The Transporter  (2002)

Jason Statham is a God. Well, in this he is. He starts of with a really dodgy accent but does seem to lose it throughout the film. He's a hired gin who does driving jobs for a hefty fee. For his services he'll use his superb driving skills to get his paying customers out of a jam. He asks no questions and needs precise instruction in order to perfectly time his getaways. His number one rule is to never ask questions. One day he takes a job from a sleazy and shady man named Betancourt. Instead of delivering the goods, he breaks his number one rule and peeks inside the package... This movie is pure action having all the usual clichés: car chasing, explosions, fights when nobody uses guns, the lead actor gets some kind of involvement with the victim etc. But the choreography is excellent and the action scenes are great.

At last...a British action hero to be proud of.
Up until now, very rarely has a british male taken the lead in an all round, full on action flick and well..kicked ass.
Of course we've had James Bond in many shapes and form - but a karate chop with the butt of Bond's PPK just doesn't compare with Jason Statham's furious fighting style that will leave any action film fan - very impressed.
The film itself, although reminiscent of the big 80's action flicks does at least deliver a refreshing plot penned by the great Luc Besson. With some great stunts, fight scenes and good chemistry between the central characters, 'the Transporter' is an enjoyable 90 minutes of entertainment.

The Transporter is Frank Martin (Statham) an sharply dressed professional driver who transports things. Anything. Devoid of curiosity and unnecessary involvement he collects here and delivers there carrying neither more than less than agreed neither further nor closer than agreed. All of this is codified in his three Rules: (1) The deal is the deal, (2) No names and (3) Never open the package. This inflexible regimen allows him to indulge his expertise at throwing his custom BMW around narrow French streets at a great head of knots, usually with the police in hopeless pursuit.
Fate intervenes and car trouble leads Frank to an unusually close examination of one particular package, an examination that piques his curiosity to the extent that he breaks rule three and has a peek. Of course this indiscretion leads him inevitably to a Beautiful Woman, a Bad Man and a variety of Dangerous Henchmen. Inevitably it turns out that Frank is not only a fine driver he is equally adept at slapping people about thanks to a shadowy background in the special forces.
The play is most certainly not the thing here.
Jason Statham presents himself as a fine action hero in that branch of the tradition that doesn't take itself too seriously. The introduction to the character of Frank Martin is intriguing and humourous (not to say brutal) unfortunately the script doesn't really build on the original elements of the character and takes too many short cuts into standard action hero motivations. While this is a shame it doesn't ruin the film, Statham is a charismatic actor who conveys the imperturbable and taciturn nature of his character with ease.
Qi Shu plays the perfidious damsel in distress very well but Matt Schulze, chief Dangerous Henchman, overplays to the point of parody. Francois Berleand's worldly wise detective plays his part well, adding an otherwise missing element of European atmosphere to a film that is, after all, set in France.
It's fast, fun, the action sequences are impressive and overall it's a great piece of entertainment.

WOW.what a great film,plenty of action from the start but handled with a swarve calmness by jason statham.excellent stunts throughout the film which add to an all round fast action thrill from start to finish.

Cockney actor Jason Statham grabs some kung fu moves, a BMW and a wavering american accent for this flat out France based actioner. It looks nice, has some decent set pieces and Statham comes out of it surprisingly well. At 87 minutes its a great Friday nighter.

Let's get one thing straight ..this film is rubbish,ludicrous.laughable.I watched this for all the wrong reasons.Running after a passing crop duster before commandeering it...what!! worse skydiving onto a moving lorry ...ridiculous!! worse still shimmying under said moving vehicle to find a conveniently placed car wheel brace ideal for launching frisby style at chasing hoods..I'm sorry but its time for a reality check.I nearly had a hernia when Statham greased up and put the bike peddles on his feet!! Previous comments about wooden acting & dodgy soundtrack are true and could well contribute to this film developing a cult(no spelling mistake) following. If you're after a Ronin type experience..forget it.If you're prepared to suspend your disbelief then rent it and laugh for a couple of hours.

The Transporter is a no nonsense, kick butt action movie with enjoyable performances and just the right dose of tongue in cheek no-brainer material to keep you entertained for a night in front of the telly.

I enjoyed every explosion and every minute without having to exercise my mind.

Jason Statham puts in a 'Jackie Chan-esque' performance in this action-thriller with exciting and highly original fight-scenes superbly choreographed by Corey Yuen.

'The Transporter' is 'white-van man' meets 'Grant Mitchell' meets 'Bruce Lee', and keeps your attention throughout, mixing chase and fight sequences, with picturesque locations in France.

Jason Statham has a wealth of talents being an ex-olympic diver, kick-boxer, and, most importantly, the lucky man who wakes up next to Kelly Brook. This performance should make him hot-property in Hollywood as the new Van-Damme.

This film should have done much better at the box-office and hopefully it's growing DVD fan-base would make a 'Transporter 2' a much bigger hit.

No question, this has to be on your wish-list.

This is one serious kick ass movie - never a dull moment - Jason Strathan is the new king of action movies. The action is fast and furious (roll over Vin Diesel - Jason is the new kid in town) Fantastic stuff. Rent it NOW!!!

To be honest I expected a bit more from this film. The action sequences are good and the fight scenes are entertaining, and in some places quite funny. However the many of the fight scenes are just so choreographed that you get the feeling you are watching a dance routine rather than a fight. Its impressive, but uninvolving.
The plot seems to have a few holes in it, but as long as you don't feel like engaging your brain whilst watching, you won't mind.
It was ok, but I just felt a little let down by the end.

What can I say?, well, Jason Statham plays an outstanding character!! I thought he was very good in 'Lock stock' and 'Snatch' But he certainly excelled himself in this film!

The sequel is all action no storyline, this one is funny at least and has some kind of intriguing story. Obviously this is for action film fans and it doesn't need you to use your brain much. A very relaxing film (well for the viewers not for the actors :-))

This is a thriller, which does not fail to keep the viewers' attention with several plot-twists and fast-paced action. The movie also features some of the best martial arts action that I have seen in a long time.

Transporter bangs in your face with a fast and exciting swing of action. If is a great film to watch if you are looking for a fast moving action film with some of the best car chases you will ever see. It only rates 3 stars because the story line doesnt hold much interst or realism . Worth a watch!

Jason Statham has never looked so good. Usually seen playing a support role, in this film he shows he can handle the limelight in playing the main character. Unfortunately the quality of the story doesn't back him up, and what starts optimistically on an interesting plot setup slowly lapses into a predictable and snore-enducing script. That said, the action sequences are amazing, if sometimes feeling a little shoehorned in. The fighting in engine oil scene is really quite messily special, and the speed and style of filming complement Jasons turn of speed in fight sequences. It's really the bits between the action that let the film down. Fun, fast and sometimes frantic, but Triple X it aint. If you enjoy Jean Van Damme films you'll probably enjoy this.

The Transporter is one cool cookie of a film. It tells the tale of an ex-serviceman who works for Europe?s seedy underbelly delivering items from place to place. He lives his life by a set of rigid rules but things start to go wrong when he breaks one of his own rules only to find a kidnapped girl in his boot. This is probably as in-depth as the plot gets as there is little after this than a series of top action set pieces that end in fighting and explosions. Stratham plays a very good action star and makes the film believable. The love interest is gorgeous so the film has the required parts to make it work. The Transporter for all its action still feels like a Western version of a Jackie Chan or Jet Li film. The story line is poor and a couple of the fight scenes descend into farce but for fans of martial art films that are a bit cheesy this is certainly worth a look.

A competant action flick, with some good camera work. Though the plot is thin, and the acting even thinner, this is still an entertaining film because it really has no pretentions of being some sort of groudbreaking epic. It's a good way to spend 90mins of your time, and has some well staged fight work that will keep you entertained.

Jason Statham steps forward as a true Brit hero. He is rapidly growing to become a true legend in Brit films with his high action martial arts. Ok, in roles in The Italian Job and Lock Stock he played a hard man, but in The One and this film he is given more freedom to show his moves. This is helped by working with Cory Yuen who works on all of Jet Li's films (who starred in The One and from watching the extras enjoyed working with Statham).
Definitely well worth the watch as it is action packed from beginning to end.

I liked the films silly plot twists, over arching villains, strange interplay that, almost seems absurd, between the Transporter and the local cop. This rivals top gun in its overt homo erotic subtleties. Truly the inspector and the our hero are attracted to each other, although both are too butch to admit it. A definite gay movie.

This is a action packed movie, with very exciting car chases and great stunts. You won't get bored!

The first time I saw it I didn't know what to think. But everytime I see it I get sucked in. It's a dark romantic comedy, if there can be such a thing. It's different and interesting, unlike a sappy Sleepless in Seattle or You've Got Mail. It's also very visually interesting. Definitely worth renting. It would be a good date movie because there is a lot to discuss afterward.

I don't remember this film being released at the cinema at all, so I thought it wouldn't be that good.....I was surprised. Great action film with great stunts. Very reminiscent of an old Japanese movie with the way the fights were choreographed, (even checked who directed it to see why). There was a lot of mystery around the lead character who's past was kept quite shadowy and was never explored. I feel a sequel/series coming on. Sometimes reminded me of a James Bond film, don't know why becasue the lead was far cooler, the fight scenes were better and more convincing and the film was less kitsch in general.

This is actually a stylish, modern action adventurer, and the lead actor is actually great in this role, none of the cringe factor you get with some of the other action hero types, i.e. Van Damme, Jackie Chan, etc etc...

Highly entertaining, to call this dull and poor and badly acted, is a blatant lie!

Some of the stunts are fantastic, great use of the camera too. Impressive martial arts moves. Plot a little thin but enough to keep you interested at all times. Good wholesome violence and action.

Whilst The Transporter started with some excellent chase scences this stopped as the film progressed. The fast paced action of the driving scences were overshadowed by the slow cartoon style fighting that seemed to make up most of the film. By the end I felt that there had been no real story and the film did not fulfill the promise it boasted in the first five minutes. I found it laughable how there was a change of clothes everywhere he went!!!!!

I think The Transporter might be the only movie I've ever seen with a whole scene dedicated to oiled-up, combat-writhing bicycle abuse.

Definitely a film to buy on DVD, this film is packed with great stunts, brilliant action sequences and special effects, and a good story line.

The Transporter lived up to expectations judging from the trailer. I enjoyed the car chase in particular. I thought the backdrop was gorgeous and the soundtrack beautiful.

A pretty good action film. I quite like it but I just give 3 for the reason that there is some mistake about language (Lai's speaking Chinese but not Japanese). Additionally, the martial arts in this film are so simple and the movements are unclear.

That Jason is just gorgeous! It did lack a plot but I think Jason fighting half naked all oiled up made up for that!

One of the worst films I've seen for a long time. There is enjoyable 'trash' such as the Die Hard films, Jet Li's films, anything with Arnie, but this is...bad. All those films mentioned has got leading actors with some form of screen presence, if not acting abilities. Statham, unfortunately, has neither. Was he playing an Englishman, American, or Frenchman? Some of the set pieces are farcical are the general character interaction. The ONLY saving grace is Shu Qi, the stunning Oriental actress and the car chases.

If I get a body like his I will be happy, and those stunts, those stunts reminded me of 'The Matrix' but believable. Jason is slick,its a fast paced action and snippets of humour make this good viewing!

AN ok action adventure .. acting is a little hammy in parts and the story line is a little thin but a well made film . Great fight scenes and chases. one for the boys really .. its claim to be the film XXX wanted to be is stretching it a little. Expected more and was a little disappointed .

Jason Statham brings a breath of fresh air to what has become a genre of predictable, formulaic fayre. Excellent fight scenes from Director Corey Yuen (look out especially for the bus fight and the fight in oil).

this film seemed to start with a good opening sequence but slowly ended up being a shocker of a film.poor acting through out and and a porn style soundtrack bursting through at the most in appropriate moments make this film a very low budget bond film. this film has had mixed reviews with my friends and family and overall its turned out to crap.do not put yourself through dody cheap explosions and lame chinese co staring as it will dissapoint you deeply.

Never since Pearl Harbour have I never not watched a film all the way through. Made it to about 40 minutes in and just had to turn it off. Terrible!

I'm not really into the action flick these days, all guns and explosions and all that nonsense but if forced to watch one (as I was) then I'd rather it was something like this. Slick, good stunts and a slightly less ludicrous plot than normal for this type of film. It's not up there with Terminator 2 or Die Hard but on the plus side Vin Diesel isn't in it so it can't be that bad.

Why the american accent? Why cast JS in a European film, and then get him to be a yank? No plot.....if you are having problems sleeping, then this is sure to bore you beyond belief.

Stratham exceeds expectations, makes a bad film watchable. Great opening scene, deteriorates thereon. Wouldn't recommend but will look out for Stratham's next film.

This turns out to be Jackie Chan in disguise in France. The film is high-action and high octaine. Overall, a good film and you will find yourself laughing at the outrageous fight scenes.

To be honest i was quite sceptical with this film. I had not seen it previously so consequently i watched it last out of the 3 i rented out...what a mistake!! Absolutely brilliant action and fantastic martial arts, topped off with some great dialogue and a hard but witty main character. An absolute winner in all respects, not too taxing on the brain and full of great set pieces.

This film is action packed from the beginning, you might think cheesy, this film is not. It makes James Bond want to take a part in this film. Great acting by not well known actors, but they performed stunts, better than xxx with vin diesel but as good as Gone in 60 seconds.

One of the best films I have seen in a while. The driving of the BMW at the beginning had me on the edge of my seat. The acting wasn't brilliant but all the stunts kept me going right until the end. It was so good that I've kept it to watch it again before I return it !!!

A little confused at first but having got the plot, it was a really enjoyable movie. Full of action and laughter all the way through. Something to laugh about when you're feeling stressed. Think of it as you being kicking buts in the office but charming at the same time.

Fantastic film, action sequences and set pieces are brilliant and so is Jason Statham. Was much better than I expected. Story was a little thin and the woman was a bit annoying at times but it doesn't put you off the rest of the film. Right from the initial car chase, one of the best I've seen, it's fast-paced and exciting.

I really enjoyed this film, its just class! the cars are class, the acting is class, its just brilliant. Its so nice to see a british actor in a great role. The chases and fights are just brilliant and well thought out. If you are a fan of Jason then watch this film!

Jeremy Statham is a brilliantly cool and calm getaway driver/courier. The French setting adds to the story but why does every bad guy encountered have to be a highly trained kung fu expert? Still great throw away fun.

If it's car chases and a bit of kung-foo you're into, then you are in for a treat. You can see the obvious Luc Besson influence (Leon & Taxi) in both the action sequences & French flavour, but unfortunately it lacks either the originality or comedy of his earlier films. I don't think I'll bother with the sequal when it comes out.

From the opening bank robbery get away this film hardly ever lets up on the excitement. The car chases are some of the best I have seen in a long time as are the fight sequences, especially the one in the bus garage. The plot is not too bad either and it makes a nice change in a movie like this for the actions of the characters to make sense (most of the time) and not just be an excuse to move onto the next set piece fight.

A good quality film that moves at a a fast pace and doesn't let the viewer lag behind. Lets see more of this kind of film more often.

Having watched Unleashed I was interested to see if this Luc Besson scripted actioner could match the absurdity and comedy. It did have absurdity but the fight scenes lacked the edge and realism of Unleashed, similarly the comedy wasn't as prevalent. As for Jason Statham? He did some good fight scenes but the guy's acting is terrible.

This takes all the worst bits from old TV movies, all the boring bits from the Bond movies and mixes in possibly the worst music score ever to give you a rather yawn makking movie. Not good. Not even after several pints and a kebab!

Some good fight scenes, chases, etc, but can someone please tell me what Jason Stathams accent was supposed to be. It was either the worst Amercan accent ever or poor old Jase was a tad confused as to what accent he was supposed to be using. A small gripe but apart from that worth a watch.

I rented this at the request of my boyfriend, and it was obvious why. How many fast car chases, hot women, fight scenes and stunts involving explosions can we fit into one movie? I guessed all the storyline (much to the annoyance of said boyfriend) before the incidents happened. All this said however, it was watchable, and the lead guy was pretty charasmatic.

I thought this was going to be a top british film, but what a load of rubbish, true some good action seens but with no story and some bad acting, like a british van dam film rubbish.

A film in the style of a computer game best sums up this little gem. Jason Statham as The Transporter out Bond's Bond is this action filled karate packed idiotic film. The script about illegal smuggling felt like it was written by a four year old and the acting barely stretches any sort of talent. However there is a certain charm to it - be it the beautiful Nice backdrop, the tongue-in-cheek cheesiness of it all or the number of inconsistencies and continuity errors. If you are looking for some brain dead action than this is right up your street.

Really enjoyed this film although the plots been done thousand times before! but you really get to warm to the main chracter who pulls off some bad ass fight scene's and he's a BRIT!!

Silly and bad acting

This film was really bad but in a funny and watchable way. I think the fact that Jason Statham was in it helped me stay tuned! Whats with the cheesy backround music?

Brilliant driving, magic stunts, very pleased with the level of entertainment from start to finish on this one and good acting by Jason Statham. I also thought he fitted his part well as I was kept on the edge of my chair throughout. I am looking forward to Transporter 2 (but if any of the reviews for it are anything to go by, the sequel may not be as good.) but i will judge it for myself. Conclusion: If you are wanting to watch a good honest fight/chase/explosive friday night movie, give it ago.

ok so its the end of the month and you cant afford to go to the pub,either that or cant get babysitter etc,rent this film,easy watching,plenty of action,bit of a story,great car chases,its good but definatley not a chick flick!

Move over Arnie, Sylvester and the A- team this guy beats you hands down for 1 against 8 or more cheesy action! The fight sequences in this film are unbelievable - unbelievable in so mush that I cant believe I wasted 88 minutes of my precious life watching this film! trust me watch it and you WILL regret it and I will be wearing the big 'I told you so' tee shirt when you write a similar review! This is not a good film. Jason Statham is a really terrible actor. Throught the film he puts on a really strange accent...I think he might be trying to do American but I can't tell. I had this film recommended to me by a friend. They are no longer my friend. Watch something else instead.

missed this when it was first out, but have watched it before getting transporter 2. Lots of action, goes along at a good pace quite watchable.

thats the question i've been struggling to answer ever since i watched the transporter, it is indeed a very good watch, has a nice blend of 007 and xxx as at times you feel as if `Q` has taken over the `xander zone`, must watch transporter 2!!!

The film starts of brilliantly but decays at the end as it becomes disjointed thus appears unrealistic especially how fast the police actually turn up!!

this started well,but it soon became apparent that there wasn't a proper plot, and the one offered had so many holes in it that the whole film became a giant shoot em up cliche. the driving chases were well done, but our hero should have been killed off early in the story. pity he wasn't.

A Great movie with a great plot, Basically a guy with a car who transports anything for money going about with his set of rules (Which he breaks almost always) From then on it's trouble all the way,Martial Arts fighting comes into this quite a lot and there's some great if not slightly believable fight scenes. Cross any Bruce Lee film with XXX or Gone in 60 minutes and you have trasporter. Be sure also to rent Transporter 2, Just as good as the first!

If you like Fast & Furious, or you liked the fight scenes from Kill Bill, you will love this film! Set in France, it opens with a great car chase through narrow streets, & then towards the end there is another good road 'battle' scene. The fight scenes are similar to K.B. in the sense that you have the main character pitted against an ever increasing number of 'bad guys'. One of these scenes in particular is just brilliant because how it develops is so clever! Watch it, you won't be disappointed!

O dear, the weakest plot you could ever imagine and the silliest action scenes I have ever seen in my life. If this happened in a parallel universe on earths special twin with non existent physics and reality it would just be rubbish. As it is we couldn't help but hate it. One of the worst films I have ever seen.

I wasn't quite prepared to lock away my disbelief when I started watching this movie and that was a bad thing, because some of the stunts and action sequences in this film require that your disbelief is well and truly suspended. The Transporter, played by a badly American accented Jason Statham, is rather like a poor man's James Bond, with all the stunts and action that goes with him. The fight scenes are excellent and brilliantly choreographed, even if at some points you hear yourself saying 'that's not him!' and there are some great car chases - but make sure your brain is not engaged before watching. In essence this is a pure action film with a paper thin story - if you begin watching knowing this then you will enjoy it immensely.

This is great fun, more sophisticated than its sequel. Jason Statham is a perfect for the job. The baddies are quite bad, the fight scenes are very Hong Kong, and even better than the Mission Impossible series. rent today.

A good film but predictable all the way.

Predictable action romp that could easily have been a Bruckheimer (leave your brains at the door on the way in), but an entertaining hour and a half's escapism all the same, with bizarre fight sequences that are almost cartoon-esque in their construction.

THE TRANSPORTER is one of those slick and spam action flicks. Along the lines of THE ITALIAN JOB and 007, this movie is a nice mix of both. Some impressive and original action sequences with heartfelt performances - even if they do run a little too long! The music is top-notch (perhaps a bit too much bass at times), but it works well and smooth like the lead's sleaky BM model. The film starts off very well and on a high note, but it does subside a little towards the middle and certainly towards the end. Maybe they'll hash it better in TRANSPORTER 2?

Having already watched Transporter 2 and really enjoyed it - I was advised to watch Transporter. Not disappointed - loved the film - Definitely Bond-style with a spritzer. Jason Statham is scrummy as usual (for the ladies) and there is enough action to keep the lads glued. Excellent film - make sure you see Transporter 2 if you enjoy this one!

Fast paced adventure madness. There are a few loopwholes but by the time you've worked them out you'll have rented number 2. Which, hard though it may be to believe, is actually even better. If you don't like fast fun and exciting films then steer clear of this one. :)

Not a girlie movie...! Good car chases (only bettered by Transporter 2). Martial arts scenes are good; however towards the end the film gets a smidgen far fetched.

You could be forgiven for thinking that this is just another boy-saves-girl action movie. The storyline isn't terribly complicated, and - some may say - predictable. But the stunts and set pieces are extremely original, demonstrating some skills you would be hard pushed to find captured elsewhere on film. And the whole premise of the boy-not-actually-wanting-to-save-girl is well written. An enjoyable, and untaxing, explosive romp.

what a refreshing change to see a REALLY GOOD FILM!! This film is hyper-charged. Its got everything from car chases, breathtaking stunts, scenic locations, an invincible hero and very slick photography. I was totally glued to the screen from start to finish. I dare anyone not to enjoy this film!

Overall a good film, if not a bit corney in places. good efforts to Jason on the American accent, at least he tried. One thing though, What purpose to to story line did them having sex have?

Statham is OK once you get used to his strange accent. The French police inspector gives a balance to the characters. A week after seeign it I struggle to remember what the Transporter and the police chief were trying to achieve. But then it is shoot-em-up , car chase movie.

excellent action packed film - brill viewing

Good action romp. Easy on the brain but such a good watch. Will become a TV classic like Die Hard.

You will watch this film because you don't care about acting, a script, a plot, realism, realistic french accents or an annoying background music score that makes following the aforementioned poor script difficult. (which, i guess, isn't a bad thing) You will also watch this film because you like action, stunts, crazy driving, lots of CGI, an overmuscled Jason Stratham covered in oil and fight scenes by the dozen

I enjoyed this film but felt that it was all over too quickly. It could have done with an extra 20 minutes to go into a little more detail about who he was etc. But the action was great, Jason Statham looked good and kicked some butt! What more do you want from an action movie?

Action packed. Well worth watching

Bad acting, naff storyline and the worst plastic surgery on a man after Pete Burns! Nothing and nobody was good enough to rescue this film, although the French policeman tried hard. Pity there isn't a half star rating.

I liked this one. It is probably a bit shallow when it comes down to plot and character building, but it raced along with plenty of action and an interesting couple of characters. I couldn't quite follow the plot in the middle - it seemed to suddenly introduce a story line from out of the blue, but, hey, it's all fiction. You don't need your brain for this one but its worth a look!

The first 5 minutes nearly had me, but soon it became fairly obvious that this film just wasn't going anywhere.

If you like martial art films then this may pass as a film to watch. Spectacular explosions purely for the effects and not the plot, impossible fight scenes and a plot so full of holes that one wonders why anybody bothered. Dont waste your time watching it unless you have run out of dentists to visit.

This is slickly directed with well-paced action, let down by a weak story and fairly uninvolving characters. It is worth watching for the man with no ears, though - a true example of plastic surgery gone wrong.

This is one of the best action movies that I've seen in a long while. It has constant suspence, fast action, and excellent martial arts combat - Bruce Lee reborn?! The supporting actors a bit iffy, but this doesn't detract from an otherwise excellent movie. Good car-chase scenes are close to those seen in Ronan (though not as long or good). There is also a clever oil bath fight scene, the list goes on..

A good one to avoid. Apart from the ridiculous story, the feeble attempts at sub-James Bond humour and the pondorous car chases, this film not only asked for belief to be suspended, but hung drawn and quartered!

Jason Statham impressed in "Lock, Stock" etc..., but here was throughly mis-cast. His serious and brooding look came out cross-eyed and he kept forgetting to speak in an American accent and came out in pure Sarf London.

There are worse ways to spend a couple of hours of your life, but you tend to spend them during the working day!

The car chase opening and snappy one-liners set up the tone for the rest of the story; a mix of action set-pieces, witty dialogue and laconic cool-guy acting from the lead. The slow-burning plot works out nicely, with some genuine delights at the hands of the diffident police chief - this one has quite a European feel to it, bit of a change from the non-stop Hollywood action you might be expecting, though there are gunbattles and explosions to keep most action fans amused. Things fade a bit at the end, but its still well-worth watching, one of those sleeper hits and something you won't regret renting.

A cheap James Bond that has a car with a digital keypad ignition, but some times fails to impress, for example how can a girl tied to a chair crawl into a car unaided. ??

Good for a laugh but not a great watch.

This film is a full on action movie that gives Jason Statham his best role since Lock Stock / Snatch. Whether its driving impeccably at ludicrous speeds, taking on 8 men kung-fu style, or blazing bullets with an assault rifle, Statham carries the lead role well. The plot and the rest of the cast are a little bit iffy, but theses points didn't distract me particularly. Produced by Luc Besson, this film features some lovely shots of Monaco and is accompanied by a great Hip Hop / Urban soundtrack. The Transporter is not going to tax your mind much but it never pretends to be that sort of film.

Nice action movie.

Jason Statham has to be the best English actor on the scene. The action was sensational and realistic, as the Englishman also known as Turkish from "Snatch" pulls off his own manouvres.

I knew this film wasn't Oscar material but I didn’t think it would be this bad. It had really terrible acting and a ridiculous story. The fight scenes and special effects were nothing special - the sort you find in every action film these days. Definitely not worth wasting one and a half hours of your life for.

Statham is a revelation. He pulls off a mix of Jackie Chan and Jet Li action sequences. Totally impressive and unexpected. His acting is also good, but not on the same level as in "Snatch". Unfortunately, there isn't much else to notice in the whole movie. The plot/screenplay is a mess. It could have been a great movie. The commentary by Statham and a producer isn't very good. Contains one making-of documentary.

The plot is simple: - the Driver (taking a similar role to Clive Owen in the BMW USA 7 minute shorts) has 3 Rules. There is always an exception to the rules and this one leads to car chases and martial art action.

Don't watch it for the storyline, but the car chase sequences and special effects.
This is one of those movies which will do better on video than it did at the Box Office.

I didn't expect much from this film having seen a few of the other reviews it had but I was amazed and absolutely blown away by this film!

My girlfriend and I both agreed that it was probably the worst film ever made BUT it was so bad that it was actually good!

The acting is awful and Jason "Kelly Brook" Statham's accent is not English or American but a strange mix of both.

I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone, but on the off chance that every other film and TV station is unavailable I would suggest you still avoid this and go do something more enjoyable - maybe clean the toilet.

I really enjoyed this movie, from the beginning it had a good feel about it. Jason Statham is the ideal person to have led this film... and lead it he does.

From the outset, you get the idea that this guy is a ruthless transporter. Everything has a rule, everything is precise.....until he breaks one of his own rules.

A man on the run but from who.....and why! Watch it and find out. The downside, this film seemed to end quite quick but maybe that was because I was enjoying it so much.

Good opening sequence. One question that will play on every person's mind that watches this movie is, the girl with arms tied backwards to a swivel chair, legs tied together & mouth gagged, how on earth did she manage to get herself (unaided) to open the door of the room she was locked in, get herself to a car, open the door, lay herself flat on the back seat, close the car door, all UNAIDED! No wonder they never showed the audience how she did it.

Even Jackie Chan could not manage that. They director really insulted the audience intelligence at that scene.

The film is full of large potholes! Why was the girl kidnapped in the first place, why did they need the transporter to do a simple delivery job for thousands of pounds? The storyline of the film was very weak, only thing worth watching is the fight sequence.

If you have a Sunday afternoon to spare, you can watch it.

I was looking forward to this film. The film (story-wise) is a bit poor and full of the familiar plot devices, the acting was ok, a little questionable at times but the fight sequences really really stand out from the film. The payback fight in the hall was strangely believable or or at least I lost my senses in wonderment at it.

Its the suprise of Statham fitting into the part so well that struck me, even if the film as a whole isn't so good. After seeing lots of failed attempts at the kung-fu style combat stuff by actors who really should have known better Statham looks like this is a bike that he always knew how to ride.

I think it safe to say that this is one of the worst movies I've ever viewed. The wife insisted we switch it off after 15 mins but I persevered alone out of shear disbelief and astonishment that the film actually got released.

A really enjoyable action film, the job of "Transporter" was a new one on me, but it is a logical idea, and made an enjoyable film.

I've only seen this once and I wish I hadn't. Never expecting it to be good, I was nevertheless shocked at the hackneyed premise of this film. The plot is just your typical action film, overloaded with special effects that replace storyline rather than accentuate it.

Oh, and then there's Jason Statham's accent. Please mate, stick to your normal voice because your attempt at a slick American accent is laughable.

If you're a lover of truly great films, avoid this at all costs.

A movie of two halves. The sun is shining, the scenery stunning, everything is so effortlessly stylish. You're thinking this is great. Then crash, you're looking at Jackie Chan style comedy kickboxing complete with half second "look at me" pauses between punches.

It's a real cut & shunt of a movie, front half BMW 7 series, back half Nissan Almera GTi.

A strange one this, it really shouldn't work but it just about does. Just about. Jason Statham adopts an awful accent which upsets the entire opening act but you just about get used to it. Just about.

The action is well executed, if a little camp. Shirts off, wrestling in oil, that kind of thing. Statham does just about convince though thanks to some excellent editing and stylish camera work. Just about that is.

Then there's Shu Qi, her Hollywood debut no less. A shame then that her character is one dimensional because she could probably act Al Pacino off the screen in her native tongue. A little less shouty perhaps. Here though she is merely required to look cute, vulnerable and wet. Which i guess i'm all right with too.

Transporter isn't a great movie but it will just about do for an evening of popcorn pleasure. Just about.

The Transporter has two exceptional action sequences: the opening car-chase is rubber-burning exhilaration personified, while a later martial arts fight in spilt oil is inventive and exciting.

Everything else about the film however, and I mean everything, is so appallingly puerile, that you’re left bowled over. I mean, action movies aren’t meant to be bastions of intellectual cinema, but please. This is pushing it a bit.

The characters are non-existent, the attempts at drama are honey-coated soap opera, the numerous plot-holes are the size of craters, while the dialogue is more rotten than a worm-eaten apple.

Apparently Luc Besson wrote the script. If so, there’s no evidence of the last time he was involved in a film about a criminal recluse. Léon was a modern classic.

The fight scenes and action sequences are very good. The plot could have been better. A little bit cheesy at times. Could have been a very good film if plot and action all fitted together better.

This movie is ok and will not disappoint those seeking an imaginative action film. However, I think transporter 2 is slightly better.

Well, what do you expect... Citizen Kane? Mr Statham puts on an American accent, drives very fast, has meaningful conversations with a French cop, hooks up with a nice looking Japanese (I think) lady, takes his shirt off now and again and beats everyone up. It doesn’t make much sense and the ‘euro-pop’ soundtrack is a bit crazy, but the French Riviera scenery looks good and it rolls along merrily for 88 minutes.

Jason Statham is outstanding in this martial arts style action film. He's understand and seriously dangerous. Not the American style muscle bound goon, but just another guy on the street outwardly. That is until he gets into heated action and kicks ass with the best of the action heros. No! Better than them. Jackie Chan like though without the comedic factor. Transporter 2 is on my list.

Unashamed Bond style action with a good storyline too. I loved the idea of the story behind the mysterious transporter and his………load! Enough action to shake a stick at and actually some original sequences too. If you like the idea of staring at Jason Stratham looking moodily sexy, doing the majority of his own high octane stunts, beating people up in all manner of ways and all doing it for the majority of the time topless………yes I said topless! Oh and did I mention the part about him covered in oil? Then this film is most definitely for you. Not to be taken too seriously just sit back and enjoy a great action film.

Ok, thinking this would be a good film to watch without knowing bugger all about it may have a been a good idea........Wrong! Even trying to convince the missus that it could be good because Luc Besson's name appeared a couple of time in the credits....Wrong! The word 'denial' comes to mind - when I really wanted to enjoy this film, about half way through I had to submit and admit it was bad. Special effects were on it. Acting, plot, accents, fighting ...unfortunately were not. In short, it was shizer. (Have just removed #2 from the list!)

What a pile of rubbish. Anyone over the age of 15 who believes this a good film should be ashamed of themselves. I had to laugh at the soundbite from Loaded magazine which is on the front cover of the DVD box - 'The film XXX wishes it was'....???? Dear god, this film made XXX look like friggin Lawrence of Arabia! Very, very bad actors and an extremely poor script. Films like this only work if the balance is right between reality and make believe, otherwise it should just be a straightout comedy. A confused mess.

This was agreat film, it had excitement and a good story line to go with it, cant wait to see the sequel.

I'm over 15 (41) and I watched this film because I had nothing else to do. I thoroughly enjoyed it - from start to finish it was full of breathtaking action and martial arts (some of which were so over the top they were funny!) and I can't wait to watch Transporter 2.

It's probably fair to say that this IS mindless, predictable fare. However, if you want to sit down, switch off and enjoy a great adventure, this is your movie. I loved every heart-thumping moment. Cooler than Miami Vice, with a top sound-track to boot.

Pure unrealistic action and fight scenes, however very satisfying to watch. A good bit of escapism provided you aren't somebody that watches films saying 'That could never happen'. High speed car chases hand to hand fighting and gun fighting what more can you ask for?

This a is a film that I have wanted to watch for a long time but there has always been something else to watch. So took the plunge and wow i was impressed and wished i had picked it up sooner. From the start it was pacy with an amazing car chase sequence and some very impressive choreographed fight scenes. Ok so it might seem unrealistic but it was fun. Was a little disappointed with the end but this is a popcorn action flick in witch, you go into loose yrself for 2 hrs and from that point it worked. Recommended

Well, I considered giving this film 1 star, but I quite like Jason Stathams other films so i've been a little kinder!..This Film was really bad! As other reviewers have said; I was watching the film really trying my best to enjoy it, but the really poor acting and accents, and Very dodgy action sequences and the overall thin plot really made this Film one of the worse films i've seen in ages!....I Think i will still watch The Transporter 2 in the hope that Jason Stathem shines a bit more and that the plot is a little thicker...but I wont hold my breath!

This is not a cult film, a gritty experiment or remarkable in anyway. It is quote frankly rubbish, badly cut, badly acted and less enjoyable than a violent, wet sneeze when you don't have a tissue. Save yourself the trouble and just site quietly on your own for 94 minutes rather than renting this.

I did not like this fillm, I thought there was way to much hand to hand combat in it, also I didn't like how after about 2 fight scenes you realised the transporter couldn't be beaten because then it made the last couple of fight scenes boring to watch because you knew what the out come would be. Also I didn't like the lack of comedy in it and I also found the plot confusing.

A friend of mine said this was his favourite film............ I may have to re-assess our friendship. I suspect it's because he thinks the hero is awesomely handsome? Thin plot, even thinner acting, not much dialogue, strangely friendly French cop ( how unusual is that?) , lots of bangs and crashes, and bullets and bazookas whizzing..... not one of which ever comes near our hero and heroine. Also completely improbable but very entertaining kickboxing fights in which one man outkicks a seemingly endless supply of villains

there was a problem with the disc and would need to be looked at it before sending this dvd to others.

If you like driving scenes and fighting scenes this is for you. The fighting is great. Statham is a real expert and the scenes don't need editing as much. The fighting is beleivable. Likeable bad guy who is really a good guy at heart.

An absolutely brilliant friday/saturday night film.i haven't enjoyed like this in a long while.If you watch alot of films then you can find the plots become very similar (even from different directors)this was a breath of freash air.

This film is simply ludicrous; it’s ridiculous beyond belief, unless you can believe that a man can land his car on a moving car transporter, between two other cars!! And then take on up to a dozen trained fighters barehanded, even though some had iron bars?? Don’t watch if you’ve got an IQ higher than 50. I’ve been told the second one is even worse.

Well this is nothing stunning and nothing new to the gerne but this is an ok cool film to watch to pass a little time. A good mix of stunts, fights and explosions without a great plot, but there rarely is in most action films. A good car chase at the start sets the pace for the film as good as the Ronin or Bourne identity car chases. The fights are ok, a good bit of martial arts used but they feel over staged to me. Overall not great but far worse out there!

This is complete and utter rubbish. The female lead is so unconvincing you are more likely to believe Pamela Anderson's not been enhanced. How on earth this warranted a sequel I will never know. If you watch this you will need a serious amount of alcohol!

I watched this on recommendation from my son. I can barely remember it now a few weeks later except that it had a few reasonable car chases. The main character hardly interested me and that is unforgiveable!

I don't normally bother reviewing films, but in this case I will make an exception. If I can save just one person suffering like I did, then my membership fee to this site will have been money well spent! Do yourself a favour, avoid like the plague unless you have a brain the size if a pea. Zero plot, rubbish acting, waste of time & money, I never even made it to the end of the 'film'.

'THE TRANSPORTER' is a very good action movie in the best tradition of Bond.JASON STATHAM is excellent as former special forces operative turned transporter Frank Martin.The supporting cast too are obviously enjoying themselves and the locations are on a par with the best of 007.Set in France,its maybe no surprise that this film is exec-produced by TAXI scribe LUC BESSON.

We did enjoy this film - I'm lookng forward to seeing Transporter 2 to see if they can top it! Maybe a little predictable but enjoyable none the less.

Didn't really know what to expect, bought the The Transporter/Transporter 2 in a double pack from HMV for £4 just cause the trailers looked quite good. Within minutes the action is unfolded and is non stop through the entire film, the only problem i have is the quite whispy story line. It wasn't fantastic, let's say, but it was alright for just a little light-hearted fun!

this is like all the least believable bits of James Bond and 24 all in one film - when they are just part of a film its OK but when the whole film is like that - as this one is - its too much.

If you like action films then this is one to watch. Actually the triology is great and I enjoyed every one of the films. They are quite cheesy in parts but hey... you have to expect a bit of cheese but it all adds to the fun.

The movie has lots of great action sequences but its let down by the weak plot that has obvious twists, and Jason Stathams's poor attempts at an american accent! Decent enough film if you just want good fight and driving sequences and not looking for anything too serious!

Man delivers stuff in the South of France, no questions asked, friends with Police Detective, meets pretty Chinese lady who was his 'cargo', gets crossed by George Michael, wants revenge. Brainless action film with the whispering Jason Statham whose accent really is something to behold. Sort of a Cockney playing an American playing a Londoner. The action is fast, fun & far-fetched, Statham seems in his element here & it's enjoyable if you don't take it seriously. Not sure how the truck kept it's speed when they were fighting though?

Statham is hot and sexy. He can carry me away anytime. I loved this action packed film, I was breathless by the end of it. OK a bit over the top and totally unbelievable but I loved every minute of it! Absolutely FAB!

A friend of mine told me that he didn't think Jason Statham was a good actor at all but I was totally smitten. A hard man with a heart, car chases, some clever cat and mouse stuff and I loved it! Can't wait to see if 2 and 3 are as good.

It was either watch this film or have my teeth pulled, the film won......just. Shoot 'em up blurb with corny acting and dire plot.

I had high hopes for this movie, Luc Besson, Jason Statham and all that. It was PAP. Fight scenes were abissmal and the fight seen in oil was .... bad. First time I have fast forwarded through scenes in a movie. Found some parts laughable. I Thought XXX was bad, this was worse.

Maybe its me I don't know, but did not enjoy at all.

Hokum.. Alright as an actioner though, I personally, believe Jason thingy is overated as a babe magnet. Slap head.....Better than watching terrestial TV.

did not enjoy this at all, jason s attempt at an american accent was pathetic and i found the acting really wooden, He was much better playing turkish in snatch.

Awesome fight scenes! Great movie to watch if u'r a fan of action films. great cars like the bmw which has got an ignition pin, if not entered the car won't move, number plates change with a press of a button.

Fast paced action thriller. Statham is effective as a former special forces man working as an unprincipled, ask no questions courier who suddenly discovers a conscience when a 'package' gets under his skin.

Entertaining, enjoyable if less than credible movie - well worth watching if you're prepared to suspend disbelief!

Just great action all the way. Great martial arts and good story.

I watched the second one first before seeing this one. Altough over the top in places keep it in context sit down and just watch a good action film.

We thought the film was really great, lots of action. Have watched it again on Sky. Also told loads of people to watch the film. They have also said it was a great film to watch. They have also told their friends to watch it as well.

A really great film.

Sitting down to watch this file i had heard so much about. It starts with a fantastic tyre screaching car case. this after some inital tense momemts whereby the "Transport" lays down his ground rules for the job. the chase is then on. one job done its time to move to another, howver the transporter is pursued by the ever so cunning detective, whos always on the the tail.
The setting in the picturesq small village helps bring out th driectors intention that this is a calm small town area.
The plot is fast and the action intense - the fight scenes are fast and furious. The transporter is suddenly entered into an area he must get the upper hand in as he bends the rules to get the package delivered.

Frank Martin (Statham) is hired to take a package to its destination. The package turns out to be Lai (Qi) who is wanted dead by the gangsters who are due to receive her. Frank complicates his life by opening the ‘package’ and doing his best to help Lai. I watched this film but I really have no idea what happened in it. I think there’s some people smuggling plot but how it connects to any of these people is tenuous in the extreme. This is but the smallest problem with The Transporter. The biggest is that it is as boring as all hell. Yuen Kwai began his life in the arts as a member of the Seven Little Fortunes, at the same time as Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao and went on to be one of Hong Kong’s leading action directors. This being the case it is deeply distressing that even the action scenes of The Transporter could barely stifle my yawns. To give credit where it’s due Statham does most of his own stunts and he’s not too shabby, though his bulk means he lacks the speed to carry off any really spectacular choreography and there is one pretty cool fight wherein Staham is covered in oil (the most homoerotic moment in a film that fair drips with them). The rest is a total trainwreck. Most painful are the dialogue scenes between Statham, who is yet to master the art of speaking and betraying any emotion all at once, and Qi whose heavily accented English is a real challenge to understand and not very easy on the ear. The performances are all utterly laughable, Matt Schulze’s scenery chomping Wall Street is staggeringly unthreatening and yet he plays him turned up to 11 like a bond villain and Statham could make a plank look animated. Qi may keep a section of the audience watching, she is so beautiful that people with a weak heart probably shouldn’t look at her but she’s better than this character, than this film. I wish I could end this review with some snappy line but frankly I’d be wasting jokes on a movie that doesn’t deserve them, Jesus I’m bored just writing about it.

If you're looking for a brainless action movie with inventive fight scenes and a typically ludicrous plot you've come to the right place. This is an enjoyable enough way to spend 90 mins if you like cheesy action films (and I do) however don't expect the next Usual Suspects.

Bad script, bad storyline, bad acting, bad accents - bad movie.

Ex-Special Forces operator Frank Martin lives what seems to be a quiet life along the French Mediterranean, hiring himself out as a mercenary 'transporter' who moves goods - human or otherwise - from one place to another. No questions asked.

Carrying out mysterious and sometimes dangerous tasks in his tricked-out BMW, Martin finds his latest assignment could well be his last after his package is revealed to be a beautiful woman (Shu Qi) at the centre of a human trafficking ring...

You can see or feel the Luc Beeson influence in this film (Leon)and to start with looks like we're going to have a very similar and cracking film, with the main character super cool and in a deadly job. They also (as in Leon) both end up finding themselves looking after someone they really dont want to. That's where the similarities of that classic film end.

After that, even with some good actions sequences, this film just some how doesnt manage to grab you like Leon does.

Had the potential of being one to buy for my collection, but as the film went on the rating in my head dropped. Recommend a watch, but it's no classic. Shame really!
