed it but sometimes found the surreality a bit much, just didn't always get what it was trying to do. I did think that the 2 lead characters were excellently written and acted and absolutely love the scooby doo joke.

I'd caught a few Spaced episodes when they came out but wasn't really trapped by them as I felt I had missed out from the beginning. After watching several Simon Pegg films I thought it only right to give the Spaced series a quick run through; and I wasn't disappointed. All the brilliance of Shawn & Fuzz was apparent in the series which is best understood, if like me you start at the beginning and follow it through. Enjoy

I personally thought this series was a lot better than series 1. Made me laugh a lot more, and seemed to have a more ongoing underlying storyline.

Definitely a good DVD. Special features are excellent as were the first series’. Especially like the 'homage meter' subtitle option which tells you where references come from. Outtakes as before are very funny!

Excellent, well worth purchasing (as on offer) we kept it for a while and rewatched it. It's amazing how much you miss the first time like the Dawn of the Dead t-shirt that Tim wears or the oregano shot.

Get series one first though or else the characters won't flow.

Having just rented the second series of 'Spaced' for a week and watching it over and over, I can say that the whole thing possessed me in a delightful way that I am still buzzing from. This stuff is clever!

The music is outstanding triphoppy and original. The nonstop postmodern references are hugely enjoyable. But what really kicks about these seven little episodes is the fact that the two main protagonists, Daisy and Tim, can really act. Plus everybody loves each other (bit like the Osbournes)!

As failed adults the characters all need each other to validate their wannabe lifestyles. Watching this great series has even helped validate my own wannabe lifestyle. Yay for Spaced!

The bonus features come across very much as group of mates reminiscing over a special time in their lives. So if you like the characters and the actors then you'll like this. I hadn't seen the second series when I saw this so my viewing of it became almost an homage of an homage. Not only was I spotting the references, I was spotting the references to the references. Twice the fun.

Hillariously funny and all in good taste. Simon Pegg is a comedy god or damn close too, Ricky Gervais watch out. If good British comedy makes you smile then this is the series that will make your face ache. Rent it and give yourself a treat.

I love Spaced...I own both series on DVD and thought the dvd of bonus features would have been alot better. In the bonus features theres Simon Pegg and co being filmed in documentary style and talking about where they filmed. Thats about it really. No outtakes, no real inside info (the www has more info than this dvd)and generally a let down if your a fan. You would be better off getting both DVds of the series and watching them with the commentary on!! Much funnier!!

In my opinion, 'Spaced' is one of the most ground-breaking and innovative sitcoms ever to have graced our screens. This Bonus Features DVD is of extreme interest if you are a massive fan or have any predisposition for writing, acting or directing in television. The interviews are fascinating with the writers and the director, Edgar Wright. I found Simon Pegg's explanation of how Nick Frost actually started his TV career amazing. To think that he now stars in BBC2's 'Hyperdrive' as the lead is brilliant. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who has a keen interest in comedy and enjoys seeing life behind the mask that we call television.

As a keen avoider of these space-filling DVD 'bonus' features, I was pleasantly surprised that I watched the documentary of the creation of Spaced on this disc. It actually provided some real insight into the development of the programme, and offers the hope of future instalments. And it was entertaining, a real bonus. However, I skipped the rest of the contents...

Fills in an interesting hour or so, desperately interesting for fans - who will have already bought both DVDs (Discs 1 & 2)

Convert someone who has never seen it, flog 'em yours and re-purchase this.

It IS the definitive set with the 3rd disc, though it is a bit much for those who have already shelled out £40 by buying both series when they came out!

Sadly the beginning of the tale of Tim and Daisy just doesn't quite stand up to repeated viewing. The lines just aren't quite what I remember, but the showdown between Tim and Dwight with paintball guns is still priceless. The clubbing episode isn't THAT great, but the Resident Evil and Paintball ones are still two of my favourite TV moments.

This very funny sitcom has some great characters and plently of references to Films and TV.

Yet again DVD crowds try to screw every last geek pound out of us. Soon after the two series of Spaced, probably the best sitcom of the last 10 years, were released, a box-set arrived with this bonus disc. If, like I, you've got the the first two series and understandably don't want to rebuy a boxed set, it's worth renting this disc. It is relatively scant though, with just a 80minutes or so of a documentary and edited highlights of the series set to some good tunes. Pegg, Stevenson and Wright etc. are engaging as always and it's worth it to see some clips of their previous sketch and sitcom work together. If you are totally new to spaced it would be better to buy the nice box-set with the Star Wars-esque cover.

Wow what can i say bout this series totally one of the best comidies ever.This has got to be one of Simon Peggs best roles as i thought Sean of the dead was medicore and hot fuzz while was a pile of hot fuzz.But getting back to this you will love this comedy if you love the good old brit humour get to meet the some what weird alternative artist Brian and then theres the land lady Marsha and her daughter Amber.Who you never see all u see is her strobing tights lol.Then theres Mike who thinks life is spent every hour in the T.A and as daisy says 'aww hes like a giant baby with a moustach'.Absouloute classic.I have dearly ownd this on vhs since it was first ever released but dont own a video player anymore so had to rent it from here and this will hopefully soon get a bluray release then i will deffo buy it.So please just give this a try its offbeat and one of the most funnyiest series ever and as many have said wish there were more to this.But as they say 'the good die young'.

Now I really liked the series and if you bought the boxed set you would play this DVD just once.

Power trip with attitude - I understand the need to put these things on the collectors edition but there should be a warning like "Do not watch this unless your a train spotter" etc.

It was a fun comedy no need to analyse it the onlt upside was Jessica Stevensons top.

Don't rent this if all you want is another episode.

Didn't gel with me, couldn't get into it

This is an excellent british comedy that could have run and run for years to come. The filming, performances and an ode to popular culture and films. The series is fast paced and extremely funny. It's a shame really that they only made two series which are both available through here. This is highly recommended. Until they make another series, I guess we have to see 'Shaun of the Dead' until they (hopefully) make another series. Give this a try. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!

I think you need to be addicted to Spaced to bother.

I'm not and never was, so I couldn't get into this. It's now a bit dated and though an interesting idea, the scripts just aren't original or funny enough.

No aspect of the series is sufficiently above average to redeem this DVD enough to make it worth the time.

This is one of the funniest things on TV. I wish they would make a new series.

This series is truly original and very funny.

I wanted to check this out as I missed it when it was on telly and I really rate Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and loved Shaun of the Dead. I found the first few episodes, though entertaining with moments of comic genius, not as good as the latter ones. The last to episodes had many more laugh-out-loud moments for me. I'm looking forward to seeing the second series and seeing if my hopes were worthwhile.

Rented this because I've just seen Shaun of the Dead and thought it was hilarious. I found Spaced by the same writer less funny, but it did still make me giggle in places.

Certain episodes are better than others, especially the dog episode. The DVD itself has good extras; the outtakes are practically worth it alone!

Spaced doesn't quite live up to the hype created by its fans, but definitely worth a watch.

I must just not get the sense of humour, but this was about the most unfunny thing I have ever seen. I didn't laugh once. What am I missing? Not a touch on Little Britain/The Office- any number of American comedies. Rubbish!

Who says that British television comedy is dead. They obviously hadn't watched Space. This is a fantastic series, especially if you are an avid film buff. The characters are fantastic and there is not a weak link anywhere to be found. It's a shame there is only two series of this because after viewing series one and two, you are just hungry for more. The extras on this disc are great as well. A must see.

Such a shame, considering the fact that i am a huge fan of Simon Pegg's work it was hard to sit through the first two episodes of this excuse of a show...i only watched the second thinking it would finally yank the handbreak down, put it into first and start to progress into a story. Sadly i was much mistaken and forced to take the disc out of the machine and post it back, not funny on any level, a wannabe boosh!
